Out of the Box: Look of the Week

9 Mar

In the first “Out of the Box” that comes after award season it isn’t surprising that it is a quieter and more eclectic week; there’s street style, ladysuits, Paris Fashion Week, magazine covers and other public appearances. The Timeless cast got together in Washington D.C. at the Smithsonian and NEH’s History Film Forum Event. I love this show and the chemistry between the three leads is what makes it a joy to watch; as I’ve already said I really hope it gets renewed and not just so I get new book recommendations and have plenty to write about costume wise.

Matt Lanter and Malcolm Barrett are doing standard panel attire and they look fine, but it is Abigail Spencer’s matching Creatures of The Wind ’60s inspired pattern ensemble that is mesmerizing me. Also please renew this show, NBC.

Ladysuit alert and a fabulous one from Jenny Slate as she goes shirtless and makes me want to use the flame emoji. The tequila confession feels very accurate and I had a friend who broke half her front tooth because of tequila. It is fun and also cannot be trusted. No one does street style while also being a walking advert for their brand quite like Reese Witherspoon. And unlike other celeb lifestyle products (not naming names) this is both wearable and semi-affordable. The Americans returned this week – click here for my review – and Keri Russell has been doing the press rounds including a very fun interview on Live with Kelly and on the same day wearing the same fabulous outfit Russell took part in the AOL Build series (which you can watch below).

Mixing casual cool in an oversized Céline turtleneck sweater – which we have talked about on here before and is definitely the kind of thing I would want to wear every day – with a retro looking houndstooth Prada skirt, sheer pink pop socks and hot pink Manolo Blahniks.

The interview itself is fun covering a range of things about the new season including digging that hole in the S5 finale, how she feels about Elizabeth, the recent political climate, the relationships on the show and what it is like to work with your IRL boyfriend. Entering the portion of this week’s column that is dedicated to black attire and this is the kind of outfit that few can pull off; Kristen Stewart is just the person to make corset pants look effortless. At the Personal Shopper LA premiere Kristen Stewart debuted a killer looking bleach blonde crop, which I have instantly fallen in love with. Also crushing it on the cool levels (as always) is Isabelle Huppert and I’m gonna go all Tyra as she’s doing this from H to T. Those silver tip pumps are a joy and as this is at the Louis Vuitton show at Paris Fashion Week, Huppert is wearing LV. Huppert is also reigniting my desire to own a leather jacket. Also at Louis Vuitton is Michelle Williams (as one of the faces of the brand this makes sense) and this is a far edgier look than we are used to seeing her in. I am all for a style switch up even if she looks a little stiff, but that might be the March chill rather than the outfit. Love the boots and as always I would suggest a bold red lip.Switching things up entirely at Valentino with all the delicate feminine frills. A trend that could go either way and much like KStew in all things edgy, Kate Mara is the perfect person to wear something that is drape adjacent. Also that is one fabulous collar and we all know how I feel about a detailed neckline. A striking and stripped down Chrissy Teigen cover and her piece on postpartum depression is so important. Chrissy is someone I have very strong good feelings about and it is not just because her cookbook has taught me how to make incredible bacon hash browns.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

19 Aug

After last week’s TCA heavy style antics we’ve got a mostly magazine and editorial “Out of the Box” with a dash of the red carpet at the end of the post.

Nylon WinonaAnother fantastic Winona Ryder cover to join last week’s New York stunner and the September issue of Nylon used to be the much anticipated (by me) TV issue. The focus has moved away from an all-TV issue, but as the cover suggests the best new shows element is still present.

This shot of Ryder is fun and mischievous showing that black and white photography doesn’t have to be all moody poses and cigarette smoke.Kristen StewartSo happy it is fall fashion season and that chunky knits are on the horizon (the shorts and tank situation I have going on is getting old). Yes this Chanel version is on the sheer side so I am predisposed to at least wrinkle my nose, but this Kristen Stewart cover for T is such a commanding image and the rest of the editorial continues in this vein. Plus there is a whole 90s vibe which ticks all the nostalgia boxes.

