Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

29 Jun

Lots of Orange is the New Black on the TV Insta menu this week including the cast Times Talk and taking part in the New York City Pride parade. Plus You’re the WorstUnREAL and plenty of style highs to scroll through.

Exhibit 1. The You’re the Worst set looks like a very happy place.

Exhibit 2. Also welcome Samira Wiley to You’re the Worst and this is very good casting news. Sunglasses and denim heaven.

Ruling TV Instagram this week is the Orange is the New Black cast including behind the scenes shots that couldn’t be shared during shooting (because spoilers) and a variety of public appearances.

Unplanned accidental ladysuit black and white reversed co-ordination at the OITNB Times Talk panel.

Danielle Brooks bows out of this talk early (after taking this great picture of Taylor Schilling and Laura Prepon) and she has the best reason; she has to go to her other job performing on Broadway in The Color Purple.

The OITNB cast also took part in New York City’s Pride parade on Sunday and are giving off so many great outfit vibes.

Including Samira Wiley’s custom Milly tee (which I am coveting hard).

A really beautiful shot of Dascha Polanco from the parade taken by Natasha Lyonne.

Rivaling the OITNB for most prolific cast on Instagram is UnREAL and thankfully everyone looks far happier here than they do behind the scenes on Everlasting.

Constance Zimmer giving great face and boob touching poses as the UnREAL season 2 promo trail continues. Makeup artist Tina Turnbow delivers on the lipstick choice once again.

Jenny Slate reveals some bathtub filming secrets.

Lots of cupcakes for Aubrey Plaza’s birthday and a Parks and Rec reunion courtesy of Anna Faris’ excellent podcast Anna Faris is Unqualified.

A fantastic look from Busy Philipps and this patterned Gucci frock is also getting added to the coveting hard list.

Pretty sure Julia Louis-Dreyfus has a portrait in her attic.

Not entirely sure what is going on here but it is equal parts terrifying and amazing. Super cute casual outfit too.

Music Monday: The Game of Thrones Season 6 Finale Edition

28 Jun

The Game of Thrones season 6 finale delivered on every front finally confirming a long held theory about a certain character’s parentage, resolving conflicts, setting up new ones and leaving us in a place clamoring for more episodes. Some spoilers ahead.

Plus this piece of music is so good we’re doing Music Monday on a Tuesday.

Cersei’s big plan paid off while leaving a trail of the dead and this opening extended sequence is one of the best that Game of Thrones has ever done ratcheting up the tension at every turn. Part of this was down to Ramin Djawadi’s score which started off sounding like a less melancholy version of the Leftovers repeated piano themes. Bringing in cellos and then the super dramatic sounding organ as the pieces fall into place is next level score genius and it has been pretty much been on repeat for most of yesterday and this morning. It makes typing feel all the more urgent.

Hollywood Reporter Drama Actress 2016 Roundtable: Watch the Full Video

28 Jun

Last night the first process of Emmy voting closed with the initial round of nominations. Those will not be announced until Thursday, July 14 and in the meantime the full versions of the Hollywood Reporter Emmy roundtable discussions will air every Sunday on SundanceTV before being made available on YouTube.

The first one up is the drama actresses and we showcased this chat a few weeks ago when this amazing group of women covered The Hollywood Reporter.

Now watch the whole conversation below.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

