Sandy Powell’s costume design in Carol has very much left its mark and while most of the attention has been placed on the standout pieces which Cate Blanchett as the titular character wore – and rightly so as they are incredibly captivating – it is actually Rooney Mara’s Therese Belivet who really caught my eye. Yes Carol gets to wear the most sumptuous items which make her the focal point of any shot, but it is Therese’s style which feels like it could easily be transferred from 1950s New York to now and that is why I have become slightly obsessed by it. Seriously I need her polka dot pajamas and winter coat in my life. And also her hat (especially as it is finally getting colder).
Which brings me to Gilmore Girls and right on schedule after mentioning how I needed to get back to watching this show for the first time, I did so this morning and much to my delight Rory ends up wearing something very Therese. It is in a completely different context and the item in question is meant to be a comedic focal point at first. Rory is joining her grandfather at his fancy golf club for some bonding time (and so she can choose a team sport for her fancy new school) and she doesn’t really have any golf attire; she dresses in a simple lilac shirt and beige chinos – how very 2000. Her grandmother gives her a colorful striped bobble beret and there might have been a slight yelp of excitement from my end when Rory puts it on.
This is the hat worn by Rooney Mara as Therese in Carol and the very first still I saw of Mara in the film. Like Carol and Therese across a department store floor, I fell in love in an instant.
And this is Rory’s, which caused the yelp of Carol related recognition joy.
Vertical versus horizontal stripes, but other than that I don’t think it is a reach in seeing a similarity; this isn’t just a case of wearing Carol tinted costumed design glasses.
Give her a hair chop, a camera and the right winter coat and she’s pretty much there as Luke’s place has a very retro feel to it.
As the episode progresses and Rory feels more comfortable in her environment she warms to her new headwear and she only takes it off when her mother makes fun of it. Lorelai later contends that it is “kinda cute” but this conversation is about far more than knitted berets. That will be saved for when I discuss this episode and others with Julie Hammerle in our TV Rewind series. I personally heart the hat as my notes so vehemently say and this is why there is a whole post dedicated toward it. Now to find a version of my own.

As this is the first post of 2016 it is time to shake off those writing cobwebs and look to the year ahead after spending so much time looking at the one we just had. I’m not one for specific resolutions and September feels as much like a new start as January does (for more on that read this), but there are some things I want to think about in terms of what is to come and what I would like to do in this shiny new year.
First of all this is going to be a huge year for me on a personal level as I am getting married this year. This means I have to finally stop calling watching marathons of Say Yes to the Dress ‘research’ and actually get out there and find a dress. I’m not someone who has all the details of this garment or day planned to a meticulous level (far from it) and I knew that going from “I’m getting married next year” to “I’m getting married this year” would definitely cause momentary panic.
There is still a lot to plan and I know my strengths do not lie in this kind of organizing, luckily the guy I am marrying is much more adept in this area; however I have to remember that there is also much for me to do beyond flicking through a few magazines or making jokes about getting inspiration from Marnie’s forthcoming wedding on Girls. I’m sure there will be more on this during the year (including dress photos after the day) and while it does feel very daunting, I also can’t wait.
Then comes the career* orientated resolutions and turning my general weekly note to myself that I need to pitch more to outer outlets into an actual thing. TV Ate My Wardrobe is the safe space in that it is mine and I can come here and just post whatever. There’s no emailing, waiting and worrying about rejection. This blog is something I am incredibly proud of, but I also know that I need to push myself more and stop getting in my own way. The underwear piece I did for Flavorwire is one of the best writing experiences I have ever had; I got to talk to three incredible costume designers and while it was nerve wracking it was also very rewarding. I need to do more of that and by writing about this on such a public forum I hope to remind myself that pitching is something I should be spending more time doing. I was better at doing this stuff in 2015 than I was in 2014, but there is still ways to go.
