Out of the Box: Look of the Week

Another busy week for “Out of the Box” featuring summer events, returning shows and Emmy campaigns. The latter already delivering on roundtable discussions bringing joy to my award season loving heart. There was also the CFDA Fashion Awards, which I covered here and June has started well on the fashion front. There was no Americans this week, but Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys did go to the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Saturday and this event always delivers on sunglasses chic and splendid outfits.

Russell goes for another difficult striped Johanna Ortiz once again and once again she pulls it off in effortless style. Pairing it with a crisp white sleeveless shirt is the ideal balance and I’m also applauding the sandals, hat and shades. It is all very cute and seeing this pair outside of their concerned faces on The Americans is always welcome. In more good hat news at the polo is Priyanka Chopra and this whole look feels the most ’90s and I am here for it. Also we all know how happy polka dots make me, so this Altuzarra frock is an instant win.For more on polka dots look no further than Nicole Kidman in Alessandra Rich and this manages to be the most Nicole Kidman and perfect for this summer event.

Orphan Black returns tomorrow (June 10) for its fifth and final season and let it be known that I am feeling a lot of things about this show ending. This cast is always a joy and also I see you retro Strokes tee. And now I’m also sad that I just referred to 2001 as retro.The Emmy FYC events they keep on coming and I love how different the Master of None cast style choices are. Aziz is giving great blazer game, Lena Waithe is continuing this week’s good hat theme and Angela Bassett is Angela Bassett. Stunning as ever.

Bassett also spoke to The Cut about For Your Sweetheart and also about the excellent Master of None Thanksgiving episode she appeared in:

“It was an important episode in terms of young people who are expressing themselves and their sexuality and their acceptance within family, community, or whatever the case may be. I was proud to be able to be a part of that dialogue and express it through art. [Lena and I] didn’t know each other before, but now I’m her mama. I mean her co-mama. I mean her second-in-line mama. All props to her actual mama, because she is a beautiful young lady. The woman that raised her has got to be stunning in her own right. I’m getting chills now, I love her so. It’s a wonderful friendship that emerged from that.”At the Dear White People Emmy FYC event Antoinette Robertson is looking the most ’90s in the best possible way. Extra points for going blue strappy sandals instead of the usual black.Rami gonna Rami (with a shout out to Ilaria) and he does it so well on the red carpet in the perfect example of smart/casual, wearing Burberry at a Mr Robot Emmy event.

Best of the Met Gala 2017: The Americans, Big Little Lies and More

More Met Gala and for the attendees who went big in honoring Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons head here. That’s not to say the second part of this rundown doesn’t feature strong nods to the theme, which definitely has room for interpretation, but there are definitely fewer ‘out there’ looks.

We do have treats from the casts of Big Little Lies, The Americans and some super handsome dudes in suits among others. Getting the best dressed couple title is Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as they mix things up in custom Rag & Bone. The coat tails twist on the lady suit is giving off strong ringmaster vibes and I am super partial to a kilt; this is how to a couples theme without looking too matchy matchy.

Great smoky eyes on Keri Russell too, which adds to the whole effect.

Not one, but three of TV Ate My Wardrobe’s three best dressed dudes all together and super stylist Ilaria Urbinati is good to us. Rami’s red is Dior (obvs), Riz is in also in Dior and Donald (my fave suit of the three) nods to Comme des Garçon in Burberry.

Now someone needs to cast this trifecta of swoon inducing dudes in a movie together. Please and thank you.Michael B. Jordan is another guy you can rely on to avoid the black tux doldrums and this Ralph Lauren plaid number looks fit for Hannibal, which is another way of me saying I love it.Entering the Big Little Lies portion of this post and Reese Witherspoon is serving up Joan Collins levels of dramatic shoulder in asymmetric Mulger playing with form.Zoë Kravitz knows how to make a mark in a romantic custom Oscar de la Renta gown complete with real roses. This manages to be super modern with a classic twist and Kravitz’s new blonde pixie cut gives this an edge.When you worship at the alter of Laura Dern it is fine to ignore that this is one of the many looks that isn’t really going all in on the theme, but between the cutouts and the polka dot train I am obviously here for this custom Gabriela Hearst.Another floral take and Lupita is radiant in coral Prada. Also appearing on Jessica Chastain’s A+ Met Gala Instagram Stories and with Rihanna in the background a good reminder of the film event we could be enjoying in the future.

