Continuing our Emmy style rundown and this second bumper post gives great sparkle. Plus the many different interpretations of how to wear black and white on the red carpet.Getting 70s disco vibes from Constance Wu in J. Mendel and after Sarah Paulson’s Prada, this is my favorite look of the night.Judith fucking Light. Always amazing. No exceptions. Orange is the New Black was pretty much shutout this year, but Laverne Cox is giving statuette realness is Naeem Khan.Claire Danes might want to tone down the tan/bronzer, but her Schiaparelli super sparkly number is a stunner.Taraji P. Henson changed it all up for presenting and I think I like this look even more than the yellow dress. Sequins and that hairstyle continue the nod to the 70s.The Stranger Things kids are adorable and need to be protected at all costs. Also continuing the trend of dressing better than a lot of adults, particularly in the tux department (see also Jacob Tremblay). Millie Bobby Brown put a bird on it in Red Valentino and this is the perfect brand for her.A very romantic looking Zuhair Murad floral gown for Kristen Bell and this is giving me all the heart eyes.Another knockout choice from Yara Shahidi and a Clara Rotescu dress that also gave great twirl/floating style.Everything about Tracee Ellis in this pose and Ralph Lauren dress is incredibly regal. The Americans sadly didn’t win, but Holly Taylor combines great sparkle with white in custom Theia Couture. Rami Malek in a white Dior tux jacket is showing why he was on our most anticipated list.Rami’s not the only one crushing the white tux jacket look and Tituss Burgess also came with a strong shoe and bow tie game.A sheer frock I don’t hate! Sophie Turner delivers a miracle in Valentino. And even more sheer that I like! Julia Louis-Dreyfus gave a heart crushing speech as her dad passed away on Friday, which left me pretty much sobbing into my wine.Sequins really were the big style winner of the night and America Ferrera’s Jenny Packham frock is another evening high point.Kerry Washington is never boring on the red carpet and she’s wearing a show stopping Brandon Maxwell number coupled with hair that takes me back to Olivia Pope hanging out on a tropical beach.
After last week’s power dressing convention heavy “Look of the Week” we’re back on schedule with the TCA press tour dishing up the usual amount of cool/casual to slightly fancier looks. As this is the summer session it means there are plenty of floaty and floral numbers on display. Plus we’ve got a couple of other red carpet events including two TV spies infiltrating the White House.Rami Malek and Christian Slater are great and all, but it was a really smart idea to focus this year’s Mr Robot panel on the women of this show shining a spotlight on newbie Grace Gummer, Carly Chaikin, Portia Doubleday and Stephanie Corneliussen as they are currently the most interesting aspect of season 2.
At TCA there are often just sitting down shots so you don’t always get a good look at the whole outfit (but you do get to see the shoes) and as with talk shows it is better to pick something that looks good seated. Pretty much don’t go too short. All four women look great and I particularly like that they are all smiling/laughing as this is something we rarely get to see on Mr Robot. Now for the stand up shot which highlights the mix of outfits including collared/blazer highs – even with the sheer aspect Stephanie Corneliussen has my fave look of the quartet – and textured frocks. Basically I am so ready for a lot more of these ladies on Mr Robot and this panel and this week’s episode is very encouraging.I’m really looking forward to Insecure (premieres Sunday, October 9) and star/creator Issa Rae looked fabulous at the HBO panel in a black dress with a colorful patterned trim. Plus Rae is giving me new glasses frames to covet. Women are leading the way with fall comedies at HBO and Sharon Horgan was there to discuss Divorce (also on my highly anticipated list) while giving me so many Sharon from Catastrophe vibes with her attire. Yeah things get a little confusing name wise as Sharon Horgan plays Sharon on the excellent Catastrophe and typically I want everything in her wardrobe, as I do in life it would seem.In a patterned Etro frock delight is Divorce leading lady Sarah Jessica Parker and this ideal Summer TCA wear is perfect for a post panel cocktail. Sometimes sitting down shots obscure what makes a great looking outfit take a turn for the worst or as Samantha Powell puts it the “sheer skirt surprise.” Case in point; Michelle Dockery at the Good Behavior panel in a lovely floral Self Portrait dress, which looks great sitting down. At the TCA Turner summer party Michelle Dockery switched her outfit out and the collar detail is enough to make me ignore some of the other aspects I am less keen on. Ana Gasteyer is every level of casual great with a pair of fantastic stacked shoes/red toenails. Also at the TCA Turner summer party, Alia Shawkat is pretty much rocking my whole party aesthetic; drink in one hand and plate of food in the other. Love her very cute striped knotted shirt for extra casual vibes. Two weeks in a row for America Ferrera on “Out of the Box” and this is a much more casual setting as she promotes Superstore with co-star Ben Feldman. Both have got the casual/smart ratio down and I am especially into Ferrera’s geometric detailed pumps and pink blazer. Now for the fancy end of the scale as stars of The Americans Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys attended a state dinner at the White House; doing so in style and insert your Russian spy jokes here.
