Best of the 2016 Met Gala: Everything Else

3 May

Continuing our rundown of the best of the 2016 Met Gala and the ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology’ theme. Part 1 focused on all the sparkly and shining looks, whereas Part 2 is pretty much a smorgasbord of tech/futurism interpretations including color, white, pattern and some very handsome dudes.Zoe SaldanaZoe Saldana’s feather train stunner from Dolce & Gabbana is a show stopping moment. Katy PerryAlso serving up high drama is Katy Perry in gold embellished Prada with some added tech from the Tamagotchi she has hanging from her belt. Let’s hope she remembered to feed it while she as partying.
Danai Gurira
Danai Gurira is a TV Ate My Wardrobe favorite and she continues her sartorial hot streak in a striking white Giambattista Valli gown.Karlie KlossWe’ve got a before and after from Karlie Kloss with a two-part Brandon Maxwell starting with a demure capelet that I am giving so many heart eye emojis to.Karlie Kloss (capelet off)To this cutout stunner. It even looks like Kloss has switched out her clutch for both versions. Same fantastic red lipstick for both.

Update!

This ensemble got another dramatic style change via a pair of scissors and some booze (thanks to Sophie for the heads up).

Allison WilliamsMore red lip color excellence and cutouts from Allison Williams in a stunning floral Peter Pilotto gown. Naomie HarrisAnother Naomie in Burberry, but this is a very different interpretation to the theme and the detail of Naomie Harris’ gown is mesmerizing. Amandla StenbergMore #LadySuitWatch2016 and Amandla Stenberg’s Calvin Klein ensemble is made complete by what Amandla herself calls ‘Afro Futurism.’ Seriously excellent accessorizing and keeping with the theme.Beyonce KnowlesBeyoncé takes a brief break from her ‘Formation’ tour and general domination of everything music at the moment to slay in latex Givenchy. Jessica ChastainSome looks are harder to get the theme than others. Case in point – Jessica Chastain’s peacock blue Prada, but this is a stunning color on her so I’ll let it slide.SJPSarah Jessica Parker tends to go big at the Met Gala and this year she’s decided to go in a whole other direction with a Hamilton inspired take in Monse (and SJP Collection shoes, obvs) and I guess I have to applaud the audacity to go for something entirely different. Plus Andy Cohen looks like he is having fun here.Rami MalekNow onto the solo guys and stylist Ilaria Urbinati continues to dominate in all things fabulous menswear injecting some color with Rami Malek in Dior.Tom HiddlestonAnd going for a much more traditional look for Tom Hiddleston in Ralph Lauren; Urbinati definitely knows how to pick the perfect suit.Idris ElbaEnding this Met Gala rundown with so much handsome and the event co-chair; Idris Elba crushes it in tailored to perfection Tom Ford.