And because I love a getting ready BTS.An optical illusion from Elizabeth Banks in custom Michael Kors and I am just as mesmerized by the height of her heels. I would also be pulling this face if I was walking up this many stairs in these shoes. A red carpet best from Lena Dunham in gingham Elizabeth Kennedy with a fabulous silhouette, makeup and hair to boot. She also has a pair of boots beneath the layers of fabric.

As was mentioned on Twitter another theme of this Met Gala was people who have previously lamented about how much they hate this event and yet they’re back for more. Ultimate FOMO I guess. This Chanel is beautiful, but definitely more of an award season frock rather than a Met Gala one. But Brie looks great and she also got caught up in this bathroom moment.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

After last week’s color and pattern extravaganza things are slightly more dialed back in this edition of “Out of the Box,” but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Plus there are still plenty of prints on display across various events this week and the Tribeca Film Festival is delivering on a number of sartorial levels.

Between award season faves and new shows getting the promotion treatment there’s a lot to celebrate this week. We also have 2/4 of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants cast, which seemed like something worth pointing out. Viola Davis shut everything down for the second week in a row and on the back of her incredible Time cover she wore this stunning purple Armani gown to the event celebrating this issue/list. Award season has not been over for long, but it is safe to say we’ve been missing the weekly dose of Ruth Negga in these parts. Luckily for us she took a break from filming the second season of Preacher (which I’m really looking forward to) and stopped by the Tiffany & Co 2017 Blue Collection Gala in New York wearing this fabulous Gucci ensemble.

This is ticking so many boxes including a strong collar and all things leopard print.Now entering the Tribeca Film Festival portion of the week and regular readers will know how much I love it when co-stars come out to support each others projects. The Mr. Robot crew seems pretty tight and Rami Malek was joined by his onscreen sister and sorta-BFF at the premiere of his film Buster’s Mal Heart.

They’re also doing a good job on the outfit coordination without being too matchy matchy with Carly Chaikin looking slightly more casual and I am coveting both her clutch and Portia Doubleday’s bag hard.Rami as ever is bringing it with his suit choice and what looks like a classic black take in the first shot is actually hiding the accents stripe down the sleeve; giving it that Rami edge. It is of course Dior Homme and Ilaria Urbinati is the stylist behind this great athleisure adjacent choice.How to do double polka dot by America Ferrera. While moderating a conversation with Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner as part of Tribeca Talks, America Ferrera delivers a great panel outfit and one with a fun 3D texture element. Great chunky silver platforms too. From fantastic shoes to ones I’m going to ignore as the rest of Rose Byrne’s Rag & Bone look is fabulous mixing feminine florals with leather. At the Flower premiere Zoey Deutch goes full Peter Pan collar in this super cute Chloé dress, which is everything I love about the ’70s influence that is still dominating.

I was just scrolling through the new arrivals at Chloé and I am maybe in love with these floral pants. Perhaps because this print is giving me flashbacks to a duvet cover my parents had. Another fun take on leopard print this week with Ruth Wilson in Alessandra Rich, which the belt helpfully points out and also nearly ruins this frock; can we do away with the very Calvin Klein ’90s actual labeling please. Thanks. Alexis Bledel doesn’t make a tonne of red carpet appearances, but when she does she hits all the right notes including this rainbow beaded halter Cushnie et Ochs frock at the premiere for The Handmaid’s Tale. Love, love, love the injection of even more color with the turquoise clutch and yellow sandals.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