Russell wore an elegant draped Stephane Rolland black dress with a gold panel and it is her accessories that have caught my eye including the gold hand cuff. Going classic in a black tux and a strong hiatus beard is Matthew Rhys and for more BTS getting ready (beyond Instagram) check out People’s makeup rundown with TV Ate My Wardrobe fave Tina Turnbow.
Here is Keri Russell on The Tonight Show talking about that dinner and a white dress disaster near miss.
And for a slice of adorable and utterly charming check out their joint interview over at The Hollywood Reporter, which is pretty much, my new favorite thing. They talk their terrible ideas for how The Americans should end, why it is so great to have a character like Elizabeth Jennings, how The Wine Show came into fruition, Matthew Rhys guest starring in the final season of Girls, sex scenes on The Americans and Felicity’s hair. It is really good. More black dress and strong eye makeup this week and Zosia Mamet is crushing it at the 2016 ACE Awards. And at an event celebrating accessories she has picked well on the jewelry front.Black dresses for all in our non-TCA portion of “Out of the Box” and Gina Rodriguez goes super sexy in an off the shoulder BCBGMAXAZRIA at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Grants Banquet in Beverly Hills last night. Love the silver pumps too.
After Comic-Con it has been a pretty quiet on the red carpet front so it is a convention of a political kind that dominates “Out of the Box” this week and we’ll be taking a look at the celebrities who spoke at the DNC in Philadelphia. Angela Bassett working it on Day 3 wearing a sophisticated blue Karen Millen that wouldn’t look out of place on The Good Wife or Scandal; setting the right glam to serious tone. This is how you coordinate without looking matchy matchy and Lena Dunham’s Gabriela Hearst off the shoulder white frock is a style best and America Ferrara in a black and white Black Halo gown adds an extra punch with colorful pumps. When asked to stretch things out before introducing Paul Simon (and after giving a great speech) Sarah Silverman worked the camera giving the actual Look of the Week while Al Franken went peak dad on the joke front while they waited for Simon. Silverman also kept things classic and serious with her choice of ensemble. From the Day 2 walk through and I love everything about this shot of Elizabeth Banks and her fabulous paisley number. And for the actual thing Elizabeth Banks took a slightly more fun dress approach than some of the other celebrity speakers in a very cute Elie Saab, which works with the celeb filled and Pitch Perfect inspired “Fight Song” video that Banks helped conceive and introduced at the DNC. Switching out from the DNC to magazine covers and September issues are coming! UK Elle is taking this opportunity to give themselves a makeover with a re-design and September is the perfect time for this as it always strikes me as the month for new beginnings. All four covers go in close and look great, but it is Amandla Stenberg’s that really stood out and I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy.
A day earlier than the usual Behind the Insta-Scenes posting time and that’s because it has been jam packed with the ATX Television Festival in Austin delivering on the TV reunion front. Plus the Tony Awards and other great TV related hangouts.
