Continuing our Emmy style rundown and this second bumper post gives great sparkle. Plus the many different interpretations of how to wear black and white on the red carpet.Getting 70s disco vibes from Constance Wu in J. Mendel and after Sarah Paulson’s Prada, this is my favorite look of the night.
Judith fucking Light. Always amazing. No exceptions.
Orange is the New Black was pretty much shutout this year, but Laverne Cox is giving statuette realness is Naeem Khan.
Claire Danes might want to tone down the tan/bronzer, but her Schiaparelli super sparkly number is a stunner.
Taraji P. Henson changed it all up for presenting and I think I like this look even more than the yellow dress. Sequins and that hairstyle continue the nod to the 70s.
The Stranger Things kids are adorable and need to be protected at all costs. Also continuing the trend of dressing better than a lot of adults, particularly in the tux department (see also Jacob Tremblay). Millie Bobby Brown put a bird on it in Red Valentino and this is the perfect brand for her.
A very romantic looking Zuhair Murad floral gown for Kristen Bell and this is giving me all the heart eyes.
Another knockout choice from Yara Shahidi and a Clara Rotescu dress that also gave great twirl/floating style.
Everything about Tracee Ellis in this pose and Ralph Lauren dress is incredibly regal.
The Americans sadly didn’t win, but Holly Taylor combines great sparkle with white in custom Theia Couture.
Rami Malek in a white Dior tux jacket is showing why he was on our most anticipated list.
Rami’s not the only one crushing the white tux jacket look and Tituss Burgess also came with a strong shoe and bow tie game.
A sheer frock I don’t hate! Sophie Turner delivers a miracle in Valentino.
And even more sheer that I like! Julia Louis-Dreyfus gave a heart crushing speech as her dad passed away on Friday, which left me pretty much sobbing into my wine.
Sequins really were the big style winner of the night and America Ferrera’s Jenny Packham frock is another evening high point.
Kerry Washington is never boring on the red carpet and she’s wearing a show stopping Brandon Maxwell number coupled with hair that takes me back to Olivia Pope hanging out on a tropical beach.
Best of the 2016 Emmys: Shimmer, Black and White
19 SepOut of the Box: Look of the Week
1 AprSpring is here and the red carpet is awash with florals and bold patterns at the premieres for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Confirmation. Don’t ditch the coats just yet though as the weather has a habit of turning in an instant and there is also fabulous outerwear among the pretty dresses this week. Plus more magazine cover sensations, talk show entrance attire and the FX Upfronts.Kimmy Schmidt has one of television’s brightest wardrobes and star Ellie Kemper doesn’t disappoint in a very cute Tanya Taylor floral mini-dress, which works wonders against the pink backdrop and purple carpet.
Speaking of bold turns and Tituss Burgess lights up the purple carpet in a look that makes me want to crack open a bottle of Pinot by Tituss to celebrate. Kimmy Schmidt returns in 2 weeks (April 15) for season 2. Now to see if I can finish Daredevil before then.
Another floral sensation with Kerry Washington in romantic Dolce & Gabbana at the Confirmation premiere (airing Saturday, April 16). My only quibble is it could do with being slightly shorter as it is a tad overwhelming, but on the whole this is a style which we have seen Washington nail on multiple occasions; embracing print sets her apart from the character we see on a weekly basis.
Hypnotic black and white flower power from Regina King and the only thing this really needs is perhaps a bolder lip color, but that tends to be my answer to enhance any outfit.
How to take a feature from a paint program and turn it into an excellent outfit; Zendaya’s color palette mosaic bodice and matching skirt lining is a welcome addition to this week’s bold looks and the Confirmation red carpet delivers on an array of striking ensembles.
Double Sarah Paulson this week and first up wearing Philosophy at the FX Upfront The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story screening. Her hair looks really great here (Marcia Clark hair essay plug!) and upfronts fall into the TCA/PaleyFest dress code where there isn’t really one, but you don’t want to go too fancy or shabby. Paulson straddles this middle ground here. The blue heart pendant is a nice touch with this plunging neckline; a subtle nod to her favorite emoji?