Award season is never truly over and the GLAAD Media Awards delivers on some fantastic black and white ensembles. Plus a whole lot of stripes, IRL friendships and some heartbreak in this edition of “Out of the Box.”Judith Light serving up her usual red carpet domination thanks to the drama of the shoulders/abs and that fabulous ring at the GLAAD Media Awards.White gowns were on trend for the Transparent cast and Trace Lysette looks fabulous posing with Moonlight writer Tarell Alvin McCraney as he switches out his white Oscar tux for this dashing number. Moonlight won Outstanding Film and Transparent was awarded Outstanding Comedy Series. While we’re on the subject of dashing and Moonlight here is Trevante Rhodes giving great floral and patterned tie at the GLAAD Media Awards.Tatiana Maslany has done the post-show ending hair chop and I love this length on her. Going for a fun spin on the ladysuit with a tee and fancy shoes; plus some pins supporting great causes.

The ‘&’ pin is from GLAAD and was worn by many in attendance. The other is for Planned Parenthood and can be purchased here; there’s a lot of great pins at the moment and ones which raise awareness and funds are even better.

In keeping with the Planned Parenthood theme as this tank by Otherwild also includes a donation. This photo was taken by Tatiana Maslany’s Orphan Black co-star Kristian Bruun and is classic casual Maslany. Also her hair continues to look great.More in the co-stars hanging out department with the Mr Robot siblings at the Montblanc and UNICEF gala dinner at the New York Public Library (what a location to have a dinner). Rami Malek takes his shirt game to the next level and once again Ilaria Urbinati gives him a great suit to wear.

I also sometimes forget that Malek and Carly Chaikin aren’t really brother and sister because look at them. Good work Mr Robot casting team.

Big Little Lies is all I can think about (for my deep dive into the Audrey Hepburn costumes head here) and the IRL friendship between Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern is everything. Reese gifted us with four different shots of them on the beach and yes this is my current phone lock screen photo.Sarah Steele makes everything better and I’m so glad they brought Marissa Gold back for the The Good Fight. At the Speech & Debate premiere Steele does the whole casual cool vibe and this is a fun take on stripes that I now definitely want in my closet.