It is also one of the most relaxed and open interviews I have read with Stewart and she gives off a happy and content vibe while discussing her relationships “I still want to protect my personal life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people.” A certain ex also gets a mention by name. Julia StilesMore sweater delights with Julia Stiles in Max Mara for Interview and I find it hard to resist a starry number. While not on the same level as Winona Ryder, my fondness for Julia Stiles goes back to teendom and the movies I watched on repeat; 10 Things I Hate About You still being one in regular rotation.

On this movie and its fans Stiles comments in Interview “I think it’s really special to be a part of something that people are still watching or thinking about or interested in, or remember fondly many years later. I don’t think it’s annoying at all.”Lucy LiuLucy Liu is the new brand ambassador for Bruno Magli and she is also the face of the new super glamorous fall campaign where she crushes the beehive look and now I want Joan Watson to investigate shenanigans at an auction. Liu has also designed a shoe for the brand that is aptly called “The Lucy.” Sophie TurnerAt Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event Sophie Turner shows off her new blonde locks and fake tats (sadly the wolfie one is under her sleeve) for her new project Huntsville. While I am lukewarm on her pumps, I am all in on the green mini.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

20 May

A fun mix of casual and glam this week with Upfronts fashion (for more from the Fox and NBC panels head here) delivering some “Out of the Box” sartorial highs. Plus Cannes gives us red carpet decadence and a dash of chic French Rivera daytime photocall outfits. Oh and there is an extra special treat at the end.Hayley AtwellIt wasn’t a surprise considering the ratings and the fact that Hayley Atwell had already been cast on another ABC show (Conviction – watch the promo here), but the Agent Carter cancellation still hurts and I’m sad we’re not going to be getting any more Peggy adventures (for now).

I will be watching Conviction based on its star (and Francie from Alias is in it!) and Atwell is giving me even more positive feelings towards jumpsuits in this strapless number.Constance WuConstance Wu’s got the ideal blend of casual and cool in this dress which is giving me early 80s sports vibes (maybe because I wrote this dedication to athleisure wear this week) at the ABC Upfront event. Love the bold pink lip color with the mint green of the frock.Martha PlimptonMore lipstick treats from Martha Plimpton in an outfit which is ticking all the pocket and excellent office vibes boxes.Krysten RitterKrysten Ritter making another “Out of the Box” appearance switching out stunning crimson for studded and sparkly Zuhair Murad at the Webby Awards. Ritter is another red lip color queen. Kirsten DunstKirsten Dunst continues to crush it on all levels at Cannes and this aerial shot of her walking the Loving red carpet in a delicate (and okay maybe slightly bridal, but who cares) Dior Couture gown is pretty stunning. Dior it turns out is a much better brand for Dunst than JLaw if this festival is anything to go by. Also check out Dunst on the cover of the new Hollywood Reporter Emmy roundtable issue.Ruth NeggaA very busy time for Ruth Negga with Preacher about to premiere on AMC and a performance in Loving which has been getting rave reviews at Cannes. A gold long sleeve pleated Suno frock is maybe a little too fall for Cannes, but I think she looks fantastic. Excellent choice of footwear with bronze sandals that gives this ensemble a more summery feel.Personal ShopperKristen Stewart looks like she has been having a blast at Cannes this year and she’s been wearing a whole lot of Chanel (not a surprise) over the course of the festival. This daytime look at the Personal Shopper photocall is my favorite (you can read about/see the rest here) and this is ultimate Chanel cool. The sunglasses and her general vibe also helps. Co-stars Sigrid Bouaziz and Nora von Waldstatten are also slaying their daytime style and I particularly love Bouaziz’s ultra-mini patterned frock.Oscar IsaacEnding this week on an excellent (and dreamy) Rolling Stone cover note with Oscar Isaac smoldering it up a storm. Yes the release of this cover derailed work yesterday afternoon. The interview is great and this might be my favorite anecdote for obvious reasons “In high school, he began writing an invitation to Claire Danes, then the teen star of My So-Called Life, to appear in one of his productions, but he reconsidered.”

