Best of the Golden Globes 2015 Red Carpet: Black Frocks, Crop Tops, Tuxes and Everything Else

12 Jan

Rounding out the TV Ate My Wardrobe 2015 Golden Globe coverage with a smorgasbord of style highs with some daring approaches and a whole array of classic looks. Plus a couple of family portraits.

Lorde GGNo I did not think a crop top would pop up on this list, but thanks to Lorde in an incredible Narciso Rodriguez ensemble this is a thing that has happened. I want this jacket in my life.

Claire DanesThis might be down to Danes style blindness but I love this Valentino frock (which Claire Danes referred to as a work of art on E!), well aside from the sheer panel. Ace earrings too.

Jessica ChastainWhile Jessica Chastain’s Atelier Versace gown is giving me all the Amy Adams American Hustle feelings and thereby it isn’t setting the world on fire, Chastain still looks super sexy and incredible.

Gina Rodriguez GGGina Rodriguez follows in the Golden Globe first season award winning group for sometimes teen show affairs – which includes Claire Danes, Keri Russell and Jennifer Garner – and she played it safe in black Badgley Mischka. She looks flawless and I can even see beyond the fringed sheer skirt. As I lamented yesterday I still need to watch Jane the Virgin and her speech was one of the many misty eye inducing moments.

Allison TolmanAllison Tolman opted for a similar shape gown to the one she wore at the Emmys and why not when it looks this good. Great accessory choices and overall styling.

Eddie Redmanye GGEddie Redmayne did not disappoint with his choice of Gucci tuxedo and there’s not a lot of guys who could work the velvet look this well. Love the olive color and cut of Hannah Bagshawe’s frock. Yes the lean is happening.

Jake and MaggieHappy sibling time and the Gyllenhaal’s are a delight. Jake gets beard points and while I think Maggie’s dress would be better in a bolder color (I thought blue whereas Whitney McIntosh suggested green) the Miu Miu frock is still lovely. Maggie Gyllenhaal winning for The Honourable Woman was another excellent speech moment:

“I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about the wealth of roles for powerful women in television lately, and when I look around the room at the women who are in here and I think about the performances that I’ve watched this year, what I see actually are women who are sometimes powerful and sometimes not. Sometimes sexy, sometimes not. Sometimes honorable, sometimes not. And what I think is new is the wealth of roles for actual women in television and in film.”

BoyhoodA celebratory portrait of the Boyhood family and I am all over Lorelei Linklater’s pink dip dyed hair and this is another sheer moment that in a surprise twist is working for me.

Tina and Amy tux heartGoing to end with two of the ladies of the night and the biggest swoon moment came from Tina Fey’s lady tux of amazing. This is hosting attire perfection. Another beautiful blue gown for Amy Poehler.

While it is still up on YouTube here is their searing, hilarious and incredible opening monologue:

Best of the Golden Globes 2015 Red Carpet: The Color Wheel

12 Jan

Red isn’t the only color that was on trend at the Golden Globes and a variety of strong hues made a dramatic impact.

Naomi WattsYellow is a color I am constantly drawn to and while it is going to be hard to top my ultimate red carpet moment Naomi Watts in Gucci is a contender for best dressed last night. Bold red lip and the snake necklace add to the impact of this look.

Julia Goldani TellesAs Samantha Powell pointed out on Twitter last night there was a serious lack of heavyweights wearing Oscar de la Renta, however The Affair’s Julia Goldani Telles is stunning in this striking blue Oscar de la Renta ball gown. More bonus lipstick points getting dished out.

Felicity JonesNow this is the kind of gown a nominee should be wearing and Felicity Jones is a standout in Dior Couture. The teal color and especially the cut with the high neckline is giving me so many good feelings. A lot of the Theory of Everything love has been directed towards Eddie Redmayne (who won last night), but it is Jones who I am in awe of.

LupitaSo this isn’t a full red carpet shot of the Giambattista Valli gown that would probably be a bit much on someone who doesn’t have the style queen prowess of Lupita Nyong’o – the bodice detail is incredible but could overwhelm – but I really wanted to include a shot of her wearing glasses. Also this is what I assume is Colin Farrell’s True Detective look.

Leslie MannAnother stunning yellow with Leslie Mann in Kaufmanfranco and I love the contrast with the bold Ferragamo green clutch. Also this red lipstick.

Amy Poehler and Natasha LyonneA pair of blue beauties and Amy Poehler’s Stella McCartney pocketed ensemble is another dress which is giving me 70s vibe. Natasha Lyonne is also working this bold shade of blue in Reem Acra.

Best of the Golden Globes 2015 Red Carpet: Lady in Red

12 Jan

Continuing the Golden Globes all the pretty dresses rundown and moving on from shimmer with a look at one of the big color trends of the night; red on the red carpet.

Viola Davis GGRed lipstick and gown excellence from Viola Davis wearing Donna Karan Atelier with a touch of embellishments to add some glitz to an already stunning frock.