Borrowing a coat from her onscreen mom’s wardrobe is Holly Taylor also at the FX Upfront screening and this Coach tan trench is going to be making an appearance this season on The Americans (we have already seen the black version). Adding a touch of sophistication over her black crop top and jeans casual cool ensemble.
Tatiana Maslany is a woman after my own heart and as she makes her way into The Late Show with Stephen Colbert heels in hand and yellow sneakers on her feet.
Sarah Paulson Part II – also appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and while I’m not totally on board with whatever is going on at the bottom of this dress, the plaid coat with leather lapels is more than making up it.
Get on my coffee table The Gentlewoman, because woah is this cover shot and yellow/black and white pairing so goddamn good.
Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set
9 MarLast week’s Instagram round-up included the last of this award season, but there are still plenty of behind the scenes treats this week including excellent guest stars, fabulous outfits and shows starting production for their new seasons.
90s nostalgia continues to dominate and the new Cruel Intentions and subsequent casting has hit me right in the sweet spot. And I can guarantee that now I’ve mentioned this project I will be listening to the soundtrack later today.
Best Broad City guest star (Part 1).
Best Broad City guest star (Part 2).
Award season might be over, but thanks to The Last Man on Earth we still get this week’s dose of Jacob Tremblay being adorable. Well a slightly potty mouth version of Tremblay, but still adorable.
Whenever I see Mindy Kaling with Ellie Kemper I have a sudden hankering to watch Subtle Sexuality so I’ll be back in a moment… Also excellent outfits on both ladies.
First UnREAL table read for season 2 and I maybe just read Quinn as ‘Queen’ and that also works.
This also has me VERY excited.
Celebrating International Women’s Day on The Good Wife with lots of lady love.
Cuteness overload on the Elementary set. Random aside, but Lucy Liu’s guest appearance on Girls is definitely one of the TV moments of this week.
Priyanka Chopra took over the Tonight Show Instagram and this delightful photo with Questlove.
Crushing it for Essence magazine is Danielle Brooks and this cover shot is also incredible.
There was an homage to Scandal on this week’s Jane the Virgin and I wonder if The Americans is getting this treatment next if these wiggy pictures are anything to go by.
This is certainly a look and probably not one that is good for spy work.
Best TV show tie-in.
Excellent outfit ahoy!
There is still plenty of getting ready for photo shoot shots to behold and this one of Greta Gerwig is stunning.
And stylist Ilaria Urbinati still has a whole lot of fittings to do even after the last Oscar gown has been hung up and I can’t wait to see who will wear these beautiful clothes.

16 DecStar Wars is taking over this week and we’ve got more photos from the cast on their epic promotional journey. Plus plenty of TV action including a Jessica Jones treat hidden in the middle as it is guest star spoilery, an Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt singalong and the Orange is the New Black ladies coming out in force to support one of their own on Broadway.
Starting with something very cool this week and a super mesmerizing video of Lupita Nyong’o for The Guardian. Getting a whole lot of turtleneck joy from this outfit.
Lupita looked like a knockout at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens world premiere on Monday and here is a selection of the earrings she got to choose between to add even more sparkle to her ensemble.
Like everything about this press tour so far this photo is just so much fun. More outfit awesome from Lupita.
The Jane the Virgin mid-season finale made me cry (standard) and this is a whole lot of camo leggings on display.
Best renewal news as The Leftovers will be back for a third and final season, which gives Justin Theroux a chance to flex his new Instagram muscles (dude is already a pro). I love that the hair and makeup team are all wearing Guilty Remnant like attire.
Things are a lot better between this pair in real life than for their onscreen counterparts. So much so that Justin Theroux has begun to morph into Liv Tyler’s head.
Speaking of co-stars hanging out – the Orange is the New Black ladies turned out in force for Danielle Brooks’ big Broadway opening night for The Color Purple and this video is giving me so many feelings.
As with their OITNB behind the scenes shots these ladies are all about the Insta sharing and it was impossible to choose just one.
And here is another delight.
More big Martha hair on The Americans and what must be one of many cans of hairspray they get through in creating these updos.