Best of the 2016 Met Gala: Everything That Shines

3 May

This year’s Met Gala theme is ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology’ exploring the conflict and marriage between handcrafted pieces and how technology has enhanced/changed the way garments are made. So pretty much putting tech under the spotlight and as with previous Met Galas there are those that get the theme spot on, those who just wear whatever is pretty and those who go all in.

We’ve got a couple of posts with our favorite looks from the night and kicking things off with so much sparkle, shine and a very special dress.Claire DanesClaire Danes does dramatic ball gown in Zac Posen and from a glance it appears to be an iridescent Cinderella inspired take with not a whole lot of tech. Beautiful, but it would be understandable why Hugh Dancy is raising an eyebrow (and looking super handsome). But nope this is the perfect embodiment of the theme as Zac Posen’s Instagram photos and video show.

Magic moments!! Zacposen #metgala #clairedanes

A post shared by Zac Posen (@zacposen) on

Along with seeing how spectacular this gown looks, I also love that you can hear Claire Danes discussing with Dancy what booze she is gonna be drinking.

Jourdan DunnEntering the metallic zone of which there were many and Jourdan Dunn’s Balenciaga is one of the standouts. It looks like she has been dipped in liquid metal.

Even better is this shot looking out over the city of New York pre-Gala.Brie LarsonA close runner-up in the best of the silver looks is Brie Larson wearing Proenza Schouler serving up a whole lot of fierce in dark lipstick and a tiered sequin silhouette. For more on the design process check out this in-depth look and behind the scenes photos at Vogue.Lupita Nyong'oTime to break up the silvers with Lupita Nyong’o doing dramatic with an incredible updo and green Calvin Klein; this is how you do the Met Gala.  Naomi WattsBurberry does floral infused metallic and Naomi Watts’ all the silver accessories work like a charm here with another tech interpretation that points to all things shiny.Lady GagaYou can always trust Lady Gaga to run with a theme and here she mixes in a healthy dose of an 80s music video and her love of all things crazy platform in Atelier Versace.Alexa ChungWe get our first #LadySuitWatch2016 alert for the Met Gala and Alexa Chung is a sparkly vision in Thakoon.Nicole KidmanThe theme is tech related but it could easily have been something magic based on a lot of the looks (which I guess technology feels like at times) and Nicole Kidman is very much giving witchy beauty in Alexander McQueen.
Kristen StewartGoing in close on Kristen Stewart because her edgy silver makeup is the perfect look for her Chanel sparkles and knotted/braided bleach blonde locks. Roots and all.
Emily BluntThe light is shining on Emily Blunt and she’s giving us bold color sequins in Michael Kors; this is every level of beautiful.ZendayaOnly Zendaya could make a bowl haircut a high fashion moment and she is another one slaying in Michael Kors.

Knitwear, Boots and Coats Galore at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival

25 Jan

In a sea of red carpets at this time of year Sundance stands out because heels are replaced by boots and wool is a predominant fabric. Plus the chance of sheer ruining an ensemble is dramatically reduced. Award season indulges in wish fulfillment aspects of fashion and the fancy pants levels are high; while I love the decadent and intricate details of gowns galore, there is something rather wonderful about the casual cool at the Sundance Film Festival.

What this boils down to is a combination of a several things including a love of all things winter wear – yes I have snow FOMO right now – with a dash of ‘stars they’re just like us’ and the kind of movies that are being showcased. Considering how many different knitted I am wearing right now (including leggings and long bootie socks) combined with how many sweater posts we have produced on TV Ate My Wardrobe it will come as no big surprise that I am in style heaven right now.

Aubrey Plaza and Jenny SlateApril Ludgate was an ultimate sweater queen and there was no doubt that Aubrey Plaza would not disappear from these pages when Parks and Recreation ended. At the Joshy premiere Plaza goes for a cozy ribbed sweater delight paired with skinny jeans, black boots and the always wonderful Jenny Slate. Also killing it with her boots choice, pleated skirt and sweater tee.