*Note – Using this photo of Serena when she had assumed Gossip Girl blogging duties because of how similar her writing attire is to mine (because who doesn’t wear that many necklaces while typing) and because I found that storyline way more amusing than I probably should. I also spent way too long on Netflix looking for this screencap so I had to use it.
Some other things are just generally related to TV habits and pretty much remembering there is no way to watch everything, because #PeakTV. Sometimes it feels like you are missing out on what everyone is talking about, but there are not enough hours in the day to watch every single BIG show.
Last week I started both Making a Murderer and Mr Robot with one being a much talked about show over the summer and the other being the hot topic over the festive break. Staying up to date is kinda important when writing about something like television, but there is also no point in stressing out over the ever growing list of ‘must see TV’ (feeling so NBC 90s right now).
While I’m on the subject of TV to watch in 2016 there are some old shows on the list including Gilmore Girls which I need to get back to for TV Rewind (and because those first two episodes made me want to watch a lot more) as I know my co-writer in all of this, Julie Hammerle is now definitely ahead of me. I blame the two shows I mentioned above for derailing my plans to watch more over the holidays. There are also things like Outlander which is very much at the top of the “To Watch” list before the new season begins. Also the stack of books I got for Christmas would very much like to be read (along with the other stacks sitting on my bedside table – pretty much need Hermione’s time turner necklace or the About Time power). Plus there is the exciting X-Files revival and other favorites such as The Americansand Broad City returning in the next few months.
So here’s to an exciting year and one I can’t wait to share with you all!

Best ‘For Your Consideration’ Ad
Somehow Gina Rodriguez did not get nominated for an Emmy this year, which based on her performance and this incredible ‘For Your Consideration’ ad blows my mind. Ladysuit excellence.
Best Twirl
Another fantastic year for Lupita Nyong’o on the red carpet and in fashionmagazines with this Gucci dress twirl at Cannes giving plenty of 2014 Oscar flashbacks. Plus it proves that if you wear pleats there will always be the urge to whirl. Now for someone to cast her in a lead role please.
Best Peplum
It is well documented that I have jumpsuit issues (more on myself than anyone else) and adding peplum opens up a whole world of potential concerns, but this Roksanda number (a brand we heart) is beating the odds and it might help that Tatiana Maslany is the one wearing it. The red pumps do clash with the colored waistband, but this is totally working for me.
Best White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner
Mixing 70s cool with Old Hollywood glam in Peter Pilotto at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner is Gillian Jacobs showing exactly why she is an “Out of the Box” regular.
Best Ladies on a Ladysuit
Or rather Mae Whitman wears the “Boob Suit” by Rachel Antonoff at a Refinery 29 event and I adore the irreverence of the ensemble. Whitman is killing it with her red lipstick choice and Mamie Gummer’s coat skirts bathrobe territory without stepping on the Dude’s toes. Excellent boots and jeans pairing.
Best Floral
2015 is the year we said goodbye to TV Ate My Wardrobe style icon April Ludgate, but there is still plenty of Aubrey Plaza sartorial brilliance including this color blast floral Suno mini dress at the Independent Spirit Awards.
This year has been awash with a lot of bad sheer; turning a good outfit into a scrolldown nightmare. However, there are always exceptions to the rule such as this Valentino starry eyed number and Naomie Harris crushed the Spectre promo tour.
Best Magazine Cover Part 2
Fashion was all about the 70s and I don’t think I need to mention again how much I adore the looks from this decade, but this WSJ Carey Mulligan cover/editorial is pretty much the dream. Also more Valentino with this jacket and across the two Out of the Box Best of 2015 posts they are the most featured brand. Good work, Valentino!
Best Black and White
Another year of Kiernan Shipka dressing much better than me and it is hard to believe she only turned 16 last month. This Interview shot captures her fashion cool without a) dressing her older than her age and b) putting her in something she wouldn’t actually wear.
Most on Point Dress Part 2
This is still the photo on my phone lockscreen and I can’t get enough of Gwendoline Christie in her Captain Phasma infused Giles Deacon dress for the ‘Force 4 Fashion’ Bloomingdales charity event.
