Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

15 Mar

Welcome to this week’s installment of “Behind the Insta-Scenes” and we’ve got sartorial highs, set shenanigans and some very cute animals to share with you.

Someone needs to make a movie with these three ladies as triplets. Tom Cullen has already come up with the tagline. Please and thank you.

I love Aya Cash so much.

Not one, but three kittens! Thank you Brooklyn Nine-Nine for this furry treat.

And not to forget all the dog lovers – Constance Zimmer showing off this little cutie on the set of UnREAL. And now I’m wondering what manipulative role this puppy will be playing.

UnREAL OTP.

By now you will probably know how much I love it when co-stars hangout off set and this is the perfect example of that. All the warm feelings

Also here for random encounters like this one with Chris Noth walking by the Girls set and getting accosted by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner (also understandable).

I haven’t caught any Vinyl yet, but I can see how incredible Bobby Canavale’s hair is and how much work it takes to get the look.

Ariana Grande did a superb job on SNL this week accidental swear and all. And now I have This is Not A Feminist Song” stuck in my head for at least another three more days.

Greg Williams has one of the best celebrity photography Instagram accounts and the access he gets at events like Letters Live lends to some very intimate moments; including this amazing shot of Gillian Anderson peaking from behind the curtain.

Music Monday – Girls Season 5 Closing Credits Playlist

14 Mar

For any Music Monday regulars you will know already how much I appreciate the variety of end credit music on shows like GirlsYou’re the Worst (which took the Best of 2015 crown) and TogethernessMad Men crushed end credit music selections week in week out and Orange is the New BlackDeutschland 83 and The Leftovers are also strong contenders in this field. With this in mind and for this season Girls instead of producing a playlist at the end of the season I will be adding to the closing credits playlist on weekly basis.

Starting on episode 4 makes it an EP of sorts and one of my favorite things about the music on Girls is that even if the episode has been kinda shitty for the characters there tends to be a hopeful edge to the song choices. The last few moments of “Old Loves” showcases the after of the bad/awkward sex encounters we have just witnessed with Elijah wondering around Dill’s fancy apartment in his underwear and Jessa watches a sleeping Adam before laying her head down on his bare chest. Hannah and Fran are dealing with non-sex related issues this week and this is the most fractured environment.Girls season 5Thankfully we are spared Desi and Marnie post-coital bliss or tears or whatever because if Desi can’t even get his top off properly I’m not sure I want to see that. The song that plays over these moments and the credits is “iT” by Christine and the Queens.Girls season 5There is a whole lot of coming together in “Old Loves” but as the title suggests there is a lot from the past bubbling beneath the surface and like those old celebrity couples has time run its course on a friendship like Hannah and Jessa’s? The argument in the rice pudding place (which I really want to go to because I love rice pudding) would suggest this and perhaps this is Jessa’s way of self sabotaging her friendship because of Adam. And also because Hannah and Jessa have always had this contentious thing that doesn’t quite match up with the best in best friends.

PS I love Old Loves and now I share this with Marnie I’m not entirely sure how I feel because as Abbi pointed out in the Broad City season 3 premiere with Charlotte from SATC – who Marnie clearly is the closest equivalent of* – even if you can identify that way you’re reluctant to admit it as she’s really annoying at times. I also have love/hate feelings towards her silver pants and they are the perfect clothing representation of my relationship with Marnie.

*Updated because it just occurred to me that her apartment/wall situation made me think of Aidan renovating Carrie’s apartment and there is also something Carrie about Marnie. Aidan is no Desi thankfully.

Here is the start of the Girls season 5 closing credits playlist.

Check back every week as the playlist gets longer and becomes album length.

Update! The “Life on Mars” AURORA performed cover of the incredible David Bowie song is not available on Spotify (it is on iTunes) so instead I have opted to switch it out for my favorite non-Bowie version of this song. This one comes from another soundtrack (The Life Aquatic) with Seu Jorge singing this track. The original version also appears on this soundtrack.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

11 Mar

This is our first “Out of the Box” post-award season post and guess what? There are still plenty of amazing outfits, events and magazine covers to admire/covet/gaze over. From teen girl superstars to The Americans with a dash of Paris Fashion Week and Broadway openings; we’ve got a wide range of looks from fancy pants to casual cool.

