Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

19 Oct

Jane the Virgin returned this week much to my teary eyed joy and this cast continues to deliver on the social media behind the scenes front. Plus we have a week of super stylish moments including Insta postcards from Cannes, costume secrets and more.

Kicking off again with Gil and George because I really want to see Oh, Hello again and because the guest stars keep on coming. Care Delevingne (just know I’m doing the Reese voice) is essentially wearing lounge wear including boob slippers, which actually feels entirely appropriate for this show.

From the Jane the Virgin season 3 premiere and what the cast looks like all aged up. Just let it be known that this was the part of the episode where I went from welling up, to single tear and quickly followed by double eye sobbing. This show.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

29 Jul

After Comic-Con it has been a pretty quiet on the red carpet front so it is a convention of a political kind that dominates “Out of the Box” this week and we’ll be taking a look at the celebrities who spoke at the DNC in Philadelphia. Angela BassettAngela Bassett working it on Day 3 wearing a sophisticated blue Karen Millen that wouldn’t look out of place on The Good Wife or Scandal; setting the right glam to serious tone. Lena Dunham and America FerreraThis is how you coordinate without looking matchy matchy and Lena Dunham’s Gabriela Hearst off the shoulder white frock is a style best and America Ferrara in a black and white Black Halo gown adds an extra punch with colorful pumps.Sarah SilvermanWhen asked to stretch things out before introducing Paul Simon (and after giving a great speech) Sarah Silverman worked the camera giving the actual Look of the Week while Al Franken went peak dad on the joke front while they waited for Simon. Silverman also kept things classic and serious with her choice of ensemble.Elizabeth BanksFrom the Day 2 walk through and I love everything about this shot of Elizabeth Banks and her fabulous paisley number.Elizabeth Banks DNCAnd for the actual thing Elizabeth Banks took a slightly more fun dress approach than some of the other celebrity speakers in a very cute Elie Saab, which works with the celeb filled and Pitch Perfect inspired “Fight Song” video that Banks helped conceive and introduced at the DNC. Elle Amanda StenbergSwitching out from the DNC to magazine covers and September issues are coming! UK Elle is taking this opportunity to give themselves a makeover with a re-design and September is the perfect time for this as it always strikes me as the month for new beginnings. All four covers go in close and look great, but it is Amandla Stenberg’s that really stood out and I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy.

Masters of Sex 3.07 “Monkey Business” Review: Apeman

24 Aug

The vast number of years Masters of Sex has covered over a three season period and particularly this season does not render it immune from cyclical plot points and “Monkey Business” goes a long way in demonstrating how patchy this season has been. It is disappointing that despite how far these characters have come, they are still falling into certain traps.

Bill is showing off his unpleasant side as he still can’t fathom why his son is so distant (don’t befriend the kid who beat him up for starters) and he unleashes his controlling side all in the guise of helping broken men (and apes) like himself. The gorilla that was introduced at the end of last week’s episode comes into focus this week as Bill and Virginia are asked to help with Gil’s mating issues. What goes from being a flight of fancy and nothing more than a whim for Bill becomes a huge metaphor for all the suffering dudes on this show, but with a strong whiff of manipulation revealing Bill’s competitive and jealous streak.

Whereas Libby Masters, forever on the periphery has been languishing in her own illusions and it is hard to see quite how she will break free without ever leaving Bill. One step towards freedom does take place this week as she acknowledges just how terrible her personal life is; now if she can move forward rather than backsliding as we have seen her do in previous seasons.

Masters of Sex 3.07 Virgina and BillInitially Virginia is the one who champions the gorilla project with Bill scoffing at how ridiculous it is. They later switch positions with Bill linking his own performance problems to both the impotent (and human) Keith to gorilla Gil. With Gil it is all about point scoring and a good anecdote to tell Newsweek magazine if they are successful. Human patient cases can’t be spoken in any detail due to confidentiality and the one which leads to the interview is pure fiction. Isabella and Al were papped on the way out of the clinic and so they have spun this into a good PR story for their broken relationship, but they can use the exposure to showcase their real triumphs. Virginia appeals to Bill’s ego by pointing out how he has a soft spot for “suffering males” and this is a point which Bill uses on her later on by reiterating how much she helped him.