The ATX Television Festival provided a whole lot of feelings all over Instagram (I would be a mess if I was there IRL) and the Friday Night Lights reunion was the number one source.
Also from Austin we’ve got Mae Whitman bringing together two parts of the Jason Katims TV map. I really like her glasses.
In more excellent TV reunion photos with the ladies from Ugly Betty and one boozy hangout dream scenario; Vanessa Williams AND Judith Light.
Posing up a storm and the UnREAL cast continues to crush all things on Instagram (also this week’s episode is SO great).
In non-shocking news to regular readers, but I adore this selfie. And everything about this friendship. Michelle Williams’ lipstick looks even better in close up.
This is also really wonderful and showcases the hell out of Busy Philipps’ amazing frock.
More in the Tony selfie stream and Lucy Liu was one of the yellow frock delights from the night.
Lupita gifts us with a Tonys dress and accessories still life; such exquisite and detailed work.
Glenn Close looks amazing and in a ‘stars they’re just like us’ moment she’s seen her clutching heels rather than wearing them after a big event (I normally last 2 hours, maybe 3 if/when the booze kicks in).
Busy Philipps has the Jane Eyre Olympia Le-Tan book cover clutch and this Bell Jar one (as mentioned in this Tonys post) is my ultimate clutch wish list item.
They didn’t get a chance to work together on The Good Wife, but I am so here for this.
A well earned coffee break on the set of Outlander.
You’re the Worst is now shooting season 3 and I cannot wait for more. Love the slippers, Kether.
BrainDead started last night and I liked the pilot a bunch; the leads are great and former Good Wife costume designer Daniel Lawson is giving me a whole new blazer wardrobe to covet.
Behind the scenes of this fantastic New York Magazine Tracee Ellis Ross photo shoot gives the bonus of seeing Ross dancing to Beyoncé.
Co-stars supporting co-stars, returning summer shows, crushes are all included in this week’s “Behind the Insta-Scenes.” Plus plenty of stylish moments, a very cute TBT and more from the CFDA Awards.
The Mr Robot season 2 promo train is gearing up with a dash of Emmy FYC and here is an adorably stylish photo of the cast being adorable.
OITNB returns in just over a week (!) and some of the cast were in Berlin giving off serious glam vibes.
UnREAL returned this week with a strong and biting premiere; here is Shiri Appleby gifting us with a Doogie Howser flashback.
Back to the present and this pairing makes me so happy; great wcw choice.
Tonight is The Americans S4 finale and Holly Taylor not only plays one of the best teens on TV, but her notebook prop from the show is so spot on with detail even if we barely get to see this stuff on screen.
Lupita Nyong’o continues to get excellent backstage visitors and this week 12 Years a Slave co-star Sarah Paulson dropped by.
Keeping on this track; the Jane the Virgin cast are coming out to support Jamie Camil’s summer turn on Broadway in Chicago.
More Jane the Virgin co-stars supporting co-stars delights.
This week I found out that Kristofer Hivju is on Instagram and my Tormund crush continues to grow.
While I’m on the subject of crushes. Oh, hello. So excited to have Scott Speedman back on TV.
From inside the CFDA Awards there are some fun Lena Dunham picture hangouts (and the second Sarah Paulson appearance on here this week).
A pre-awards look from the Broad City ladies.
From one awards show to another across the pond and another excellent group of ladies hanging out.
A whole lot of You’re the Worst feelings going on and so many heart eyes at every outfit.
Shopping while shooting the Trainspotting sequel.
Upfronts time and this means plenty of returning and new faces to network events as schedules are announced along with the trailers for shows that could either be here for a few episodes, multiple seasons or anywhere in-between. Day 1 includes Fox, NBC and the Entertainment Weekly and People Upfronts party. Let’s kick off this post with the new show I am most looking forward to from Fox and the return of Leighton Meester and Adam Pally to TV.