W MagazineTeen girls taking over the world one magazine cover at a time and this new ‘Dream Teens’ issue is gonna look great on my coffee table. When discussing Kiernan Shipka’s Dazed feature I mentioned this factor as once again there is an element of direct confrontation in their gaze which is so appealing and there is something incredibly powerful about this shot of Shipka, Willow Smith and Zendaya. The other photos from the editorial are just as strong and you can check those out here along with individual interviews. I am so excited to see what they all do next. Keri RussellOver at Tom and Lorenzo they remarked that this black Gucci ruffled number is an optical illusion of a dress as from the front you can’t tell that Keri Russell is pregnant, but the side view makes it very clear. Either way, Russell looks fantastic at the season 4 Americans premiere and the vampy lipstick color hits all the right notes.

This is a very different look from the Valentino frock she wore on The Late Show last week showing there are plenty of options for fancy maternity wear. The stacked Gucci platforms are kind of insane (pregnant or not) in close up form, but work from the front in this shot.Alison WrightAlso at The Americans season 4 premiere is Alison Wright taking a break from pussy bows, anguished faces and giant 80s hair in a printed Mary Katrantzou delight. Plus pocket points! Julia GarnerKeeping with The Americans theme and Julia Garner attended the Miu Miu Paris Fashion Week show this week in this super cute and sophisticated look. There’s no word as to whether Kimmy will be in season 4, but Garner has been taking the fashion world by storm modelling for Miu Miu, hitting the Balenciaga runway and featuring on the cover of Italian VogueAlicia VikanderParis Fashion Week has definitely delivered on the outerwear front and recent Oscar winner Alicia Vikander attended the Louis Vuitton show – it is the brand she models for after all – in a fantastic blue and white coat. The rest of the outfit is also very Vikander cool and hopefully we will be seeing more Louis Vuitton creations like her sequin SAG and Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty dresses. Lupita Nyong'o and Danai GuriraDanai Gurira has been crushing it all areas – writing, acting, fashion – and at the Eclipsed opening night afterparty she wore this very pretty and colorful flowing Schiaparelli gown, which is ideal for twirling in. Ruffles are big this week and Lupita Nyong’o works this trend with aplomb in green plunging Balmain and her new InStyle cover also embraces this color in the best possible way. Adding to my magazine ‘to buy’ list.Olivia WildeOlivia Wilde has directed a music video for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes causing instant thoughts of Marnie’s dream wedding aesthetic on Girls. This is also a really great casual outfit for a moment like this; once again proving that Wilde delivers on both the fancy pants events and the more dress down occasions.

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

9 Mar

Last week’s Instagram round-up included the last of this award season, but there are still plenty of behind the scenes treats this week including excellent guest stars, fabulous outfits and shows starting production for their new seasons.

90s nostalgia continues to dominate and the new Cruel Intentions and subsequent casting has hit me right in the sweet spot. And I can guarantee that now I’ve mentioned this project I will be listening to the soundtrack later today.

Best Broad City guest star (Part 1).

Best Broad City guest star (Part 2).

Award season might be over, but thanks to The Last Man on Earth we still get this week’s dose of Jacob Tremblay being adorable. Well a slightly potty mouth version of Tremblay, but still adorable.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCqo8J8pQx6/?taken-by=mindykaling

Whenever I see Mindy Kaling with Ellie Kemper I have a sudden hankering to watch Subtle Sexuality so I’ll be back in a moment… Also excellent outfits on both ladies.

First UnREAL table read for season 2 and I maybe just read Quinn as ‘Queen’ and that also works.

This also has me VERY excited.

Celebrating International Women’s Day on The Good Wife with lots of lady love.

Cuteness overload on the Elementary set. Random aside, but Lucy Liu’s guest appearance on Girls is definitely one of the TV moments of this week.

Priyanka Chopra took over the Tonight Show Instagram and this delightful photo with Questlove.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCjn4MxJqMk/?taken-by=daniebb3

Crushing it for Essence magazine is Danielle Brooks and this cover shot is also incredible.

There was an homage to Scandal on this week’s Jane the Virgin and I wonder if The Americans is getting this treatment next if these wiggy pictures are anything to go by.

This is certainly a look and probably not one that is good for spy work.

Best TV show tie-in.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCq44wrOqag/?taken-by=jennyslate

Excellent outfit ahoy!

There is still plenty of getting ready for photo shoot shots to behold and this one of Greta Gerwig is stunning.