Amandla StenbergCeleb style lounges pretty much sound like the best thing especially when warm coats and boots are up for grabs so Sundance has this perk in the bag too. At Kari Feinstein’s Style Lounge Amandla Stenberg gives a good style lesson in long dress chunky knits; performing the double of super cozy and funky all at once.

Alison Brie SundanceAlso at the Kari Feinstein Style Lounge Alison Brie shows off fur hooded and toggle coat excellence demonstrating exactly why this is the ideal place for a freebie haul.

Chloe Sevigny and Natasha LyonneGetting whiffs of Grey Gardens and now picturing Chloë Sevigny and Natasha Lyonne as Big and Little Edie as they attend Lena Dunham and Planned Parenthood’s ‘Sex, Politics & Film’ cocktail reception. I mean this as a huge compliment. Sweater heaven continues.

Allison Janney and Sian HederWhere else would you see Allison Janney in green leather pants?! Extra points for the chunky roll neck sweater at the Tallulah premiere. Tallulah writer/director Sian Heder is pretty much wearing my platonic ideal of a casual outfit – boots/tights/striped dress – and I am very much looking forward to seeing this film.

Brianna HildebrandBrianna Hildebrand covers all the coat and patterned shirt bases at the First Girl I Loved premiere. Jeans are once again the pants of choice paired with – you guessed it – black boots.

To avoid this post being an endless scrolling exercise we’ve put the rest of our favorite Sundance looks in the gallery below. Just click on the image for a better look and so many more sweater, outerwear, boots and winter casual attire offerings.

For more Sundance be sure to check back for “Out of the Box: Look of the Week” on Friday and here are some highlights from last year including THAT Coach sweater I am still coveting.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

15 Jan

A red carpet heavy week with pre-Globes, other awardsthe main event, after parties and TCA with some people pretty much attending all of these. We’re going to concentrate on mostly TCA and after party sartorial delights with a dash of the Marie Claire Image Makers celebration.

Rami MalekRami Malek takes the crown for best dressed dude this week slaying in everything from his button upped style to looking super sharp in Dior Homme at the Golden Globes. Stylist Ilaria Urbinati is one of my favorites especially when it comes to menswear and she gave a rundown of the getting ready process for GQ, which includes Rami in a very lovely striped sweater. At the Mr Robot TCA panel he shows that he can also do the suit with tie thing in Calvin Klein rounding off this excellent week.

Carly ChaikinMr Robot is also killing it in the lady style stakes and Carly Chaikin’s AFI floral number was another high point of this very busy period (see also Portia Doubleday’s Golden Globes disco ball frock). Chaikin’s got another winner here in polka dot Jill Stuart and this is when a little bit of sheer totally works.

Jessica St. Clair and Lennon ParhamIn surprising good news from the USA Network panel it was announced yesterday that Playing House has been renewed for a third season and I’m so happy about this as I really need more of this wonderful show. Bold block colors were on trend at the Golden Globes and creators/stars Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham both look fabulous in this style choice.

Juliet Lewis TCAA classic floral frock for Juliette Lewis at the Disney/ABC TCA day and a very muted prelude to the cracked out brilliance of what she would be wearing later that day.

Kristen StewartUltimate Kristen Stewart red carpet attire at the first annual Marie Claire Image Makers event and everything about this from the coat to the metallic detail on her Sally LaPointe is perfect. Stewart was there to honor makeup artist Jillian Dempsey and her hair stylist Adir Abergel was also getting recognized.

Aja Naomi KingThe length is awkward, but this color looks amazing on How to Get Away with Murder’s Aja Naomi King. Plus it has pockets!

Honourable WomanI know I’ve already written about Maggie Gyllenhaal’s art deco looking Marc Jacobs dress (which I still adore), but I couldn’t resist this Honourable Woman reunion with Tobias Menzies at the HBO Golden Globes after party.