While it could be said that Virginia uses manipulation to get Bill on board the ape plan, Bill certainly runs with it when Dan comes calling with plans for a night out. At this point Bill has no idea Virginia and Dan are sleeping together, but that doesn’t stop him exerting his power in preventing Virginia from going by insisting on the gorilla shenanigans. It would have probably made more sense for his jealousy to kick in if he was aware of their hooking up and instead this just comes across as dick measuring pettiness.

One awkward scene follows another as Virginia ends up flashing her boobs to get Gil in the mood with Bill offering directions out of Gil’s sight. It is all just a little uncomfortable although I should point out that we are not privy to what Gil and Bill can see; the use of nudity on Masters of Sex never feels gratuitous. They are successful in getting Gil to mate, but the victory is hollow for Virginia and she sees it as no more than a fluke. Bill wants to tell all and at dinner he teases their ‘ape’ triumph and instead references the celebrity couple lie that led to this interview in the first place. It is disappointing to see him play with Virginia in this way and even though he is focusing on the broken people they have helped he is so narrow sighted when it comes to those he is closest to.

It is no surprise Virginia turns back to Charming Dan after this dinner and despite Bill’s assertion last week that certain people are slipping away I don’t think he realizes just how isolated he might become; his son despises him, Libby is starting to come to terms with her situation and Virginia has a new ape man.

Masters of Sex 3.07 Dan and VirginiaI really wish I could say this is Josh Charles wearing a mohair sweater and not a gorilla suit.

The man who spoke about love in such a powerful and meaningful way is still there and Bill does want to help the broken and in need; however he is also a controlling asshole who likes to bask in his success. It is a credit to Michael Sheen’s exceptional performance that he is still so watchable and sympathetic even when the story doesn’t support this.

Impotence has affected several characters on Masters of Sex with Lester suffering from the condition last season after a very bad break up from Jane. During the several time jumps Lester has got back together with his former gf and had children with her; it was only after overhearing Virginia and Bill discussing her husband that Jane found out about his issue.

#In a roundabout way the original ‘important work’ ethos of the study is utilized to make Lester see why Jane wants to be the surrogate in helping her friend and while I love spending time with these characters (especially with Jane in signature yellow) it all comes across as slightly tenuous.

Meanwhile, Tessa is chatting to Dan about her mother’s extracurricular activities with Bill while never revealing who she is. That is until Virginia introduces them and causes Dan to squint in confusion. Does her believe her more now he knows she most likely has insider info or does he read their interactions as spiteful lies? When really it is a mixture of the two.

Every week I have been lamenting about the lack of Betty besides her fabulous costuming and amazing advice; the return of Helen prompts her own subplot and yet this is also on the dissatisfying scale because it all revolves around getting pregnant. Seeing Annaleigh Ashford and Sarah Silverman bouncing off each other is always a treat, but I wish there was a way to feature them without resorting to biological clocks. We already know Betty can’t have children so it is Helen with all the bunny infested dreams and how do you find a surrogate in the 1960s? Tap up Dr Austin Langham that’s how.

The fabulous Betty costuming continues in her late night adventure with paisley prints and silk head band (which is making me reach for this one again) coupled with Helen’s leopard print delight.

Masters of Sex 3.07 Betty and HelenBetty did also get to hold my favorite props from “Monkey Business” (no not the artificial insemination equipment) and old magazines whether mock ups or real hold an instant appeal to this magazine aficionado.

First up Betty’s face while showing the Isabella Ricci Newsweek article (and accompanying fake Lord Harry ad which made an appearance in season 1 – would a company really use the same copy work for 10 years?)

Masters of Sex 3.07 NewsweekAnd then I fell down a Google image black hole looking at Photoplay covers and this plays right into my recent You Must Remember This inspired interest in 1960s (and all those earlier decades) Hollywood.

Masters of Sex 3.07 Photoplay magazineThis season is far from a disaster and there is still plenty to enjoy as the performances are always solid even if the storytelling has been on the bumpy side. They just need to get out of some of the character ruts and show progress beyond the work of Masters and Johnson.

Alice + Olivia NYFW Wish List and Style Highs

17 Feb

Taking a break from Fantasy Costuming various shows with a brand that has appeared on New Girl, The Mindy ProjectParks and Recreation and How to Get Away with Murder; Alice + Olivia has the cutest sweaters. This collection was about a lot more than knitwear with designer Stacey Bendet striking a balance between late 60s/early 70s boho and rocker; a strong theme for this NYFW and one discussed yesterday with our Red Valentino Sally Draper Fantasy Costuming.

