Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

15 Mar

Welcome to this week’s installment of “Behind the Insta-Scenes” and we’ve got sartorial highs, set shenanigans and some very cute animals to share with you.

Someone needs to make a movie with these three ladies as triplets. Tom Cullen has already come up with the tagline. Please and thank you.

When the Mr Robot dudes go away for SXSW the ladies get their puzzle on.

@latenightseth here I come!

A post shared by Lupita Nyong'o (@lupitanyongo) on

Lupita Nyong’o serving up every level of fashion BAMF and turning the backstage area of Late Night with Seth Meyers into her very own runway.

I love Aya Cash so much.

Not one, but three kittens! Thank you Brooklyn Nine-Nine for this furry treat.

And not to forget all the dog lovers – Constance Zimmer showing off this little cutie on the set of UnREAL. And now I’m wondering what manipulative role this puppy will be playing.

I love this woman and I don't care who knows!!!

A post shared by Shiri Appleby (@shiriappleby) on

UnREAL OTP.

By now you will probably know how much I love it when co-stars hangout off set and this is the perfect example of that. All the warm feelings

Also here for random encounters like this one with Chris Noth walking by the Girls set and getting accosted by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner (also understandable).

What's my hair gonna do tonight?!? @vinyl 9pm ET on @hbo

I haven’t caught any Vinyl yet, but I can see how incredible Bobby Canavale’s hair is and how much work it takes to get the look.

Another amazing Mindy Project costume moment and a really great spring romper from Moschino.

Ariana Grande did a superb job on SNL this week accidental swear and all. And now I have This is Not A Feminist Song” stuck in my head for at least another three more days.

Greg Williams has one of the best celebrity photography Instagram accounts and the access he gets at events like Letters Live lends to some very intimate moments; including this amazing shot of Gillian Anderson peaking from behind the curtain.

NYFW Fantasy Costuming: Diane von Furstenberg’s Strong 70s Aesthetic is Ideal for Vinyl

16 Feb

The Diane von Furstenberg show is always high on the most anticipated list in part because of the pre-ladysuit Alana Bloom costume stylings and because Furstenberg creates plenty of pieces that can be worn by women on television from an array of eras. This RTW Fall 2016 collection has a huge 70s influence – the iconic DVF wrap dress celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2014 – continuing the recent trend of delving back into my favorite style decade and running with it.

In somewhat perfect timing Vinyl started this week and it isn’t a leap when suggesting these garments are ideal for this show. Fabrics such as suede, leather, tweed and printed silk shirts aplenty make this super 1970s friendly with knee length, floor skimming and leg bearing in equal measure. So much brown, purple, sequins and pattern clashing with a mixture of boho and disco further add to the strong visual impact of the era when Diane von Furstenberg’s signature wrap dress first came onto the scene.

Here are a few of the standout pieces from this runway show that would look amazing on Olivia Wilde, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen and Juno Temple on Vinyl.DVF 2

DVF 14

DVF 3

DVF 12There is a slight hint of The Americans and Elizabeth Jennings, travel agent in some of the suede skirt/boots/silk shirts and the 80s didn’t become THE EIGHTIES until later in the decade (also Elizabeth is not one for fads).

For a look at those pieces plus so many more that are ideal for Vinyl click on the gallery below.

More fancy pants behind the scenes shenanigans with a relaxed edge at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Plus babies, celebrating the return of Agent Carter and some A+ 70s outfits.

Will Forte showed that his new half-shaved look wasn’t just a onetime TCA affair (his entire body is like this, yep everything) and gave Justin Theroux’s expressive eyebrows a workout of Leftovers proportions at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Award shows can all get a bit much for some. The Jane the Virgin table also featured heavily in reactions to the super adorable Jacob Tremblay. They are all of us.

Congrats to the winners.

You’re the Worst maybe lost out in their category, but Aya Cash did score high on #LadySuitWatch2016.

Worstie dudes also slaying in formal wear.

Critics’ Choice Awards #SquadGoals

A very super smiley Liv Tyler on her way to the awards and it is probably a very good thing that she didn’t have to lie down to avoid crease awkwardness.

This looks like the exact kind of thing Tom Haverford would dream up and the fact that it is very real makes me so happy.

Also to be filed under “things that seem too magical to be true” is Kroll Show originals Gil and George appearing on The Bachelor live show and Jenny Slate filming her reaction. Yep, I still miss Kroll Show, but I am thrilled that Gil and George are still out there in the world.

SO here for this.

More adorable babies and hitting that ‘cast members who still hang out after their show has finished’ sweet spot. Also Dave Annable wins best Instagram caption contest this week.

Single white femaling Peggy #AgentCarter

A post shared by Bridget Regan (@bridgetregan) on

Agent Carter is back and Bridget Regan goes full Peggy.

A smorgasbord of pattern clashing and bold color from the many outfit changes for Mindy Kaling on The Mindy Project. Even by this shows standards this is a lot for one day and it’s hard to pick a favorite; edging toward the floral sweater and pajamas with the dragonfly dress also wrestling for top place.

Oh I'm gonna need that back #JessicaJones

A post shared by Krysten Ritter (@therealkrystenritter) on

Jessica Jones has been renewed and I can’t see S2 Jessica wearing any other jeans than these ones.

While I’m on the subject of jeans – I am coveting these ones Gina Rodriguez is wearing hard and the whole 70s vibe of this outfit is ticking all the boxes.

Going full 1970s and the Vinyl costuming is part of the reason why I am looking forward to this show. Those glasses are everything.

Counting down to You’re the Worst, amazing red lipstick, flashbacks to The X-Files and more Mindy costuming treats as we round up the best of TV Instagram.

This is your less than one week countdown to the You’re the Worst season 2 premiere and I am so ready.

A post shared by Allan McLeod (@allanmcleod) on

Even on a Wednesday it is perfectly acceptable to sing Sunday Funday when new episodes of You’re the Worst are this close. Loving Aya Cash’s shorter ‘do.

Confession – I have been working away and travelling all week so I have not seen the latest Masters of Sex, but I can definitely say how much I love Betty’s ensemble and Helen’s red lipstick. They are all giving great face.

Elevator work.. #ElevatorSelfie #GoingUp #AllAboard #VMAs

A post shared by Mariska Hargitay (@therealmariskahargitay) on

If you have this many people in an elevator at an event (I suspect famous or not) then the obligatory group selfie is going to happen (see the upfronts). When Team Taylor is in attendance it is definitely going to be a thing and what I really like about this one is that it doesn’t look like a fourth or fifth attempt to perfection; it’s a little blurry and everyone is doing their own posing. Thanks Olivia Benson!

The Mindy pajama coveting continues switching from flamingos to cherries and now to plaid.

Mindy’s blouse closet is awash with signature bold color and print; so pleased Mindy Project costume designer Salvador Perez has been nominated for an Emmy this year.

Wish I could remember what we were doing. Any ideas?

A post shared by David Duchovny (@davidduchovny) on

Speaking of which… David Duchovny keeps digging up gems like these. Ah the baggy suits of the 90s quandary; why so baggy?

This is a pretty cool shot from the Arrow set.

#YasKween

Speaking of Broad City and here is a good gift to get anyone who is currently into the coloring trend. Even if they are not into it then you should still get this for someone.

Vinyl is high on my most anticipated list for cast, costume and story reasons. Mostly so I can yell KATRINE at Birgitte Hjort Sørensen again.

Dubsmash plus the Orange is the New Black ladies leads to this amazing dance party.