Carrie Brownstein, Gaby HoffmannSo here for the size of Gaby Hoffmann’s hair – Ali’s hair on Transparent in season 2 reaches new heights of everything – her dress, which at first I thought might be a jumpsuit and Carrie Brownstein’s oh so amazing patterned frock/general super cool vibe. Amazon Head of Comedy Joe Lewis looks rather pleased and swish at the Amazon Golden Globes celebration and I’m guessing that has a little something to do with the Mozart in the Jungle double win.Laverne CoxOh HBO, your backdrop is like the wallpaper I wish I had, but would immediately regret and it very much works with Laverne Cox switching one incredible white gown for another in custom Mark Zunino; adding her to the list of caped wonders.

Kathryn HahnAnd this is where the choice of posing wall pattern makes it feel like you are looking at a Magic Eye picture and therefore giving me a rage induced headache because I could never see the sailboat or whatever. I do like Kathryn Hahn’s dress despite the optical obstacle.

Transparent HBO AfterpartyEnding on Transparent chaos and another angle of this shot. Kathryn Hahn’s pose/face is everything. This looks like the later hours at a wedding.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

8 Jan

Happy First “Out of the Box” of 2016 and award season is taking over with a dash of the winter TCA and the first stunning magazine cover of the year. Now is not the time to go big on the red carpet because there’s still plenty of dress/tux wearing time to go, but there is plenty to love about this week’s offerings including the two big trends; lots of green and pattern clashing.

Brie Larson and Jacob TemblayI mentioned earlier this week that we would be seeing a lot more of Brie Larson on here and I’m making good on this promise with a double outfit entry from Larson. First up at the Palm Springs International Film Festival she wore this simple emerald green Jason Wu dress to pick up the Breakthrough Performance Award. Accompanied by her Room co-star Jacob Tremblay showing that being a kid doesn’t mean you can’t look dapper (and super adorable to boot) in a tux.

Saoirse RonanAnother award recipient at the Palm Springs festivities and Saoirse Ronan took home the International Star Award for her magnificent turn in Brooklyn. Here is where the pattern clashing might enter ‘too much’ territory, but I love this Duro Olowu frock and it is the right amount of chaos for me especially as she paired it with just as bright orange sandals. There’s nothing beige about this look.

Brie LarsonBack to Brie Larson and this Giambattista Valli Haute Couture dress mixes pattern and texture in a way that shouldn’t work, but does (although I have a feeling there will be some who disagree with me on this one). It’s like someone deep dived into Alice in Wonderland and came up with this.

Jessica ChastainMore emerald green and it might be a safe bet pairing this color with a redhead, but it doesn’t stop it being a winning formula as Jessica Chastain demonstrates at the National Board of Review Gala in satin Carl Kapp.

Peter Sarsgaard and Magie GyllenghaalLooking super loved up on the NBR red carpet and showing that a black dress can be the killer option is Maggie Gyllenhaal with husband Peter Sarsgaard. Her hair looks fantastic and The Row frock blends 30s and 70s cool.

Claire Danes and Hugh DancyOver at the People’s Choice Awards (which always makes me think of this Comeback episode) and brightening up proceedings are another TV Ate My Wardrobe couple fave; Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy always look great together even if his haircut is a little too short for my taste. I assume it is for his new show The Path, but I miss his Will Graham slight unruly wave. Danes looks fabulous in metallic Burberry and I guess this will have to make up for the lack of Golden Globes nomination and therefore non-red carpet appearance this weekend.

Julianna Moore and Kristen StewartOne final green entry and another redhead in this color and Julianne Moore looks casual cool at the New York Film Critics’ Circle Awards presenting Kristen Stewart – slaying in Chanel leather and lace – with Best Supporting Actress for Clouds of Sils Maria. Over at Vulture they present the case of why this pair are the BFFs we never knew we wanted and yep I am down with that.

Amandla Stenberg Teen VogueAmandla Stenberg covers the new issue of Teen Vogue and it is both a fantastic photo editorial and conversation with Solange Knowles discussing her school video project on cultural appropriation “Don’t Cash Crop My Cornrows,” which went viral and made sure people knew Stenberg was someone to pay attention to. They also talk about the horrific comments that were made when she was cast in The Hunger Games, feeling comfortable in her own skin, besties Kiernan Shipka, Willow Smith and Tavi Gevinson, plus future projects.