This post is a mixture of looks from the show and the stars in attendance (some are wearing items available from Alice + Olivia at the moment). Okay there might be some suggestions of what shows some of the pieces should appear on/who should wear them; it is hard to resist the urge to Fantasy Costume.

First up Fall 2015 items to covet:

Alice + OliviaIf you are a regular TV Ate My Wardrobe reader you will know by now that I have very strong feelings about lady tuxes and the current menswear trend. So it might not be too surprising that this simple and sophisticated take on this theme is top of the list. Keri Russell sometimes leans towards this style on the red carpet and even though it is not vintage the pants have a hint of wide legged Elizabeth Jennings about them.

Below are several more outfits from the collection to drool over with pattern and texture reigning supreme – click on the image for a closer look. Jenny Slate will be glad to see the turtleneck is making big waves this NYFW and the first dress in the collection below has a hint of Joan Watson about it.

And now for a few looks from those at the show.

Kate NashSinger Kate Nash went for bold color and pattern in a stunning multicolored ‘Bryn’ skirt pairing it with a very cute zebra sweater.

Sarah Silverman A&OSarah Silverman put a bird on it and makeup artist Tina Turnbow shared this beautiful close up getting ready shot.

Abbi and Ilana at A+OHopefully Ilana Glazer will fare better in white than when her Broad City character last wore something similar to this. Abbi Jacobson’s embellished bird jacket is incredible and she adds an extra pop of color with blue stilettos.

Ella CatliffFashion blogger and model Ella Catliff beats the New York cold with stylish layering including the ‘Shih’ collarless coat and pairing tights with these wedges means no freezing toes in the name of fashion.

SNL 40th Anniversary Celebration Red Carpet Style Highs

16 Feb

Last night Saturday Night Live celebrated 40 years with a star packed 3 hour show with plenty of familiar faces on stage and in the Studio 8H audience. A very cold red carpet took place prior to the performance with plenty of smiles through the freezing temps and below are some of our favorite looks.

Maya and KristenStarting off with two SNL greats in the evening’s black classic trend with Maya Rudolph in a tuxedo inspired jumpsuit, which I am definitely into. The pockets and bold red lipstick get instant style points. Kristen Wiig looks super hot in a plunging Max Azria Atelier gown.

Olivia WildeAfter last weekend’s lady tux high Olivia Wilde steps it up a notch combining lady tux with cape in a stunning H&M Conscious Commerce Collection ensemble that I need in my life.

Emma Stone and Larry DavidSequin Christina Dior for Emma Stone with just as sparkly shoes and this is a slight break from the norm hand on hip red carpet pose with Larry David.

Glenn CloseNot really sure what is happening in this photo other than something magical. Glenn Close is everything.

Melissa McCarthyBlack could be seen as somber particularly for an evening celebrating comedy; thankfully there are plenty of ways to prevent this turning into a bleak event including sequins and Melissa McCarthy’s mixed fabrics look is fantastic.

Debbie HarryDebbie Harry shows how to work layers and she’s probably not freezing like most the attendees in this fantastic ensemble. She has no time to deal with your shit.

Jane KrakowskiJenna Maroney would be busting out a song on the red carpet to make sure all eyes are on her, Jane Krakowski does this by wearing a sexy plunging gown. Red nail polish and an amazing bracelet add those extra pow points. So excited for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Dakota JohnsonA break from the big trend of the night and Dakota Johnson does the super glitzy sparkles in a Sonia Rykiel mini dress and while clutching hold of her coat kind of looks a bit sloppy/like she skinned a stuffed toy on the way over, the brr cold weather is reason enough to keep something like this close by. As with her Golden Globes Chanel this is another winning shimmery outfit.

Sarah SilvermanPosing in Posen and Sarah Silverman does smokey eye glam with aplomb.

Lucy LiuMore sparkle embellishments and Lucy Liu’s gown might have worked better in a darker shade like midnight blue. It is still super pretty and stands out from the sea of black attire.

Kerry WashingtonKerry Washington’s Adam Lippes blazer dress is Olivia Pope with a twist and feels like a throwback with the peek-a-boo bra.

Joanna Newson and Andy SambergAndy Samberg’s teal tuxedo jacket mixes up the usual black jacket dude stylings, but it is wife Joanna Newsom’s floral frock that stands out.