Best Sundance Cool
Jessica Williams is still our favorite Daily Show correspondent and she is also slaying on the Sundance portrait front showing off the vital boots/tights/thick socks combination.
Most Precarious Walk
Less weather appropriate is Keri Russell in a very snowy/icy New York on her way to The Today Show back in January. I could barely walk in these Alaïa sandals in the best weather conditions and it would very much be a Bambi on ice situation. The rest of the outfit is terrific including the rose covered Victoria Beckham skirt and there are strong coat feelings going on right now. If only it was currently cold enough to wear outerwear like this.
Best Couple
Pushing recent tabloid rumors aside it has been another really strong year for Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson on the red carpet. This is another occasion of Kruger as the Magical Fashion Unicorn as I’m not sure there are many who could pull off this cutout vintage Roland Mouret ensemble and Joshua Jackson scrubs up nicely at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. Let’s hope there is more of this in 2016.
Best TCA Pairing
Pete and Peggy feeeeeelings are happening because of this winter TCA Elisabeth Moss and Vincent Kartheiser moment. I’m so glad the final season of Mad Men addressed their relationship in this manner. Plus more red pumps <3.
Best ‘Could be Related’
It might be the matching luscious brunette locks and similar attire, but Liv Tyler and Margaret Qualley gave off a related to each other vibe at the season 2 premiere of The Leftovers. Now that would be a season 3 twist.

The new Entertainment Weeklyfeatures the now already much written about big reveal of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and in shocking news it is the TV pages that I flipped to first. Some of the shows included in this issue are Daredevil, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Outlander, Game of Thrones (oh hey there Bran), Orphan Black (including a creepy sheep mask) and newcomers The Path, The Night Manager and SJP’s The Divorce. And The Americans.
In other shocking news it is the latter that has my full attention particularly with the unveiling of what you might consider to be a much more typically 1980s look for the Elizabeth and her new cover ‘Patty.’
The color and shapes are so much bolder, the lipstick is a lot brighter and the eyeliner has got a whole lot thicker showing the shift in style as the 1980s shake off the last vestiges of the decade that came before. This is also the same disguise Keri Russell was wearing in these recent set photos and this character clearly loves all things purple. I cannot wait to discuss this new disguise when the show returns in March.
Creator Joe Weisberg tells the magazine all about ‘Patty’ explaining “It’s a different ’80s perspective than we’ve explored before” and how Elizabeth might be getting a new friend in the form of recurring guest star Ruthie Ann Miles. However as this is The Americans the line between real and fake relationship is a little blurred.
Meanwhile, things still look every level of tense with Paige and it is interesting that in this still Philip is in a position you would normally associate with prayer. Also a quick shout-out to the production design team for perfectly capturing the teenage bedroom wall collage detail and Paige would definitely be the kind of teen to opt for photos of whales on her wall to cover the super 70s wallpaper she has no doubt grown out of. Now I really want a closer peak at the photos on her headboard because The Americans is one of the best examples of not using terrible photoshop on older family pics.
In terms of where this season will find Elizabeth and Philip in their work, well it looks like it is only going to get even harder and co-showrunner Joel Fields explains that “A lot of people refer to this exact period as one of the tensest in the Cold War. Philip and Elizabeth are going to be in the middle of some of the most dangerous operations that, interestingly, were not playing out in the headlines but were happening behind the scenes and didn’t come out until after the Cold War was over.” Because things can never be easy for this pair.
Details about Martha after the de-wigging, the status of Pastor Tim post Paige confession and giving Henry something to do so he isn’t just another Chris from Homeland are all included in the issue which is available from digital and actual newsstands now.

One last Behind the Insta-Scenes for 2015 and as you can probably gather there is not a lot of set action going on right now. Instead we have plenty of fun holiday hangouts, festive decorations and some red carpet treats because some of the Star Wars cast never stop working.