24 Jun

“Out of the Box” is a smorgasbord of outfit YES moments including prints, super cute collars and red lipstick. Plus the platonic ideal of a casual outfit, sunglasses and discussing a new TV character style icon.Parker PoseyI am a big Parker Posey and Coach fan – this leather T-Rex adorned varsity jacket is amazing – so the combination of both at the 2016 Coach And Friends Of The High Line Summer Party is pretty much the best. Part of the Posey charm is that she can pattern clash the shit out of anything and still look this fantastic.Jessica JoffeCoach are embracing prints that would make perfect 1970s carpet/wallpaper/any upholstery and in non-shocking news I am so here for it. Jessica Joffe’s dress hits all the right notes and I’m currently coveting a whole lot from Coach’s RTW collection.Evan Rachel WoodLadysuit, red lips, fantastic collar and silver shoes; Evan Rachel Wood at the Into the Forest premiere wears all of my favorite things.Aubrey PlazaIdeal casual outfit alert from Aubrey Plaza on her way in to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and I will never not love a great sweater paired with jeans and white (Commes des Garcon – you can’t see the heart face in this shot sadly) Cons. And as the Fug Girls say; everyone looks hotter in sunglasses.Kristen SchaalAt the BFG premiere Kristen Schaal did pleats and block color in the best possible way. Schaal’s a big fan of flats and for that I salute her especially when pink Oxfords are her shoe of choice.Ruth NeggaInterview Magazine keeps dishing up excellent editorials and Ruth Negga’s is another to add to the stunning list. Despite it being June I’m having a whole lot of strong coat feelings this week and this Miu Miu one delivers on every level. Negga’s Tulip is the best thing about Preacher and a new TV style icon to adore; she discusses the audition process and that she has worked with Dominic Cooper on a number of occasions prior to this. Plus what she thinks about the tone of Preacher:

I really like that kind of oddness. Everything seems straightforward in Preacher but nothing is; everything is kind of askew. You’re dealing with this hyper unrealness—that’s what comics are—and I like that sort of twist.”

Negga also chats about Cannes and the film Loving which is already getting some very early awards buzz.

Getting a Divorce with Sarah Jessica Parker: Watch the First Long Tease

23 Jun

Middle fingers are raised in the first long teaser for Sarah Jessica Parker’s new HBO show Divorce and I’m looking forward to this for a number of reasons. Catastrophe star and co-creator Sharon Horgan is the creative force behind this new SJP venture; this alone makes this a highly anticipated project as Catastrophe has taken the relationship comedy and exploration of parenting to new heights. SJP and costuming is another box ticker and forget the mess that was the Sex and the City movies as the show is iconic when it comes to fashion on TV.

Divorce looks like it was shot over winter and this means coats, glorious coats and the first image HBO released does look like it could be a still from SATC.SJPSwitching out New York for the countryside, dating for divorce and brunch for dinner parties and the new Divorce teaser is here to set aside some of the SATC comparisons. Plus it looks like there will be teens and tweens if this other promo photo is anything to go by (and more coats).Divorce

Watch the teaser below and be warned there are mustache opinions.

Divorce premieres in the fall.

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

22 Jun

Between Orange is the New Black and “The Battle of the Bastards” there was a lot going on this week on TV and this edition of “Behind the Insta-Scenes” has got you covered on both. Plus we’ve got shows that are currently in productions, ones that have just finished and lots of other fun stuff is on the Instagram highlights menu.

It’s all fun and games in Maureen when things aren’t getting set on fire/people aren’t being stabbed.

A “How to Get Blood out of Your Beard” tutorial is probably needed for the Game of Thrones guys and it is good to see all is crazy in love when the camera stops rolling.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BG6rlmwuA-8/?taken-by=deansjagger

And now for a “Who Wore it Better?” Battle of the Bastards edition (Part 2).

I have a lot of feelings about this new season of Orange is the New Black and I don’t want to say too much for those who have not finished yet, but I am very happy the OITNB cast have been posting photos like the one above. Need this moment of happiness.

And adorable ones like this, which is also from the New York premiere.

Adding to the feelings scale is the Orphan Black season 4 finale and thanks for the flowers Tatiana!

Now for shows currently in production and this bts shot of Justin Theroux from season 3 of The Leftovers. As Theroux points out; no handcuffs (or shirt) necessary.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGuxkd-JcRi/?taken-by=imrosemciver&hl=en

After recently marathoning my way through the first two seasons of iZombie I’ve still got that post-watch emptiness (see also OITNB) so even though there isn’t a season 3 premiere date yet, it is good to see some of the cast back on iZombie duty.

There are lots of reasons to be excited about this new season of You’re the Worst and one of them is this amazing casting news.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BG5HHynGtsh/?taken-by=mewins&hl=en

On BrainDead Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Tveit danced together. It was magical. As is this prom style pic.