I am very excited about The Handmaid’s Tale adaptation and all the Elisabeth Moss this is going to give us on the promo tour. Not to mention that we’ve got a second Top of the Lake season to look forward to. This Michael Kors ensemble gives great stripes and also showcases how great stylist Karla Welch’s eye is.At Kimmel (not in the outfit she wore on the show) and Jenny Slate is clearly loving her Rachel Comey shoes (the TV Ate My Wardrobe jury is still out). The rest of Slate’s outfit makes me want to drink cocktails somewhere in Cape Cod and I’m also thrilled to see a regular looking shirt after reading this recent Racked piece. And as the Fug Girls like to say; everyone looks hotter in sunglasses.The end of this week’s “Out of the Box” is sponsored by all the feelings and great outfits. The SAG Awards delivered on both speeches and fashion this weekend and on this week’s “Out of the Box” we’ve got a whole lot of great outfits from the Entertainment Weekly pre-SAG party with a dash of the PGA Awards, the beginning of the end for Girls, a new campaign and a very important announcement.Yara Shahidi was our best dressed at the SAG Awards in an incredible striped Naeem Khan frock and at the pre-SAG EW party she went in a very different, but just as fun direction. All baby blues from eye makeup to the abstract print matching Sophie Theallet shirt and pants.For all things wacky and delightful look no further than Kristen Schaal and her amazing kitty dress. I love everything about this. Also super cute gold shoes that I would like in my life.Malin Akerman serving up full shoulder drama in metallic striped Zhivago and this is the kind of dress you wear when you want to throw a drink in someone’s face. Or just look cool as fuck.Patterned ladysuit alert with Grace Byers going full plunge in Keti Chkhikvadze and in very cute dress news we have Candice Patton in Tommy Hilfiger. That collar is everything (and now I am looking at dresses on the Tommy Hilfiger website and am very tempted by this).While I very much preferred both Vanessa Kirby and Claire Foy’s SAG ceremony outfits, I also couldn’t pass up this opportunity to post this picture of a much happier (and more alive in some cases) family from The Crown. Lipstick points for Kirby and Foy too.The Stranger Things cast tends to be split between the kids and the teens when posing for photos; here at the EW party Natalia Dyer instead hangs with her onscreen younger brother and his friends and once again the boys look super swish in their suits. Especially Caleb McLaughlin in bow tie and waistcoat. Dyer’s super floral mini is another very cute Miu Miu and this brand is working like a charm on her.Dancing cuties and Stranger Things meets Black-ish. Blue shoes are a must at the pre-SAG party for Caleb McLaughlin and Miles Brown.More fabulous shoes and moves from the boys at a SAG after party and they’re joined by Janelle Monàe.And now with Samira Wiley and the rest of the Stranger Things kids. Post awards dancing photos are the best.The night before the SAGs Rami Malek went a little more classic in his choice of Dior suit and he also appears to have adopted the signature Eddie Redmayne lean.Going full Friends cast shot as The Hollywood Reporter celebrates Girls with an oral history and a cover featuring the core cast. This is a really well styled shoot and I now have Lost in Translation like questions as I wonder what Adam Driver is whispering into Andrew Rannells’ ear. Kenzo’s new Spring 2017 campaign features Tracee Ellis Ross, Jesse Williams and cellist/singer Kelsey Lu. A short film called “Music is My Mistress” will be released next Thursday (February 9) and if these print ads are any indication it is going to be pretty special.And in other fantastic campaign news; here is Yara Shahidi for Ivy Park and this oversized sweater/short shorts look is great. Shahidi appeared in Lemonade and re-teaming with Beyoncé for her clothing brand makes so much sense.

Best of the 2017 SAG Red Carpet: Suits, Velvet and More

Now for part 2 of the TV Ate My Wardrobe SAG coverage. For speech highlights and all things that sparkle head here. On the menu we have plenty of suits, a whole lot velvet, the kids from Stranger Things and some classic style. Maisie Williams looks like a 1940s movie starlet in a light pink satin Charlie Brear dress and now I want to see her in something set in this period.

Also, thanks to Racked for this lipstick post which includes details of how to get Maisie (and Evan Rachel Wood’s) killer lip color. More ladysuit goodness from Evan Rachel Wood and this time she has opted for a midnight blue double-breasted velvet by Altuzarra. This kicks off the big velvet trend of the night and I am all for this material making a comeback.Queen Judith Light also taking in the blue velvet (*cue song*) and crushing it in Tom Ford.Newly engaged Kirsten Dunst (sadly no Jesse Plemons on the red carpet) looks like she might have wedding dresses on her mind and this Dior would work down the aisle, but isn’t so bridal that it is out of place here. The combination of the statement necklaces and metallic straps works like a charm.Sarah Paulson has been all about the sparkles of late, but for the SAG awards she went classic in a black strapless Vera Wang dress and an amazing ivory cape. Red lipstick and big earrings are the way to go here.