Daisy Ridley is back on premiere duty for The Force Awakens and as “Out of the Box” is concluding its Best of 2015 countdown this is the only place to shower praise on another excellent red carpet dress choice. This time Ridley has gone for super floral purple Jason Wu.
In just under a month The X-Files will be back on our screens and Fox has released a 21-minute preview to wet those appetites; it is safe to say I was pretty giddy within the first few minutes and there is nothing quite like hearing those opening bars of the Mark Snow theme to give you goose bumps.
The preview includes interviews with the cast (new and old) and creators outlining what The X-Files is – not sure they’re going to get too many people watching who don’t know – and setting up the revival. There will be two mythology episodes bookending the six episodes and a whole lot of monsters in-between. The Rhys Darby/Kumail Nanjiani episode looks particularly funny and it is the one I am most looking forward to.
Chris Carter retcons a little with the Mulder and Scully relationship suggesting it was purely platonic and it was only in the most recent movie where there was any romance (okay), but things are certainly just as intimate as they were before even if the pair haven’t seen each other recently. It doesn’t look like it will take any time at all for them to get back into their routine and yep so many feelings from this preview alone. I’ve mentioned it many times before how much Scully and Mulder mean to me and like many others this is the first TV couple I actively shipped. Hence the lack of chill about this revival.
They also bring up the fact that they are both a lot older and it has been over twenty years since they first stated their partnership and the child Scully gave up for adoption is now 15 years old (way to make me feel old by pointing this out guys). By the way Gillian Anderson getting all teary is crushing out of context so expect major misty eyes while watching this scene in context.
There is a very cute moment about age and heels because Mulder does not do stairs anymore; Scully gives him the best response to this complaint. Speaking of cute moments, we’ve also got this blooper and those giddy feelings I mentioned are all pointing to this. It’s all about the shoulder squeeze.
See – no chill whatsoever.
The preview reveals quite a lot of story points and some behind the scenes stuff so if you want to go in completely fresh then it might be best to avoid, however I think they are holding a whole lot back.
As 2015 comes to a close we should take a moment to think of all the TV we have watched and avoid dwelling on the ever growing list of things to catch up on. There is plenty to look forward to in the first few months of the new year including The X-Files revival (of which I have no chill about), Agent Carter (next week!), Broad City, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson (which looks like every level of ridiculous/amazing) and The Americans.
For now let’s bask in the best of 2015 and for your easy perusal here are all of our costuming, music and red carpet essays/posts in one place.
Our number one show of the year if we were to rank these things in list form and The Americans took everything from season 2 and kicked it up a gear from tension levels to secrets which were shared. The costuming was as intricate as ever balancing disguises with Philip and Elizabeth’s everyday attire with some shocking moments which featured the removal of some of these items. New levels of intimacy were reached in a scene which took at home dentistry to the extreme which had me both transfixed while also half covering my eyes.
This has been an incredible year for music on TV with final scenes and end credit offerings hitting sublime notes from many shows. You’re the Worst went big this year in their storyline choices and the music that accompanied the many crushing moments; adding to these highly emotive scenes in the way a soundtrack should. We’ve got the perfect playlist for you to end 2015 on.
#LadySuitWatch2015 was a big thing here at TV Ate My Wardrobe and Alana Bloom’s season 3 change of style on Hannibal took this trend to new and amazing heights.
The 1970s is my favorite fashion decade (for reasons) and Mad Men and Fargo captured the beginning and end of this period in very different ways. Two characters called Peggy both stood out and while they are worlds apart they both capture everything I love about the styling of this period.
There were so many fantastic costuming moments across a variety of genres and viewing platforms that we had to split this picture heavy rundown into two posts. From dragon necklaces to the discussion of male nudity on cable with denim, leather jackets and red lipstick all getting a look in. Plus ultimate cabaret performing attire and a whole lot more.