To read the full interview and see more fabulous photos from the shoot head here. This is better than any recent Vogue cover I can remember and their editorial team should take note.

Scott SpeedmanBecause I’m not going to deny you Scott Speedman’s bare ankles at the Animal Kingdom TCA panel.

Constance ZimmerA slightly random TCA note to end on, but here is Constance Zimmer (who was there on UnREAL duty – so excited for S2) looking as happy as you should be when playing with a dog. I also appreciate the close up on those heels which glam up her outfit.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week – Best of 2015 Part 1

24 Dec

We have written about a lot of outfits both on and off screen this year and the 2015 Best Of series turns its attention toward our Look of the Week column, which has featured a whole host of red carpet appearances, magazine covers/editorial styling and many other sartorially infused events. Here is the first part of our “Out of the Box” rundown showcasing our favorites from a very stylish year.

Best Magazine Cover

Taraji P Henson WTaraji P. Henson has appeared on a lot of covers this year and this Diana Ross inspired shoot for W had my jaw on the floor and it is why this issue is still sat on my coffee table. What I love about this image is that it is so simple and yet so incredibly sexy in a way that is so far from Cookie (who is also incredibly sexy).

Best Cape

Ruth WilsonAt the summer TCA CBS, CW and Showtime party Ruth Wilson wore a stunning caped flamingo Valentino frock and had me dreaming of sunshine and sipping on a margarita.

Best Gingham

Lizzy CaplanFor her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Lizzy Caplan not only looked super summer cool in a black and white gingham Lela Rose dress, but she also brought up the WB with fellow guest Jon Hamm. Switching out Birkenstocks for black pumps from the backstage walk to the show also showcases how to dress up/down this outfit.

Most on Point Dress

Kate MaraWhen the movie you are promoting is set in space it might be a tad on the nose to wear a dress this intergalactic, but I say go with it and Kate Mara did just that in this stunning Valentino number.

Best Leather Jacket

Olivia WildeOlivia Wilde has been a regular in these parts for the last few months rocking a variety of styles and this leather jacket over floral Valentino (a brand doing very well in this end of year listicle) gives this an edge over the other outfit faves. Trusty red pumps have been worn on multiple occasions by Wilde and work with everything from 70s inspired to color blocking.

Best Leather Pants

Keri Russell Seth MeyersKeri Russell favors leather in all forms whether skirts, jumpsuits or pants and as her Late Night with Seth Meyers ensemble demonstrates she looks cool as fuck mixing a show tee with heels, black blazer and these leather pants. The pop of lip color gives an extra kick and I am always thankful that makeup artist Tina Turnbow shares what brands she uses (and I was very lucky to be gifted this lipstick earlier this year).

Best Playsuit

Kristen StewartPlaysuits can be hard to pull off, but Kristen Stewart is effortless chic in sequinned Zuhair Murad with legs going for miles. At the time I mentioned how much I enjoyed the fact that she lost the heels and walked most the red carpet barefoot and I still do. A lady after my own heart.

Best Jumpsuit

Rebecca FergusonRebecca Ferguson was a revelation in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and she also stood out at the London Premiere in this stunning DVF Jumpsuit. This was just before I wore my very own DVF dress at my soon to be brother-in-law’s wedding and I was very excited about all of this (as you can tell).

Best LadySuit

Amandla Stenberg#LadySuitWatch2015 has been TV Ate My Wardrobe’s most used hashtag this year and when I saw Amandla Stenberg’s Dazed photoshoot in which she rocks this look I pretty much screamed in delight. Stenberg has been killing it all over social media with her super smart and observant takes on everything from cultural appropriation to how teenagers get discredited for their opinions just because of their age. I can’t wait to see what she does in 2016.

Best Floral Suit

Michael B Jordan VogueThis year has cemented the notion that Michael B. Jordan can wear suits in any color or pattern from Vivienne Westwood plaid to textured D&G at the Met Gala. And he graced the pages of Vogue in another D&G floral suit; this time showing he could work something even bolder.

Best Polka Dots and Stripes

Emma StoneThis is pretty much my platonic ideal of any outfit.