I mentioned it in the first post already and yet it is worth repeating that in Sarah Paulson’s speech she mentioned donating to the ACLU and you can do that here.Another speech I highlighted in part 1 of this SAG coverage was Mahershala Ali’s, which is both emotional and important. Ali continues his super suave domination and this time he wears a Ermenegildo Zegna Couture white tuxedo.More velvet and all the swoons because Michiel Huisman.An Ilaria Urbinati double bill coming your way and first up Rami Malek in a Dior suit that stands out and works because he is Rami Malek.A touch of velvet is sometimes all you need as Riz Ahmed shows with the lapels on his Zegna tux.For delightfully classic in his tuxedo choice there is Glenn Powell.The most overt political statement on the SAG red carpet came from Big Bang Theory’s Simon Helberg and wife Jocelyn Towne who wore her feelings across her chest. Kudos to them for not keeping quiet and using this very public opportunity to demonstrate. It feels weird to bring fashion into this moment, but Helberg is also doing the velvet thing and it looks great on him. Leopard print ladysuit! And Amy Landecker wasn’t the only person wearing this bold St John number and leopard continues to dominate. More blue velvet too from the Transparent cast and Alexandra Billings’ feather touch is fabulous. Oh hey Jay, you look lovely too.Barb got to come play! Stranger Things teens (well one of them is still a teen in this case – looking at you Shannon Purser) and the height of Joe Keery’s hair is maybe bigger than Jean Ralphio’s and I don’t know how that is possible. Natalia Dyer’s custom Miu Miu is both delicate and bold and I love that Shannon Purser has gone full black gown and red lip.Stranger Things kids continue to have the most fun and somehow it is still super charming. They’re also still some of the best dressed people on the red carpet in brands that are affordable (see Finn Wolfhard’s teal Topman suit) and on the splurge end with Millie Bobby Brown in red Armani.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

Coats, coats, coats are on the “Out of the Box” menu as Sundance continues and Paris Fashion Week also delivers in the outerwear department. Currently I am cocooned in knitwear so anything intended for a cold climate is a welcome sight. And with the winter weather this week comes a whole variety of black attire; both classic and somber in places. This makes sense, all things considered. Great coat, sunglasses and red lipstick (and engagement ring, which can be seen here) from Kirsten Dunst at the Dior show on Monday during Paris Fashion Week. It might be cheesy to use the word chic here, but eh I’m gonna dive into the fromage as she looks chic af. In Paris a few days earlier at the Dior Homme Menswear show new face of Dior Rami Malek also gave great coat. Malek is one of the guys who features most on these pages because of his style and this brand pairing makes so much sense. Rami also crushes the patterned sweater/shirt look.I said there would be more Sundance coats and at the Vulture Sundance Spot Abbi Jacobson and Tavi Gevinson dropped by in some great outerwear while promoting Person to Person. Long and slightly oversized coats have been on trend this year and it is a great mix of effortless with smart. Gevinson’s scarf game is also top notch.

And over at Elle and Bustle they have interviews with Jacobson (Bustle gets Gevinson too) that are very relevant to my interests including how Broad City will address this current political climate.

Starting with his much needed moment of comic relief from “Hack into Broad City” from last Friday.The coats they keep on coming and at the ‘Power Of Story: Art Of Episodic Storytelling’ panel Issa Rae also sartorially delivers on the outerwear with plaid crossed with what looks like the inside of a beehive.Hannah Simone goes classic at the Band Aid premiere in Alice + Olivia off the shoulder dress. I’m excited for Band Aid and not just because it makes me instantly think of Almost Famous and it was written/directed by Simone’s New Girl co-star Zoe Lister Jones with an entirely female crew. Plus it sounds like it is a lot of fun, which is always welcome.Zoe Lister Jones also stars in her directorial debut and she stopped by the IMDb studio in an ensemble which continues to add to my theory that Sundance has my ideal wardrobe. Another black dress but getting an oomph of color with a bold red collar. Also black patent shoes that give me so much envy as I was never allowed this style when I was a kid. The reason; I would scuff them and considering the state of all my shoes, my mother was right. But I can but dream.A black turtleneck sweater dress is another classic closet must have and Connie Britton is all over this while promoting Cast Change. Manicure and earrings are also fabulous.Continuing her patterned dresses with a late ’60s/early ’70s vibe and Chloë Sevigney adds a bit of sequin sparkle to the Beatriz At Dinner premiere and I love everything about this.Morgan Saylor is flying into outer space in very cute Miu Miu at the Novitiate premiere and this is another case where I get to sing the praises of black tights. Although I do worry her arms are cold. I have a black pair of shoes very much like the burgundy ones Saylor is wearing and now I am coveting this color too. Bonus lipstick and manicure points.One of the most talked about movies coming out of Sundance this year is Call Me By My Name and it is one love story that I cannot wait to see. Star Armie Hammer is all slinged up due to a torn pectoral muscle and he’s ticking all the sweater boxes in fuzzy stripes.Now for something more formal in the black dress department with Naomie Harris at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards in Dior that looks super cozy (if not a little chilly in the arm department). Adding a splash of pink and gold makes this so much more than just a safe choice. And this is in part why Harris graces these pages so often; there’s always something that stands out.Full ’90s nostalgia feelings right down to Ewan McGregor’s Adidas trainers and Kelly Macdonald’s silk dress at the Trainspotting T2 premire. Great lipstick choice from Macdonald too.