So many sartorial moments of excellence in 2015 on magazine covers, editorials, the red carpet and at a wide arrange of events. Out of the Box gave a weekly compilation of the best of these and now we have our favorites of the year including this jaw droppingly good Taraji P. Henson W cover. Welcome to TV Ate My Wardrobe’s “Best of 2015” costuming series and rather than doing a straightforward countdown we’re going to do a variety of posts that look at which costumes and shows have made a huge impact this year. From items we want in our own wardrobe to pieces that got everyone talking; we want to celebrate the work of television’s best costume designers.
Now is the turn of a huge range of shows we have been watching this year from network, cable and streaming with comedy, drama and all those other hard to categorize scripted offerings. There has been so many fantastic individual moments that we have had to split this post into two otherwise the scrolling would be endless.
Here is Part 2 of the standout costuming moments in 2015.
Camo Queen
Diane Lockhart is the ultimate when it comes to power dressing in the office – make sure you have at least one piece of statement jewelry – and she manages to transfer this skill to the snowy hunting climate working the all camouflage and furry hat getup like no other.
The Morning After the Night Before Award
Looking dudes killing it with their cardigan, plaid and most importantly bathrobe attire in the season 2 premiere. Patrick also hugged a tree, which was possibly the most adorable TV moment of 2015.
Hair Most Watched
When you want people to believe a HUGE character has been killed off don’t say the actor who plays him has cut his hair because for the next few months every public appearance will be under the hair watch spotlight; whether this be at Wimbledon or an airport (which also happens to be where said show is filmed). Nice suit, Kit. Sunglasses won’t protect your identity.
Inaugural Cary Agos Hot in a Hoodie Trophy
Cary Agos wore his hoodie recently much to our delight and yet we are going to give his prize to the one and only Matt Murdock who took this look to new shirtless levels in Daredevil. Rosario Dawson’s Claire also does casual cool ever so well.
Clothing Most Lived In
It would be remiss if while I was on the subject of hoodie wearers if I didn’t mention Elliot from Mr Robot and it just so happens that I started watching this yesterday (three episodes in and all I want to do is watch the rest). Elliot’s hoodie is very much part of his being and he pulls his hood up at any given opportunity. If a person could live in their clothing then Elliot would definitely live in his black hoodie with his black backpack as his home away from home.
How to Work a Sleeveless Hoodie
This is NOT A GOOD LOOK outside of a boxing movie (and even then I would probs give it a pass) and yet there is something so mesmerizing about Lee Pace in this getup. The same can be said for pretty much all of his Halt and Catch Fire costuming (dude even makes an all white suit and tee work) and this is one show I am so glad I went back to. For actual style inspiration check out everything Donna.
Best Mode of Transport
Amy Schumer’s “Last Fuckable Day” sketch was sadly all too accurate, but most of the time it is better to laugh than cry and that is exactly what Inside Amy Schumer did with this moment and many others over the super strong season 3. And Julia Louis-Dreyfus makes a rowboat look cool as fuck. Is there nothing this woman can’t do?
Smackdown of the Year
There’s a lot that can be said about the relationship dynamics on Jane the Virgin; the Villanueva women are guaranteed to get me crying at least once an episode and I am firmly in the Team Michael camp. There is one relationship that has gone from antagonistic to friendly with a whole dose of it’s complicated in-between and the Jane/Petra situation is the one which intrigues me the most. In Chapter 20 the pair entered the fantasy wrestling ring and it was as much fun as the leather wresting attire that a pregnant Jane was wearing. Petra didn’t look too shabby in her liquid silver jumpsuit. Jane the Virgin is particularly good at mixing the soapy/fantasy elements with real world in both content and costuming; this smackdown episode showcases these elements.
The Reality Show I Wish Was Real
2015 saw the end of several TV Ate My Wardrobe favorites including Kroll Show, which bowed out before it hit any kind of slump. There are many sketches that could have filled this slot – PubLIZity being a close contender – and yet it was this one off Farley piece that has me randomly saying “Look like dis.” Chelsea Peretti and Jenny Slate were my ideal Kroll Show guest stars and this included both women much to my delight.