Best Co-Star Pockets, Patterns and Giggles

Maisie and SophieThey haven’t spent any time on screen together since season 1 and photos like this of Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams have me longing for the day the Stark sisters will be reunited and then burn the place to the fucking ground. Thankfully due to all the Game of Thrones press commitments we get plenty of delightful off screen moments like this. Clothing wise Maisie Williams has pledged allegiance to dresses with pockets and Sophie Turner is doing strong patterned work here at the GoT premiere.

Best Sweater – Part 1

Matt BomerThere is nothing not adorable about this Matt Bomer look.

Best Sweater – Part 2

Cobie SmuldersIf there is one sweater I coveted more than any other in 2015 it is this Coach space themed knitwear as worn by many including Cobie Smulders at Sundance.

Best Front Row Watching at NYFW

Natasha Lyonne and Nicki MinajTwo Nickis – one real, one fictional – at the Alexander Wang NYFW runway show back in February and I am always fond of the random groupings at fashion events.

Best Fashion Campaign

Samira WileyA campaign which still makes me gasp all these months later and Samira Wiley is crushing it for Christian Siriano.

Best Lady Hangout

Broad City premiereSquad Goals is one phrase which has been used to an exhausting degree in 2015 (by myself included), but yeah I’m going to have to use it here because this is an ultimate lady hangout situation.

Stay tuned for Part 2 next week and Happy Holidays!

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

21 Aug

A collection of summer dresses, classic silhouettes, sparkles and super chill looks from this week’s “Out of the Box.” Plus more magazine treats including some Fargo season 2 hints.

Lupita Nyong'oLupita Nyong’o continues to reign supreme in the red carpet stakes and this colorful graphic stripes Lanvin mini frock is ideal D23 Expo attire. It is a fun look and I cannot wait until the full blown Star Wars press tour in December.

Kristen StewartThis is a sparkly floral delight from Kristen Stewart in tailored to perfection Zuhair Murad. Down the red carpet she went barefoot and this only makes me heart her more (the length of time my heels stay on varies, but it is pretty much a flip flop/barefoot swap before the end of the night). This recent KStew press tour has been one sartorial hit after another from magazine covers to the red carpet.

lake bellThe nude pumps are a bit of a snooze, but I’m going to give Lake Bell a pass on the shoe front as this red Vionnet Resort 2016 dress is super chic excellence. Plus Bell gets the bonus red lipstick and excellent clutch points at the No Escape premiere.

Kerry WashingtonNot sure what I’m lusting after more – Kerry Washington’s sunglasses or her floral Suno frock. This is at Jennifer Klein’s Day of Indulgence event which sounds like a whole lot of free stuff joy, which also sounds very appealing.

Aubrey Plaza sunglassesSecond week in a row for Aubrey Plaza and she once again looks casual cool in sunglasses and buttoned up blouse as she also attends the Day of Indulgence.

Stephen Colbert GQThe Stephen Colbert September issue GQ profile has plenty of incredible suits and poses throughout New York. It is well worth a read particularly the second half where things turn to dealing with tragedy at a young age.

Kirsten dunstKirsten Dunst serves up another 70s inspired photo shoot and whereas Town and Country took a Virgin Suicides inspiration in floaty whites, in Gotham Magazine she is giving off Jane Birkin vibes. The interview is conducted by Julianne Moore and covers quite a lot of ground including which film is closest to her own character (Bring it On), being a child actor and what drew her to Fargo. She also reveals some plot details and the costuming comes up; I am very excited this aspect as this is my favorite clothing decade.

“In the first few episodes, I wanted people to look at Peggy and giggle a little bit—just a pinch! Not at her, but with her, just so that you’re on this girl’s side. Some of the stuff that she manipulates her husband into doing! I had red gloves because I was caught red-handed. And because this character wants to get out of Minnesota, I wanted her to have a beret to wear, or a shirt that has the Eiffel Tower all over it.”

She also says nice things about Jesse Plemons, because of course “He’s awesome. Most of our scenes are together, and we developed a great friendship.”