And stylist Ilaria Urbinati still has a whole lot of fittings to do even after the last Oscar gown has been hung up and I can’t wait to see who will wear these beautiful clothes.

Well Earned Distractions on The Good Wife

7 Mar

It is really good to see Alicia Florrick smile again as we head into the final stretch of The Good Wife and it makes sense to show a slightly more carefree Alicia before it could all potentially come crashing down. The investigation into Peter is heating up as is Alicia’s relationship with Jason and the episode opens with a ‘lost weekend’ of sex, movies, eating pizza and more sex. All the things Alicia has been denying herself for too long. Yes she might have an ‘arrangement’ with her husband, but she really hasn’t been taking too much advantage of this setup until now.The Good Wife 7.16 Alicia“Hearing” takes a farcical turn with the arrival of Alicia’s family during her weekend with Jason and I am always happy to see Veronica and Owen even if they are interrupting as they respond to Jason with such glee. Alicia has finally ‘taken a lover’ like both of them have wanted her to do for so long now. They are very much the anti-Peter brigade and an audience stand-in as Veronica was also a huge Will/Alicia shipper. Veronica has been the victim of a scam that dates back and Jason is more than happy to help get her money back. This one might be a keeper.

Alicia’s apartment is a hotbed of activity much to her chagrin at disturbing her actual hot bed of activity and Eli makes a stop by with Peter’s new lawyer Mike Tascioni. The grand jury has started and they still don’t quite know what Peter is being investigated for, but they are slowly piecing the clues together. First up Lloyd Garber who they figured was the redacted name on Elsbeth’s client list and while this might be clutching at straws I still think my Will Gardner theory is a possibility even if nothing in this episode points to the stuffed ballot box switch. The Good Wife 7.16 eliOver the course of this season Eli has spent a lot of time standing on his desk eavesdropping at a vents and he gets to put this skill into practice at the courthouse. Alicia inadvertently discovers that the vent in the bathroom can pick up dialogue coming from the room in which the grand jury is convened, but it is illegal for her to listen as both a lawyer and someone who is going to testify. For Eli it straddles the unethical/illegal line and we get to hear everything the way Eli does; it is muffled and at times the construction workers in the ladies bathroom can be heard and I love it when they mess with perspective in this way. It is frustrating for Eli, but he does manage to pick up some useful information namely that it is something from 2012 and the name Lock is important.

Like his ex-wife, Mike Tascioni has a very good way of unnerving and disarming people and he seemingly gives away all their strategy and clues. Instead he is using this to rattle their opponents and see whether they are investigating the right things. They believe Lock is a person and that he was someone that was put on trial for murder; the case ended in a mistrial and it is one from Cary’s time working at the DA’s office. Cary mentions to Eli that Lock had a top team of defense lawyers but they never did a source of funds. Lock’s father, whoever that might be could hold the key to this whole investigation. Or this is all a red herring and my Will Gardner theory is correct. The Good Wife 7.16 Diane and AliciaSpeaking of Will he comes up in conversation when Diane approaches Alicia about her long term plans for the firm. It turns out Cary and David Lee have a right to be concerned as Diane does have plans to push Cary out and bring Alicia in as a named partner again. Diane isn’t going after an all female firm, just all female named partners. Diane claims it is because she needs someone like Will and Cary is no Will. I am inclined to agree, but only because Cary has barely been given anything to do this season and not because I don’t think he is a good lawyer.

Diane thinks differently and on my list for these final episodes is for a decent storyline for both Diane and Cary. I’m not sure if this is the one I would go for and it is a bit of a bummer to see Diane turn her back on the person she championed from the start, but here we are. If this means more screentime for Diane and Alicia together then that will be one bonus at least. Post-Will funeral martinis included a discussion about this and I do think Will would be very much on board with Diane’s plan as Alicia’s comments to Lucca seemed to suggest. Even if she does an accidental Jason name slip and thereby reveals her recent activities to Lucca. Lucca at least doesn’t feel the conflict of this name mix up and instead is very happy that her friend is having fun.

For her part Lucca also thinks Alicia should tell Cary what Diane is planning even though Alicia appears to be leaning toward Diane’s suggestion; Alicia’s ambition lamp burns bright. For now she is going to turn her brain off and that means more Jason time, but she can’t ignore the knock at her door for too long.