And now for the best of the red carpet. As with PaleyFest, TCAs and Comic-Con there is a mixture of fancy to casual with some new additions to #LadySuitWatch2016 in the mix.A very chic and relaxed outfit from Leighton Meester and the one person who makes me want to do a Gossip Girl rewatch. Plus she will be getting to show off her comedy chops and for anyone who watched Gossip Girl you will already know what great comic timing Meester has. On the Last Man on Earth finale Phil shaved off his very hairy side and Will Forte looks a whole lot less scary than the last time he graced these pages. I am very glad I returned to Last Man on Earth after ditching early in season 1 as it is a wonderful and often very bizarre show; it is good to see network TV embracing comedies of this kind.
January Jones looks great in a white ladysuit and red lipstick and Kristen Schaal’s giving me so many collar related feels. I also love that Schaal is a big fan of flats making her very much a woman after my own heart.Jussie Smollett crushing it in a bold blue number and doing the top button done up/no tie thing with aplomb.Another fan of this style choice is Rami Malek, but at the NBC upfront he is leaning much more into his casual preferences. Still top button done up, but in a patterned number with a Members Only like jacket.
Christian Slater also opts for something similar as this pair does the Mr Robot rounds and now might be a good time to tell you to watch the new season 2 promo.
The “infinite loop of insanity” continues and I really want Darlene’s heart shape glasses.Moving on to the Entertainment Weekly and People party, but keeping on the Mr Robot track with Rami Malek changing his top half for this shindig. #LadySuitWatch2016 points for co-star Portia Doubleday in a classic looking black number. All that is missing is some super red lipstick to really complete the ensemble.Samira Wiley’s got the lipstick thing right and gives her cool LBD a color injection with a funky striped clutch. Orange is the New Black returns in a month and you can watch the promo here.Maybe this will be the summer I finally invest in a jumpsuit and my bravery levels will probably extend to a classic black number like this one worn by Yael Grobglas. The only thing I would maybe switch out here is a more colorful pump.Tracee Ellis Ross mixes business with party in a buttoned white plunging stunner.Vanessa Hudgens goes full boho in a 70s inspired sheer and metallic Haney dress and a fantastic looking America Ferrera in red lace floral and strappy shoes at the EW and People Upfront event.
Continuing our Sundance fashion love-in with more knitwear, boots and coat treats for you to scroll through. Plus awards season keeps on keeping on, the American Crime Story red carpet delivers and another fantastic magazine cover has been unveiled. Jena Malone is slaying at the Lovesong premiere in matching black and white checks in an outfit that looks super chic and cozy at the same time. Topping things off with killer red lips and boots.Going slightly more casual with checks is Maya Rudolph at the Mr Pig premiere also earning those all important red lipstick points. Sundance continues to be my fave for all things that I might actually have in my wardrobe. Sparkly jumper dress, black tights and boots for Elisabeth Moss at the premiere for The Free World is the glitzy form of red carpet attire here; count me all in.This is just the best combination of all the things I love from Elisabeth Moss out and about at Sundance. My only concern is the lack of gloves. This calls for a good pair of fingerless chunky knits or some Carol inspired leather ones.More Sundance red carpet excellence from Tegan and Sara with hints of #LadySuitWatch2016 on display at The Intervention premiere. Tegan’s grey boots are high on my covet list. All the 90s teen movie feelings are being felt as a result of The Intervention red carpet. Also boosted by Natasha Lyonne’s sweater looking like a black version of the dog on the “Odelay” cover.Polka dots pretty (plus pockets!) for America Ferrera at the Producers Guild Awards and this Alexia Maria dress is ticking all our boxes. Ferrera has been a regular on TV Ate My Wardrobe over this busy red carpet season and she recently pointed out she is currently living in a world of clothing extremes.First of all let’s ditch any kind of headlines that refer to a baby bump as if it is an accessory that can be removed at will (see every DM headline ever – i.e. “[insert pregnant celeb] takes baby bump to x”). Secondly the