Taylor SchillingFor pure red no fuss Ralph Lauren is who you turn to (see Jennifer Lawrence at the 2011 Oscars) and Taylor Schilling is working this frock.

Christine BaranskiFor a darker shade here is Christine Baranski killing it in Zac Posen. Always in awe of Baranski.

Julianna MarguliesThe length of Julianna Margulies’ Ulyana Sergeenko Couture gown is super awkward and this is one that looks better before you scroll down, but there are still certain aspects that work for me.

Jane Fonda and Lily TomlinAnother best pairing of the night and if I had any choice the hosts of next year’s Golden Globes. All the prayer hands emojis for Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Allison Williams GGThis look is both very Allison Williams and not at the same time as the makeup is a little on the severe side for her and yet the Armani Privé gown is a striking combination of old Hollywood glamour and the princessy vibe she leans towards.

Best of the Golden Globes 2015 Red Carpet: Sparkle Motion

12 Jan

Welcome to TV Ate My Wardrobe’s coverage of the 2015 Golden Globes red carpet and we’re going to be splitting this up into four posts covering all the major trends of the night. This was a really strong year for a variety of styles and not only that but the awards themselves were at times incredibly touching with many misty eye inducing speeches. Good work everyone.

First up the super sparkly gowns.

Diane KrugerKicking off with the best dressed couple of the night and Diane Kruger’s super shimmery Emilia Wickstead dress is eye catching and the same can be said for Joshua Jackson in a tux. Kruger also had the best reaction to The Affair winning best show as January Jones can attest.

julianne mooreJulianne Moore serving up feathered and sequin perfection in Givenchy Couture. There was cheering at this red carpet moment.

Uzo AdubaAnother big style win for Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba in a column of silver Randi Rahm goodness.

Maura tierneyTaking a brief break from all over silver with Maura Tierney in a chain mail style wine color frock and this is one of several looks from the night with a 70s inspired edge.

Emma stoneAnd now for something completely different and Emma Stone gets added to my “huh, jumpsuits can be pretty fantastic list” with this stunner from Lanvin. The bow that turns into a train should be too much but it works.

Dakota JohnsonMore metallic decadence and former Ben and Kate star Dakota Johnson dazzles in Chanel Couture.

ellie kemperEllie Kemper is a beaded beauty in this exquisite Naeem Khan dress. Bonus red lipstick points are awarded.

Stay tuned for more Golden Globe red carpet reactions.

Best of the Pre-Golden Globes Parties

11 Jan

Happy Golden Globes Day! It isn’t just about the dresses (and suits) on display from the awards show as there has been a lot of pre-gaming at various events over the past few days. Here are some of our favorite looks including a whole lot of pattern from W Magazine’s Golden Globes celebration and the 2015 BAFTA LA Tea Party.

Diane Kruger MarniDiane Kruger is serving up 1960s perfection in a lilac Marni frock at the party and the leopard-print A.L.C. ‘Davenport’ clutch is the perfect addition to an already fantastic outfit.

Amy Landecker Jay DuplassJay Duplass is wearing a shirt that is stylistically in tune with his character on Transparent in this fun shot with co-star Amy Landecker at W’s Golden Globe celebration.

Tracee Ellis RossThere is something a little upholstery about Tracee Ellis Ross’ dress but this is floral perfection nonetheless. Bonus red lipstick points awarded.

Gina RodriguezMoving on to the BAFTA Tea Party and starting with Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez in a very cute and fun Guishem dress. I’m looking forward to seeing what Rodriguez will wear on the red carpet later and I will also continue to lament the fact I have still yet to watch Jane the Virgin.

Joanne FroggattYes this is a playsuit and while I have my own play/jumpsuit concerns, over the past few months I have warmed to them on others and Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt in Emilia Wickstead is another I find myself liking a whole bunch. The flash of pastel color with the clutch detracts from the slightly blah nude strappy sandals.

Moran AtiasThis is a very delightful look from Tyrant’s Moran Atias with butterflies and plaid from Temperley London at the BAFTA Tea Party.

Gillian AndersonThis reads a little more beach and cocktails than tea party mostly because I think it needs a necklace; however Gillian Anderson is still resplendent in this ensemble.

Jamie DornanAnderson’s The Fall co-star Jamie Dornan shows how to do the suit without a shirt and tie thing with aplomb. The pocket square is a nice touch and while I’m all for beardy goodness this is entering the too grizzly stages.

Eddie RedmanyeEddie Redmayne’s suit game is consistently strong (as consistent as his pose leaning which I can’t unsee since Tom and Lorenzo mentioned it) and his Alexander McQueen electric-blue suit at the BAFTA event is no different. He is definitely my most anticipated dude for his evening.

Kit Harington BAFTAAnd finally wearing something that sits in the middle of Redmayne’s suit and Dornan’s jacket/no shirt and tie is Kit Harington looking far more casual than his Testament of Youth premiere attire from last week.

Come back tomorrow for a whole lot more dress (and suit) analysis.