Kate McKinnon, Aidy BryantRounding things off with some of the current cast; Taran Killam and Kenan Thompson are doing the classic tux/suit thing, Aidy Bryant adds a metallic edge to her polka dot dress and Kate McKinnon is another all black classic look.

Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen Join the Guilty Remnant

1 Nov

This isn’t Leftovers casting news for season 2 of and yet Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen make pretty convincing members of the Guilty Remnant for Halloween. Okay it’s not the hardest costume to make – white clothes, Sharpie, paper, cigarettes and a whole lot of soul sucking platitudes- but I think Patti would be impressed with their getup and disdainful looks. The glasses and disheveled hair really ties the whole thing together and so far this is my favorite celeb Halloween attire so far (Taylor’s Pegacorn is a close second).

Best of the Emmy Red Carpet 2014: Metallics, Nudes and Everything Else

26 Aug

Completing the trilogy of Emmy red carpet posts and while there are unifying themes for the first two parts (black/white and bold color) this is a best of the rest with sparkly silver delights, capes and a variety of lengths just to mix it up.

Christine BaranskiThere’s a reason why this post on Diane Lockhart’s style is the most viewed on TV Ate My Wardrobe and Christine Baranski’s navy and caped (!) gown is giving me chills. I am in awe of this magnificent woman. During the ceremony when Josh Charles didn’t win she leaned forward and gave his shoulder a squeeze; making me sad all over again that there will be no more whiskey drinking or dancing on screen.

Amy PoehlerLooking like an Art Deco dream is Amy Poehler in Theia and while she might never receive an Emmy for Parks and Rec (come on guys you have one more chance, ditto Jon Hamm) this is a winner.

Hayden+Panettiere+Arrivals+66th+Annual+Primetime+eNZynLTBooPlKeeping on the silver streak is Hayden Panettiere in a plunging fitted sequined chiffon Lorena Sarbu gown and the silhouette here is incredible. Sometimes the best red carpet shots are the unposed kind like this one.

Kiernan Shipka emmysThe color is maybe a bit too muted, however Kiernan Shipka continues her excellent sartorial choices with a tea-length Antonio Berardi dress and the sash beading is what really tips this into sublime territory. During the red carpet I found a photo of Shipka from the 2010 Emmys giving me a whole lot of protective feelings about what Shipka is going to do next and how we’ve watched her grow up during her time on Mad Men.

Jessica WilliamsA few days ago Jessica Williams gave a sneak peek of her gold embellished knee length Angela Dean dress on Instagram and it looked fantastic paired with Nike sneakers and even better on the red carpet.

Sarah SilvermanE! are not satisfied with just mani-cam, GlamCam 360, shoe cam so this year they decided to take a more invasive look with clutch cam to showcase the bags and their contents. While most just  had their phones, Sarah Silverman showed off her contents including her vape pen (Ilana approves) taking over the role of Elisabeth Moss mischief maker. Silverman also ditched her shoes when she went dashing up to collect her Emmy – a smart move – and she looks incredible in plunging Marni. She called Michael Sheen “Mr Fancy Pants Sheen” which is also adorable.

Allison WilliamsGoing full prom is Allison Williams in a very Allison Williams looking Giambattista Valli Couture gown. I like it and especially the dash of yellow.

Lucy LiuLast year nude gowns dominated and I’m glad the 2014 Emmys weren’t a repeat of this trend, however Lucy Liu wears this ethereal color well in a beautiful Zac Posen draped gown.

Masters of Sex 2.06 “Blackbird” Review: “Lilantha”

18 Aug

Intimacy comes in a variety of ways far beyond the study at the center of Masters of Sex and in “Blackbird” we see multiple characters wrestling with the truth behind certain relationships. This takes place in both a personal and professional setting as the two overlap in several cases; new lows are hit and life changing acknowledgements are proclaimed. Change is coming and there is of course resistance, particularly when there are different agendas at play. While Bill claims he will let the facts speak for themselves, when his own personal space is penetrated by the press he pushes back in the most abhorrent way and he’s not the only one who goes to extreme lengths this week.*

*While watching this episode and seeing the depiction of racial tension in 1950s St. Louis, Missouri it is incredibly bleak spotting similarities and the lack of progress with what is happening right now in 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri.