whole “unveiling their baby bump” nonsense can also go. So here is Anne Hathaway wearing a very cute Marc Jacobs dress and yes she looks radiant, but she always tends to pregnancy or not. *end of rant*The kids from Black-ish continue their style domination at the NAACP Awards Nominees’ Luncheon this week. And I still really need to get caught up on this show.Aya Cash was early to #LadySuitWatch2016 and she is keeping a solid jacket game in this gold lame number on the red carpet for The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story (a show that is very high on my most anticipated list). As someone who isn’t in the cast this is ideal attire as it is super cool without being too showy.Angel Parker is playing attorney Shawn Chapman – part of OJ’s Dream Team – and she’s paired a bold red dress with an excellent array of accessories from silver pumps to a mirrored clutch (which looks a lot like this Viola Davis one). Also those all important red lipstick points.Sarah Paulson has been killing it on the red carpet of late and this is another triumph (even if as Samantha Powell mentions this Stella McCartney dress was everywhere in 2012). Such a good color.Amanda Peet’s look wouldn’t be out of place in the top half of this post and as with Aya Cash this is the ideal kind of outfit for someone who is not in the project. Sweater, lipstick and casually slung coat over the shoulder yeses all around. One of my favorite magazine covers of recent years was from Out and this Jussie Smollet shot is another case of letting a strong image do all the talking. In the interview he lays it all out including this:
“God, I’ve never had to talk about this, so I’m trying to find the words. If I had to label myself, I would label myself as a gay man. With that said, I believe that love is the only thing that matters, and I would hope that anybody would leave themselves open — not to gender, but to love. I would hope that people would not close themselves off from what could be if, lo and behold, you meet somebody that just sweeps you off your feet, and you just can’t do anything about it. If we truly believe that we are born this way, then why do we try to stifle the way we were born? If I fall in love down the road with a woman, I’m going to love that woman.”
It is worth checking out the full interview here and there are also more dreamy pictures from the editorial waiting.
“My Name is Jonas” has been stuck in my head all week and there is a very obvious reason for this as social media has been awash with a blizzard by a certain name. So yes, plenty of snow pics from this edition of Behind the Insta-Scenes. Plus Sundance, red lipstick (insert emoji here), guests stars, that touted Friends reunion and more.
Snow plus dogs equals all the adorable especially when the dog is also dressed for the occasion. Cush Jumbo’s fur hood/gloves/big scarf continues the theme of all things winter wear this week on TV Ate My Wardrobe.
Russell Tovey’s dog Rocky has snow shoes and I can’t even with how cute this is. Rocky does not seem thrilled by this weather.
Diane Kruger attempts a potentially perilous jump in the air snow pic and if I attempted this the likelihood of sticking the landing would be slim. Excellent coats and mittens choice (wouldn’t expect anything less). What we really want to know is who took the photo?
Enjoying the snow also in style is Joshua Jackson. Same question – who took the pic? (This one looks like it could be a selfie)
Not often you get to stand in the middle of a New York road like this. Got to take these opportunities where you can.
Drew Barrymore also has the same idea and everyone is killing it with their coat game.
As is Mark Ruffalo.
Yep there really was a lot of snow as this video from Justin Theroux shows.
It’s not all outdoor adventures for Justin Theroux and craft day with Amy Sedaris sounds truly magical.
Sundance traveling treats to the festival.
Popcorn selfies that also need the lipstick emoji because Jenny Slate and Zoe Kazan have picked their color well. Can it survive the movie snacks? The true test of a good product.
While we’re on the subject of amazing lip color…
We can’t not include the TV Insta photo that has been making all the headlines this week even if this isn’t a complete Friends reunion.
This is definitely too much tune. Also I wonder how often this happens to John Mulaney and Nick Kroll.
Jane the Virgin and My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend both returned this week and to celebrate the casts had a joint viewing party.