In somewhat related news this is the style highlight from “Hearing” and when the pizza guy tries to mock him for his choice of robe, Jason delivers on the not giving a fuck response. The Good Wife 7.16 JasonAt this point in time it is hard to picture Jason getting either flustered or embarrassed. It is all fun and games at the moment, but I do wonder how Peter will react if/when he finds out and whether this is just a fling or something more.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

4 Mar

The final hurrah of award season is here with a look at the best of the Vanity Fair party where quite a few dresses were better than the ones worn to the actual Oscar ceremony. Plus funky street style, Paris Fashion Week and talk show appearance outfit joy.Alicia VikanderNow this is what I am talking about and while I liked Alicia Vikander’s Oscar dress it just didn’t have the all heart eyes emoji factor. If she had worn this super sexy sequin Louis Vuitton dress first there might have been declarations of it not bringing the woah factor, but I think my jaw would have been on the floor. It has all the cool vibes that Vikander normally brings with the best Oscar after party accessory. Elizabeth BanksElizabeth Banks knows how to bring it and once again the reaction I had to this dress was what was missing from most of the overall red carpet. Maybe she should have been at the awards ceremony too. A caped jumpsuit isn’t the easiest of looks to pull off, but Banks does just that in Ralph and Russo. If I didn’t already have a strong idea of what I want to wear to my wedding this year then this would provide amazing inspiration.Mindy KalingThe next three looks are also upgrades from what was worn on the Oscar red carpet and Mindy Kaling stuck to her black dress with a twist theme switching Elizabeth Kennedy for custom Salvador Perez. Perez as we have mentioned on a number of occasions is the Mindy Project costume designer and his creations highlight everything amazing about Kaling’s figure. I did also love Mindy’s day after the Oscars outfit.Priyanka ChopraPriyanka Chopra’s crystal embellished Jenny Packham ensemble hits all the right sparkle spots and this looks like the kind of outfit which might be worn for a super dramatic late ’70s soap opera moment; I am so here for that.Sophie TurnerWearing Galvan for both the Oscars and the after party and Sophie Turner’s second outfit is the standout thanks its bold color. The very cool thing about both gowns is they are made from sustainable materials to promote socially responsible fashionPatricia ClarksonThere is something so soothing about Patricia Clarkson and she is always someone I am very happy to see both on screen and the red carpet. Plunging floral embroidered Alberta Ferretti and a strong red lip is an instant yes. Kirsten DunstSpring is here! And yes it did snow this week, but the sun is shining now and Kirsten Dunst’s yellow floral frock is making me forget that I am still wearing an outfit entirely made up of various chunky knits.Kate Mara H&M PFWOn the flip side I’m still aware of just how cold it still is and Kate Mara’s summer dress getting hidden by a fabulous coat at the H&M Paris Fashion Week show makes so much sense to me right now. And now for a dress that straddles the winter/summer divide and Keri Russell is crushing it with her maternity style in Valentino on Late Night with Seth Meyers this week. In the interview they discussed The Americans (which is back in just over a week!), going and buying coffee while in costume, slapping people and Felicity. Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer also appeared on this episode in what is probably my dream talk show booking (watch the whole episode here).

Thanks to makeup artist Tina Turnbow we have a closer look at not only the exquisite floral detail of the dress and those amazing earrings, but also the striking purple eyes which is giving me flashbacks to this and one of my own personal favorite eyeliners (also thanks to Turnbow).

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

2 Mar

A mix of Oscars getting ready/parties/day after action with the usual TV set action plus a dash of Broadway in this week’s Instagram highlights.

Nothing made happier about Oscar night than the Alias reunion that took place at the Vanity Fair party. So thank you Victor Garber’s husband Rainer Andreesen for taking this photo and releasing it to the world.

One more because feelings.

What breakfast looks like on the morning of the Oscars. Always avocado on toast and some all important bacon.

And what dinner looks like after winning an Oscar. The Converse change makes Brie a girl after my own heart (I have a mystery huge bruise on my ankle which I’m putting down to wearing heels for the first time in 6 months).

In other pre-Oscars prep Sophie Turner opts for this simple tea with lemon and her invite shot.

Jacob Tremblay continues his adorable reign with these past and present shots with Sofia Vergara and super charming caption to boot. At the Oscars and after parties he got to hang out with several more Star Wars stars. Also adorable.