Want a tour of the New Girl set? Well Jake Johnson has just the thing for you. You might need to slow it down to get a glimpse of everyone/everything.
Nadia is coming back to New Girl! This outfit/hairstyle is magnificent.
America Ferrera looking terrific for the crazy early Golden Globes announcement (my live stream kept buffering so I didn’t get to see a whole lot of Ferrera presenting, I did get to see Dennis Quaid pronounce “Saoirse”) and this dress definitely falls into the ‘perfect for announcing award nominations’ category (if there is one).
So this is definitely a guest star spoiler which is why I have buried it in the middle of the post and I love how Jessica Jones got their Daredevil fill in this way. Firstly we need more Rosario Dawson on TV and secondly it worked very well for the narrative. And look how happy they both are.
Daily Show musical delights courtesy of Jessica Williams.
While I would love to see this show get awards love, I can’t be too mad about the snub when they post stuff like this.
Broad City is going to have a very special guest in season 3, but all of my questions from this shot are to do with the many pencils in Ilana’s hair.
The Flash looking very moody and in a location that has probably featured on The X-Files.
Once again the main reason I will be watching Grease: Live is for all things Kether Donohue.
This was meant to go up in last week’s post and it is just too good to let go; who wouldn’t want to watch The Wiz with the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt team?!
Julianna Margulies delivering super fierce face in this behind the scenes shot from the Good Wife winter finale.
And because I am constantly wondering where Robyn is – now Jason has gone can she come back please? – here is Jess Weixler looking stunning on her wedding day (ditto Jessica Chastain) and this is giving me wedding dress ideas (which I really need to start thinking about).
Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Emmys
22 SepA special Emmys “Behind the Insta-Scenes” with TV stars documenting the whole process from pre-parties, getting ready rituals to the day after.
The Orange is the New Black cast are a regular fixture on this column and they really have the whole Emmy weekend covered; it is good to see this much enthusiasm not just for their show, but the whole experience. For anyone that wants a break from all things Emmys the standard TV Instagram will appear as usual tomorrow.

One fun thing about having so many TV stars in the same place is the random group photos; case in point and Gwendoline Christie looks like a very proud mother.
Sometimes they give us ideas of actors who should star in something together or which shows should do a crossover.
And of course there are reunions that make your heart melt.
Dream Scandal guest stars alert.
Kerry Washington has an extra pair of paws to help her get ready.
https://instagram.com/p/73bbY9nLrU/?taken-by=hereisgina
Plenty of accessorizes and boob wrangling choices to choose from.
As with many stars who hit the Emmy red carpet Jessica Williams gives a well deserved shout out to her glam squad and this is a really stunning photo.
Coffee is just as vital pre show as it is the day after. Filming an unaware Taraji P. Henson has turned into a bit of a sport.
The same could be said for dancing in the mirror.
Meanwhile some of the Game of Thrones cast were too busy working on the new season to join the party. Now can someone zoom in on the script text and see what it says.
I’m still very firmly on the fence about January Jones’ jumpsuit but her Insta game is always strong.
Yep.
Pretty frocks and stair hanging out; for some reason this is giving me album cover vibes, butt needs more pouting.
Lots of people in this ballroom and the Orange is the New Black cast have not let us down when it comes to capturing every moment.
There were of course lots of winners. And sometimes winners gatecrashing other winners.
Denial is useful and also hilarious.
And sometimes losing just plain sucks.

See Veep really did win a lot and this is either a table of awards or a whole lot of intricate weaponry.
Peter Dinklage has chosen to show off Maisie Williams’ amazing penguin tux clutch instead of his Emmy. I mean his Emmy isn’t dressed this fancy so this is a solid decision.
Uzo Aduba knows how to get the party started in a sea of other pink dresses.
More pink dress glory and I love that these two are besties in real life.
https://instagram.com/p/756Jp_JqAK/?taken-by=daniebb3
This dress really is a posing dream.
The morning after coffee is also hella important. And sunglasses.
JLaw proving once again why she is fantasy BFF material. Another tick in the box for day after awards show sunglasses.