Broad City is back in under a month (February 17!) and this just got me even more excited.
Grant Gustin knows he has no chill.
This Scandal director has me all kinds of excited.
From TCA part 1 of a catch me if you can shot with Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich.
And part 2 (it looks better in grid formation on Instagram), Photographer Maarten de Boer also has a whole lot of excellent Sundance pics.
This week’s Golden Globes coverage extends beyond the many red carpet posts with a whole lot of selfies from the ballroom and the after parties. Plus a whole slew of other events and reminders of when certain shows are back.
Kicking things off with all the pretty from Gina Rodriguez and Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac. Plus Gina Rodriguez gives an all important beard smell related tweet.
From the American Horror Story: Hotel table where it looks like shenanigans are being had.
Backstage selfies with varying opinions about the lighting.
A quick change from Taraji P. Henson makes a whole lot of sense because dancing with a train that long is just impractical. Serayah opts for one of the bold color looks that was on trend this weekend.
Serious smolder and pout face from The Flash’s Grant Gustin and Shantel VanSanten and also a really good opportunity to remind you The Flash is back next week.
A shuttle shortage caused major parking lot hanging out, but our new favorite on (and off) screen besties took the opportunity to snap a shot.
A before photo from Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
It helps to be in with both HBO and Netflix as Pedro Pascal’s invites show.
The Netflix love is strong at a pre-Globes party with OITNB’s Elizabeth Rodriguez, Pedro Pascal and Netflix newbie Gillian Jacobs.
A busy weekend full of events for many and Gillian Jacobs attended the Vivienne Westwood ‘Art of Elysium’ celebration on Saturday in this stunning floral number. Getting pet approval points too.
Carly Chaikin’s AFI luncheon dress is one of our ultimate faves from the sea of recent outfits we have discussed and we also highly approve of her selfie subject from this event.
Mindy Kaling has worn a lot of amazing things and her Instagram acts as an outfit archive, but I can definitely see why she is calling this one of her favorites. All the heart eye emojis.
And if you were wondering when How to Get Away with Murder is back here is a delightful cast selfie from Viola Davis with that information.
A very intriguing Jane the Virgin behind the scenes sneak peek.
Just wondering how many synthetic beauties there are among this collection of Keri Russell Americans costumes and my eyes are instantly drawn to the green (p)leather number.
Oh hey! Fancy seeing you here for more Golden Globes coverage and after the all things that sparkle rundown we’ve got some bold color offerings for you to enjoy.
America Ferrera was the first person I saw on the red carpet when I got in from work and I maybe yelled in joy at seeing her in this color (okay I definitely yelled) and it is a Jenny Packham ray of sunshine.
Ferrera was also part of one of the best parts of the show when she presented with Eva Longoria as they called out those who mix them up for other Latina actresses. Oh like how the official Golden Globes Twitter account confused Ferrera for Gina Rodriguez.
Jennifer Lopez serving up full Hollywood glamour in a not quite mustard and probably chartreuse caped Giambattista Valli. The Shades Of Blue promos (which featured throughout the show) use of “You Don’t Own Me” reminded me of how much I want a First Wives Club remake staring Ben Affleck’s exes. Make it happen, Hollywood.
The Golden Globes have a tradition of giving one award to a lady newcomer (including Keri Russell for Felicity, Jennifer Garner for Alias and last year Gina Rodriguez won for Jane the Virgin) and they repeated this trend with Rachel Bloom and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (on the list of shows I need to catch up on). Both her speech and custom Christian Siriano gown are excellent.
Last year Gina Rodriguez went a little safe and sedate; this year she has gone big in Zac Posen and she looks great. Plus, pockets!
Okay so I definitely feel like I have seen this dress a bunch of times, but Emmy Rossum’s choice of accessories are helping give this Giorgio Armani Prive a boost. It was a quiet year for red on the red carpet especially when compared to last year’s Golden Globes.