Masters of Sex 2.06 LilanthaI’ve talked a lot about Virginia and Lillian as the best female friendship on television and “Blackbird” cements this assertion (and I’m pretty sure I’m going to end up crying while I type this). Lillian references Virginia’s inability to take no for an answer – I realized while watching this that there is a slightly Leslie Knope steamroller like quality to Virginia – and by the end of the episode Virginia has learned that there is a point where you stop pushing someone. Lillian decides to end her treatment, which is met with resistance by Virginia as she believes there is still plenty to fight for. At this point Lillian is performing this fighter charade for Virginia “I can’t do this for you. I tried, but I’m done” (aaaaand the screen just went blurry as I typed that).

Between Lillian and Bill, Virginia has opened herself up emotionally in a way that she can’t quite comprehend and she tearfully explains to Bill that she never lets anyone in the way she has done with Lillian emphasizing “She knows me.” Virginia doesn’t do close emotional relationships (remember she locked up her heart a long time ago) and Bill points out that the reason Virginia didn’t see it coming is because Lillian is a woman. Yes we have seen Virginia with other female friends, well Jane, but none this intimate. They are of course complete opposites and yet they provide that something the other has been missing.

Like Virginia, Lillian has erected walls and she tells Virginia over wine that she has missed out on being loved. Lillian tells a story of her cotillion, the cruel name she was called – giraffe as she was both tall and spotty – and how a little piece of us is the girl we were at 13 (which I kind of agree with). So while Lillian hasn’t experienced romantic love, this here on this sofa and later when Virginia tucks her in bed is love. Lillian is also the only one who can get Virginia to accept that Bill loves her, even if this comes with a feigned shocked expression followed by eye acknowledgement. If this episode was just these two women sitting on the sofa drinking and telling stories I would be more than happy. Alas, the end is here and Virginia puts Lillian to bed in the same way she does her children; by drawing words on her forehead. What really slays me in this scene is Virginia telling Lillian she sees “constellations in these freckles” including the previously undiscovered “Lilantha” a “Warrior princess, strong and brave” and if I wasn’t already a wreck then this line would tip me over the edge “But she knew who she was. And that is why she burns so brightly, you can always spot her in the sky.”

Earlier Virginia has told Lillian she will take care of the letter to her family and that she will ensure that her body goes to science so she can maybe help with the cause she has spent so long on beyond her death. Virginia returns to Lillian’s house to pick up the letter and finds her in bed struggling to breathe after she has taken a bottle of sleeping pills. Virginia’s natural reaction is to call 911 and halfway through the call as she looks at her friend she hangs up, recognizing this isn’t her fight. Instead she lies down next to Lillian and makes sure she isn’t alone in her final moments.

Masters of Sex 2.06 Bill and VirginiaWhen Bill and Virginia have sex they don’t kiss, if they did then they might have to admit to themselves and each other that there is something here that goes far beyond research. This point is emphasized in the opening scene and while it might seem like a bit too on the nose for them to reference this in such an overt way, I’m glad they did as I haven’t actually noticed before that they don’t kiss (I’m not sure if this makes me horribly unobservant or if my brain is filling in the gap). So when this moment takes place it’s not while they are sleeping together, instead it comes in at a point of vulnerability as Virginia is opening herself up rather than closing herself off. We don’t see anything beyond the kiss so it’s unclear if it leads to anything else, the way I read it is that it is just the kiss and nothing more.

This is a strong and effective scene; the “I know you” and everything that comes before and after really underlines everything this relationship is about. One aspect that works incredibly well is how the camera pushes in so slowly starting at a distance and ending in a close up. It’s like we are Bill and Lillian sneaking past Virginia’s carefully constructed walls.

The red of Virginia’s blouse in this scene is in contrast to the blue in her later scenes with Lillian; one suggests passion while the other is nurturing and both represent the two sides of Virginia we see in her relationships with these two characters.

Masters of Sex 2.06 MorganBill’s being all Mr Sensitive with Virginia, however when things get a little too personal with the story reporter Morgan Hogue is writing he ends up in a scenario he has never found himself in. Morgan wants to talk about Bill’s past and his recent estrangement from the white medical community; this is not the angle Bill wants as it reveals far too much about whom he is and is a narrative he finds uncomfortable. To kill the story Bill threatens the editor of this newspaper with made up research findings that will paint black people in a negative light. It’s repugnant and so unlike the Bill we have seen admonishing Libby for her recent racist actions. Bill is for what it is worth disgusted at himself for stooping to this tactic telling Hendricks that he has never misrepresented his work like this. Hendricks refers to Bill’s methods as coming from a desperate place, but it still leaves a nasty taste behind and Hendricks fires him as this pairing is not going to bring the change that either of them is striving for; Bill needs to go out on his own as Hendricks did.