Unexpected Character Inspiration
More reasons to adore Tatiana Maslany as not only did she deliver yet another fantastic new clone to the Orphan Black table, but she also got her initial inspiration from one of favorite places (as related to the above choice). Maslany told The LA Times that “Krystal was different because she was meant to die in the first episode. I was really into Kroll Show at the time. And I was doing PubLIZity. I was wandering around the set as Krystal in that voice, and they were, like, “We can’t kill her.” Then we started to develop her into a full character and not just me doing Jenny Slate.”
Outfit Most Inspired by Lindsay Weir
Much like Lindsay Weir, Rachel on UnREAL pretty much had her army green jacket glued to her and while Rachel’s life is definitely more of a mess there is certain Lindsay quality to her.
How to get Dressed in a Super Sexy and Snarky Manner
The Good Wife gave us the TV equivalent of blue balls squandering both Finn and Jason; instead having Alicia hook up with Johnny and Peter. At least the latter delivered on this perfect giving none of the fucks moment.
Stripes Delight
A classic look is classic no matter the decade and Virginia’s striped tee and pants ensemble on Masters of Sex is just that. If Emma Stones stripes and polka dots is my platonic ideal of an outfit then this is a close runner-up.
Most Old Hollywood
No one looks more killer (in more ways than one on this occasion) than Lady Gaga as The Countess on American Horror Story: Hotel capturing all that is glam and seductive about Old Hollywood.
Finding the Ideal Location for an Outfit that Looks Like a Painting
Every episode of Elementary is a costuming dream and Joan’s fashion palette is full of patterned delights including this stunning Victoria Beckham shirt dress; it looks like a shot of springtime against the snowy backdrop. There are several shows which use the winter shooting schedule to their advantage and Elementary is on this list (The Americans and Hannibal are two others).
International Assassin of the Year
There could only be one and the meaning behind Kevin Garvey’s suit – which Justin Theroux fits rather nicely – plays out in an incredibly surreal way in one of televisions best episodes of 2015 as The Leftovers hit new bonkers and brilliant heights. How to Make a Silly Looking Prop Look Entirely Serious
I mean it still looks pretty silly, but I don’t want to say that too loud as Keri Russell is giving killer side eye and it’s pretty terrifying. This is also one of Elizabeth’s best wigs of the season (which is actually a slightly less wavy repeat from S2). Blonde is definitely working for her.
Unexpected Sylvia Plath Quote Usage
Master of None took one of my favorite passages from any book and used it in an unexpected way that was so unbelievably perfect. Yes I burst into tears at the reading and portrayal of the fig tree passage from The Bell Jar. Here is that incredible quote in full.
“I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. Taraji P. Henson has appeared on a lot of covers this year and this Diana Ross inspired shoot for W had my jaw on the floor and it is why this issue is still sat on my coffee table. What I love about this image is that it is so simple and yet so incredibly sexy in a way that is so far from Cookie (who is also incredibly sexy).
Best Cape
At the summer TCA CBS, CW and Showtime party Ruth Wilson wore a stunning caped flamingo Valentino frock and had me dreaming of sunshine and sipping on a margarita.
Best Gingham
For her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Lizzy Caplan not only looked super summer cool in a black and white gingham Lela Rose dress, but she also brought up the WB with fellow guest Jon Hamm. Switching out Birkenstocks for black pumps from the backstage walk to the show also showcases how to dress up/down this outfit.
Most on Point Dress
When the movie you are promoting is set in space it might be a tad on the nose to wear a dress this intergalactic, but I say go with it and Kate Mara did just that in this stunning Valentino number.
Best Leather Jacket
Olivia Wilde has been a regular in these parts for the last few months rocking a variety of styles and this leather jacket over floral Valentino (a brand doing very well in this end of year listicle) gives this an edge over the other outfit faves. Trusty red pumps have been worn on multiple occasions by Wilde and work with everything from 70s inspired to color blocking.