While a lot of the FNL cast were in Austin for the ATX Television Festival; Aimee Teegarden, Taylor Kitsch, Zach Gilford and Minka Kelly were taking part in the Spartan Race. Another reunion I can get behind. Even with Kitsch’s mustache.

This is from a couple of weeks ago (when I covered the outfits from this event), but somehow I missed it and I’m making up for that now.

Joshua Jackson and Kiernan Shipka doing their best January Jones pose might be my new favorite thing.

The way to get two entries is to quote from Overboard. Always an instant YES in my book/blog.

Music Monday: Orange is the New Black and Sharon Van Etten’s “You Know Me Well”

20 Jun

Happy Monday or not depending on where you are in your Orange is the New Black watch. I’m going to keep things on the spoiler free side as much as possible and as with previous seasons OITNB is another in contention for “Best Closing Creditssong choices. I’ve talked at length about songs that end an episode and how important this selection can be when dictating the emotional stakes of the action it plays over or that has preceded it.

The tone can be set in this moment and can leave you feeling uplifted, but that’s not what we’re doing this morning. Sorry.

This Music Monday selection is in a devastating vein harking back to the equally heartbreaking and amazing Dum Dum Girls “Coming Down” from season 3 and Sharon Van Etten’s “You Know Me Well” closes out episode 6. This is when the season really kicks into gear; bringing together old threads with the overall themes of this season. Themes which go deeper and darker than previous years and I don’t want to say too much more other than whoa this is an A+ pick.

Be right back, just gonna continue sobbing all over my keyboard thanks to this song/show.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

17 Jun

The Tony Awards red carpet was awash with color and pattern so it was interesting to see that the rest of this week was so dominated by neutrals and metallics with a dash of florals.

We’ve got the New York Orange is the New Black premiere and a couple of other events featuring some TV Ate My Wardrobe faves.Samira WileyHappy OITNB Day!

Samira Wiley in a classic plunging black jumpsuit – cue reminder that I still need to embrace this trend – and bold berry lip color. OITNBI love seeing group shots of this cast because what other show has this much diversity and array of body shapes, looks and style choices with this many women? I think the answer is probably none. And this is just a small portion of the sizable OITNB cast.

Outfit standouts here include Laverne Cox and Uzo Aduba with Taylor Schilling and Natasha Lyonne – does this mean Nicky is back? – getting the lipstick points. Vicky JeudyGoing for a look that would fit right in at Studio 54 and Vicky Jeudy crushes it in gold metallic Halston. Taraji P HensonKeeping on the metal theme with Taraji P. Henson in Marc Jacobs serving up a whole lot of steel with a dash of floral embellishment at the Women In Film 2016 Crystal + Lucy Awards; Henson was honored with the Lucy Award for Excellence in Television for her performance as Cookie Lyon on EmpireClaire DanesKeeping on this muted shimmery trend at the Women In Film 2016 Crystal + Lucy Awards is Claire Danes in Dolce & Gabbana with her second red carpet appearance on TV Ate My Wardrobe this week. Pink lipstick yes! Kerry WashingtonKerry Washington is a patterned dress wearing queen and after last week’s dreamy D&G number here is another delight; this time it is Giambattista Valli and I am particularly here for those floaty sleeves. More pink lipstick to add some color into this week’s muted tones theme. Rose McIverEnding this week’s “Out of the Box” with a boost of color and pants with Rose McIver at the 2016 Women in Film Max Mara Face of the Future event celebrating Natalie Dormer (who was honored at the Women In Film 2016 Crystal + Lucy Awards – also sponsored by Max Mara).

McIver’s look is giving me so many late 90s flashbacks, but not of the choker *shudder* kind and this looks like something I would have worn back then and even now. Also giving me Keri Russell in Felicity vibes. Love the fresh faced/hair back approach here and I cannot wait for iZombie to return after my recent binge.

The 2016 Comedy Actress Emmy Roundtable

15 Jun

Emmy roundtable season continues and The Hollywood Reporter has unveiled the comedy actress panel featuring an amazing lineup of Lily Tomlin, Gina Rodriguez, Ilana Glazer, Niecy Nash, Allison Janney and Rachel Bloom.