Best of the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet

On the awards show rankings the Critics’ Choice Awards are mid-table at best, but they definitely deliver on the red carpet front and they happen to come nice and early in the cycle. Plus the combination of TV and film means this is a rather long round-up featuring ladysuits, so many florals, dudes in colorful/playful suits and some daring patterns.

Oh and the Golden Globe nominations will be announced later today!Evan Rachel Wood has given us A+ cowgirl chic this year and she’s also high up on the #LadySuitWatch2016 rankings as she has delivered all year. Rounding 2016 out with this classic black belted Altuzarra stunner and I am full heart eyes for this.Janelle Monáe goes big in a fantastic Nicci Hou gown that is giving me Alice in Wonderland adjacent vibes. Great lipstick choice too.Love, love, love Portia Doubleday serving up glitzy futuristic seventies vibes in this long sleeve Jenny Packham number. Quickly followed by a gown that totally complements it and I would love to see Doubleday standing next to Allison Williams decked out in Balmain Resort; perhaps in a Studio 54 inspired shoot. Hitting the floral portion of the red carpet and this is also a good time to say how much I love Edge of Seventeen and Hailee Steinfeld’s performance. This is a really fabulous Jason Wu gown and Steinfeld gets double bonus points because pockets and red lipstick.A playful twist on the botanic theme and there is so much about this Delpozo frock that shouldn’t work including the jagged hemline, but it looks fantastic on Gillian Jacobs.Constance Wu demonstrates another fun structured take on flowers in Johanna Ortiz Resort and the splash of red on both the gown and with her lipstick really makes this pop.This is Us star Chrissy Metz also delivers strong on this very on trend pattern with a spin that feels winter appropriate. A striking mix of pink and red for Cynthia Nixon that stands out from all the blue on this red (okay it is actually blue) carpet.Viola Davis looks super sophisticated in a sparkly Michael Kors column dress and she never disappoints. Glad she has such a strong awards presence this year for both TV and movies.Now this is a power couple I want to see on screen with two very fun takes on the whole white dress thing that goes beyond bridal with Sarah Paulson in embellished Vera Wang and Amanda Peet in black and white. Both ladies also go bold with their lip color, much to my delight. Maura Tierney gives casual cool ladysuit vibes in Styland and this pairing is giving me so many E.R. related feelings. Everything looks so much happier IRL for this pair; Shiri Appleby in a sparkly Monique Lhuillier and Constance Zimmer’s sleek John Paul Ataker dress perfectly complement each other.The Stranger Things kids double down on their style domination and replace Jacob Tremblay as the kid to watch on this red carpet this year. And Rami Malek continues his forever streak (hat tip to Ilaria Urbinati) of wearing interesting ensembles on the red carpet; this time in velvet green Burberry and Louboutin shoes.James Marsden goes big in Salvatore Ferragamo and over the years he has shown how fond he is of grey plaid; we are very much here for this choice and the level of appreciation he is getting this year.Leaving on this because feelings and Sterling K. Brown is another dude who delivers on the non-black suit thing.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

There were a lot of great outfits at the Hollywood Reporter’s celebration of women in entertainment and as there was so many I dedicated a whole post to this event.