Best Leather Pants
Keri Russell favors leather in all forms whether skirts, jumpsuits or pants and as her Late Night with Seth Meyers ensemble demonstrates she looks cool as fuck mixing a show tee with heels, black blazer and these leather pants. The pop of lip color gives an extra kick and I am always thankful that makeup artist Tina Turnbow shares what brands she uses (and I was very lucky to be gifted this lipstick earlier this year).
Best Playsuit
Playsuits can be hard to pull off, but Kristen Stewart is effortless chic in sequinned Zuhair Murad with legs going for miles. At the time I mentioned how much I enjoyed the fact that she lost the heels and walked most the red carpet barefoot and I still do. A lady after my own heart.
Best Jumpsuit
Rebecca Ferguson was a revelation in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and she also stood out at the London Premiere in this stunning DVF Jumpsuit. This was just before I wore my very own DVF dress at my soon to be brother-in-law’s wedding and I was very excited about all of this (as you can tell).
Best LadySuit
#LadySuitWatch2015 has been TV Ate My Wardrobe’s most used hashtag this year and when I saw Amandla Stenberg’s Dazed photoshoot in which she rocks this look I pretty much screamed in delight. Stenberg has been killing it all over social media with her super smart and observant takes on everything from cultural appropriation to how teenagers get discredited for their opinions just because of their age. I can’t wait to see what she does in 2016.
Best Floral Suit
This year has cemented the notion that Michael B. Jordan can wear suits in any color or pattern from Vivienne Westwood plaid to textured D&G at the Met Gala. And he graced the pages of Voguein another D&G floral suit; this time showing he could work something even bolder.

This is pretty much my platonic ideal of any outfit.
Best Co-Star Pockets, Patterns and Giggles
They haven’t spent any time on screen together since season 1 and photos like this of Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams have me longing for the day the Stark sisters will be reunited and then burn the place to the fucking ground. Thankfully due to all the Game of Thrones press commitments we get plenty of delightful off screen moments like this. Clothing wise Maisie Williams has pledged allegiance to dresses with pockets and Sophie Turner is doing strong patterned work here at the GoT premiere.

Two Nickis – one real, one fictional – at the Alexander Wang NYFW runway show back in February and I am always fond of the random groupings at fashion events.

A campaign which still makes me gasp all these months later and Samira Wiley is crushing it for Christian Siriano.
Best Lady Hangout
Squad Goals is one phrase which has been used to an exhausting degree in 2015 (by myself included), but yeah I’m going to have to use it here because this is an ultimate lady hangout situation.

I’ve fallen behind on The Mindy Project, but what I’ve heard about the most recent episodes has got me intrigued. And of course there is always the pattern clashing joy from Mindy’s costuming as an added bonus.
Things did not end well for Lady on Game of Thrones, but luckily life does not imitate life and Sophie Turner adopted Zunni when Lady’s part came to an end. Someone seems pretty happy to see Santa.
As “Out of the Box” is going to be an end of year Best Of for the next two weeks I didn’t want to miss out on this Broad City fashion mag cover joy, so thank you Broad City Insta for posting their Flare shot.

And this is Rory’s, which caused the yelp of Carol related recognition joy.
Vertical versus horizontal stripes, but other than that I don’t think it is a reach in seeing a similarity; this isn’t just a case of wearing Carol tinted costumed design glasses.
As the episode progresses and Rory feels more comfortable in her environment she warms to her new headwear and she only takes it off when her mother makes fun of it. Lorelai later contends that it is “kinda cute” but this conversation is about far more than knitted berets. That will be saved for when I discuss this episode and others with Julie Hammerle in our TV Rewind series. I personally heart the hat as my notes so vehemently say and this is why there is a whole post dedicated toward it. Now to find a version of my own.