Masters of Sex 2.06 LibbyThese last few weeks I have been pretty much watching Libby scenes through my fingers as she continues her descent into obsession and paranoia going from watching Coral and Robert to getting a police check on Robert. Banning Robert from picking Coral up leads to following them to their home and Robert confronts Libby as she’s figuring out where Coral lives. Robert tells Libby that he’s Coral’s brother (they haven’t different surnames) revealing Coral’s ruse for getting under Libby’s skin (which Libby deserved in that moment). Libby has cut her leg, something Robert notices and asks if he can help her. Libby accepts this aid for a moment and then things get too personal for her and she overreacts by firing Coral and fleeing the scene. Later she caresses that cut and smokes in the darkness; this act of care and intimacy has stirred something in Libby. Part of her obsession with Coral and Robert is from this factor of closeness that is absent in her own relationship and while this doesn’t excuse Libby behavior and prejudice, it goes some of the way to explain her actions. I worry they have pushed Libby too far into this corner and as I mentioned last week it comes across as an attempt to make Libby unlikeable so as an audience we feel less sympathy for her and her loveless marriage.

Masters of Sex 2.06 awkward double dateWhile I’m on the subject of loveless marriages “Care is what you have for a stray dog you find in the road. Love is what you have with someone you share your bed with.” These words by Gene to Betty suggest that this relationship has come to an end as Gene finds out the biggest secret Betty has been keeping. Gene’s friend Al is beyond clueless as even though he witnessed the kiss between Helen and Betty last week he doesn’t connect that this is romantic as his only experience of lesbians is a stereotype; neither Betty or Helen look like this so they can’t possibly be. This also goes back to what Betty said about them not being accepted by this community as they don’t fit this description. Gene figures it out and while he thought Betty’s outburst was because she was into Al – he tells a sad story about what it’s been like to double date with Al in the past – when Al mentions the kiss he instantly knows who Betty’s heart belongs to. Betty thinks that she can make it work with both Helen and Gene as they have money now and “money means options.” They already live an unconventional life and they can maintain afternoon hookups as long as Helen is willing to go along with this. Helen isn’t content with being the mistress in this set up and plays Betty at her game with an impromptu proposal to Al.

Masters of Sex 2.06 Betty and GeneWhile Betty is okay with performing this charade and she really does care for Gene as she suggests, it’s not enough. For Gene he could get passed the kids lie and he doesn’t want to adopt, he tells Betty “You’re enough.” The problem is that Gene is not enough for Betty and he never will be. An unconventional set up yes, but one that isn’t fair to anyone involved. Helen pushed her point with the Al proposal and Gene confrontation with Betty about truth shows that he can’t play this game. Ultimately I don’t think Betty can either and while she has got used to comfortable living and an incredible wardrobe she owes it to Gene, Helen , Al and herself to own her truth.

Masters of Sex 2.06 BettyAs I’m on the subject of Betty frocks here is another incredible one. There is nothing quiet or subdued about either Betty or Helen’s clothing choices. They clash at times in both color and pattern as they clash in their methods of continuing their relationship. Even their underwear is in stark contrast as Betty wears the white of innocence and Helen’s strapless basque is in super sexy black. Now that Betty is no longer getting ‘fertility’ treatments from Bill this story is now rather separate to the overall narrative and I wonder how they will converge again in the future. Sarah Silverman has been a terrific addition and I hope we get to see more of this relationship as we move forward.

This episode marks the halfway point of season 2 and it has an end of chapter like feel to it as Bill realizes that he can no longer work in a hospital if he wants to continue his work. Other characters hit low points (Libby I’m looking at you), relationships hit their natural breaking point as secrets are revealed and walls are broken down exposing a whole new set of raw emotions. Bill discovers at the end of the episode that maybe he doesn’t know Virginia as well as the thought he did as when he turns to her first after yet another sacking he finds her ‘beau’ on the doorstep. This is a guy Virginia has been dating for a couple of months and like Bill we are only just finding out about this relationship. Bill stumbles away having what appears to be a panic attack and the Virginia/Bill merry-go-round continues to spin.