Emmy voting is now open and you can see the full list of submissions here; once again Allison Janney has a chance of picking up two awards in comedy (Mom) and drama (Masters of Sex). I’m going to be taking a closer look at the costume design submissions in the not too distant future as a specific episode is listed for each one so keep an eye out for that.THRStyling wise I prefer this (click on image for a closer look) to the drama actress pastels and satin (or bridesmaids as Kirsten Dunst accurately referred to it) with Ilana Glazer’s tuxedo dress and Rachel Bloom’s white ladysuit being my personal favorites.

The actual roundtable (which you can read here) is unsurprisingly great and continues the theme of people I would love to have a boozy lunch/dinner with.THRSo far there’s only a couple of clips on YouTube – there are more on THR – including this fantastic Rachel Bloom video which makes me feel bad that I still haven’t watched Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and it is  also a good reminder that Bloom used to live with Ilana Glazer.

And Allison Janney gives a good lesson in things you shouldn’t say to a famous person or when you think a person looks like a famous person. Just don’t do it.

This has been a really good THR roundtable season also extending to the equally wonderful Tony actress discussion and there will be more Emmy chat on TV Ate My Wardrobe in the coming weeks. Emmy nomination day is July 14 and the Emmys will be held Sunday, September 18.

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

14 Jun

A day earlier than the usual Behind the Insta-Scenes posting time and that’s because it has been jam packed with the ATX Television Festival in Austin delivering on the TV reunion front. Plus the Tony Awards and other great TV related hangouts.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGfsSQ-PqNe/?taken-by=skittishkid&hl=en

The ATX Television Festival provided a whole lot of feelings all over Instagram (I would be a mess if I was there IRL) and the Friday Night Lights reunion was the number one source.

Also from Austin we’ve got Mae Whitman bringing together two parts of the Jason Katims TV map. I really like her glasses.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGig69hyauJ/?taken-by=americaferrera&hl=en

In more excellent TV reunion photos with the ladies from Ugly Betty and one boozy hangout dream scenario; Vanessa Williams AND Judith Light.

Posing up a storm and the UnREAL cast continues to crush all things on Instagram (also this week’s episode is SO great).

Danai Gurira was one of our Tony Awards red carpet faves and not only is she delivering on the excellent Insta multi group shots, but she’s also given us a getting ready photo diary over at Vogue.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGk64FkwPpG/?taken-by=busyphilipps&hl=en

In non-shocking news to regular readers, but I adore this selfie. And everything about this friendship. Michelle Williams’ lipstick looks even better in close up.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGmxFCVQPsE/?taken-by=busyphilipps&hl=en

This is also really wonderful and showcases the hell out of Busy Philipps’ amazing frock.

More in the Tony selfie stream and Lucy Liu was one of the yellow frock delights from the night.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGmteKJHua-/?taken-by=lupitanyongo&hl=en

Lupita gifts us with a Tonys dress and accessories still life; such exquisite and detailed work.

Glenn Close looks amazing and in a ‘stars they’re just like us’ moment she’s seen her clutching heels rather than wearing them after a big event (I normally last 2 hours, maybe 3 if/when the booze kicks in).

Busy Philipps has the Jane Eyre Olympia Le-Tan book cover clutch and this Bell Jar one (as mentioned in this Tonys post) is my ultimate clutch wish list item.

They didn’t get a chance to work together on The Good Wife, but I am so here for this.

A well earned coffee break on the set of Outlander.

You’re the Worst is now shooting season 3 and I cannot wait for more. Love the slippers, Kether.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGetMZfGtgd/?taken-by=mewins&hl=en

BrainDead started last night and I liked the pilot a bunch; the leads are great and former Good Wife costume designer Daniel Lawson is giving me a whole new blazer wardrobe to covet.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BGnVkd0GRiV/?taken-by=traceeellisross&hl=en

Behind the scenes of this fantastic New York Magazine Tracee Ellis Ross photo shoot gives the bonus of seeing Ross dancing to Beyoncé.