There’s more to celebrate on this week’s “Out of the Box” including a fantastic start to Vogue’s 2017 magazine run, a night dedicated to Carolina Herrera, more yellow dress delights and a Mr. Robot family reunion.Vogue kicks off their 2017 issues with this Ruth Negga stunner in Alexander Wang rose print and this is another case where shoulder cutouts aren’t distracting me from how great everything is.

Negga recently appeared in Vogue editorial with Loving co-star Joel Edgerton. Considering how fantastic that shoot was it isn’t surprising they asked Negga to come back in this starring capacity (although the close release between issues made this a happy surprise to see her on the cover).An Evening Honoring Carolina Herrera means lots of Carolina Herrera gowns and Emmy Rossum in this black and white gingham number is ticking so many boxes. It also reminds me of Lizzy Caplan’s Lela Rose fave from last year and I am a sucker for this classic picnic adjacent print. Now for something super pretty and Emily Robinson looks fancy festive party appropriate.Going for gold and Julianna Margulies is a long time Carolina Herrera wearer and here she is with hot husband (in a fantastic coat) Keith Lieberthal. Great berry lipstick choice to up the drama factor.Another perfect La La Land yellow dress reminder from Emma Stone and I am also full heart eyes over this Rochas frock and red lipstick combo. Ryan Gosling is look all kinds of handsome as they both do the hand and footprint in cement thing at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. A picture of Mr. Robot family happiness at the GQ and AG dinner in LA with a whole lot of black and white casual outfit coordinating from Rami Malek, Carly Chaikin and Christian Slater.

Best of the 2016 Emmys: Shimmer, Black and White

Continuing our Emmy style rundown and this second bumper post gives great sparkle. Plus the many different interpretations of how to wear black and white on the red carpet.Getting 70s disco vibes from Constance Wu in J. Mendel and after Sarah Paulson’s Prada, this is my favorite look of the night.Judith fucking Light. Always amazing. No exceptions. Orange is the New Black was pretty much shutout this year, but Laverne Cox is giving statuette realness is Naeem Khan.Claire Danes might want to tone down the tan/bronzer, but her Schiaparelli super sparkly number is a stunner.Taraji P. Henson changed it all up for presenting and I think I like this look even more than the yellow dress. Sequins and that hairstyle continue the nod to the 70s.The Stranger Things kids are adorable and need to be protected at all costs. Also continuing the trend of dressing better than a lot of adults, particularly in the tux department (see also Jacob Tremblay). Millie Bobby Brown put a bird on it in Red Valentino and this is the perfect brand for her.A very romantic looking Zuhair Murad floral gown for Kristen Bell and this is giving me all the heart eyes.Another knockout choice from Yara Shahidi and a Clara Rotescu dress that also gave great twirl/floating style.Everything about Tracee Ellis in this pose and Ralph Lauren dress is incredibly regal. The Americans sadly didn’t win, but Holly Taylor combines great sparkle with white in custom Theia Couture. Rami Malek in a white Dior tux jacket is showing why he was on our most anticipated list.Rami’s not the only one crushing the white tux jacket look and Tituss Burgess also came with a strong shoe and bow tie game.A sheer frock I don’t hate! Sophie Turner delivers a miracle in Valentino.And even more sheer that I like! Julia Louis-Dreyfus gave a heart crushing speech as her dad passed away on Friday, which left me pretty much sobbing into my wine.Sequins really were the big style winner of the night and America Ferrera’s Jenny Packham frock is another evening high point.Kerry Washington is never boring on the red carpet and she’s wearing a show stopping Brandon Maxwell number coupled with hair that takes me back to Olivia Pope hanging out on a tropical beach.