Chrissy Teigen was one of our Oscar best dressed and here is another view of her dress as she gets sewn into thing (and once again the bathroom question springs to mind).

A really good ad for Neutrogena as both Kerry Washington and Jennifer Garner look amazing (and are both on our best dressed list). Excellent on brand synergy here.

We’ve had Oscars getting dressed behind the scenes and now for a costuming one with Chloe Bennet getting help with her zip on Agents of SHIELD.

A super busy time for Saoirse Ronan with award season and Crucible rehearsals with previews starting Monday. So the day after the Oscars. That really is no break for Ronan. Tavi Gevinson captures the group recording and after reading Stacy Schiff’s The Witches last month I really want to check back in with The Crucible as I haven’t read it since high school.

Best of the 2016 Oscars Red Carpet: Black, White and Block Color

29 Feb

Welcome to more Oscar red carpet highlights and part 2 is all about classic black frocks with a twist and we’ve got leather, cute couples, Darth Vader socks and more.

For part 1 of our red carpet rundown head here.Jennifer GarnerA big weekend for Jennifer Garner and after that killer Vanity Fair profile (which I have definitely read more than once) she made a fabulous dress choice with Atelier Versace that reads “Don’t worry about me, I’m fine (and not in a way where I’m not actually fine).”

I have a lot of love for Garner and all I want is for a TV project to come along that is worthy of her talents and if she gets to use some of her Sydney Bristow skills then I am down for that.Julianne MooreJulianne Moore wears the ideal presenting gown in Chanel; simple and stunning. I think I might actually like it better than the Chanel she wore last year when she won.Mark RuffaloThe couple that wears Valentino together stays together. Mark Ruffalo’s custom tuxedo has him standing out in blue and wife Sunrise Coigney’s Valentino Couture gown is the magical sheer unicorn in that I actually really like.Michael Sheen and Sarah SilvermanI don’t have a whole lot to say about their outfits as they’ve both gone for solid classic looks, but I just really like them as a couple so here are Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen in their fancy threads. Kerry WashingtonA dress that looks better in motion and I am so here for a bit of leather on the Oscar red carpet; the bodice of Kerry Washington’s Versace frock is giving off great edge. My one issue is the giant slit and the Jolie posing as it really detracts from the rest of the gown. Washington is someone you can count on to pull out the big guns at an event like this and I can’t fault her bold choices when the overall outlook of the general red carpet is a little on the underwhelming side.Mindy KalingAnother dress with a caveat as Mindy Kaling’s Elizabeth Kennedy served up all the drama from the back and fell a bit flat from the front. This bow train is everything as are Kaling’s super stacked heels. That is a lot of inches.Brie LarsonAs with Alicia Vikander, Brie Larson was on the highly anticipated list and while there is a lot to love about this Gucci gown it doesn’t quite have the impact of her Golden Globes gold Calvin Klein or the Chanel she wore to the Independent Spirit Awards.

The color is fantastic and the combination of ruffles/pleats is definitely working for me, but it is lacking something. Regardless I am very happy Brie won and she delivered another fantastic speech.Cate BlanchettMy favorite thing about Cate Blanchett on the red carpet is you never know what you’re going to get, but you know it will be amazing. Amazing it is with Blanchett going fairy tale this year in floral Armani Privé.Tina FeyIn the battle of the strapless purple gowns Tina Fey is triumphant in Atelier Versace over Reese Witherspoon’s Oscar de la Renta similar choice. I guess it’s kinda awkward when something like this happens, but I also think this is a Tina Fey Top 5 red carpet moment.Rachel McAdamsAnother in the category of dresses that look better from a different angle and Rachel McAdams suffered in the crease department. However I love this shot which captures the drama of the emerald green August Getty Atelier dress.Jacob TremblayEnding things with the little dude of the hour and the suit is custom Armani, but it is the Darth Vader socks that are the most important accessory here.

Best of the 2016 Oscars Red Carpet: Sparkle and Pattern

29 Feb

Welcome to the final hurrah of awards season (well there are also still Vanity Fair after party photos to deal with) and after months of campaigning and many other red carpets the Oscars are here. Now I’m not going to say I was totally disappointed, underwhelmed perhaps as overall the Golden Globes and maybe even the SAGs had more standout dress moments. There was a lot to love this year, but not a whole lot that had that Oscar WOAH. No contenders to the Michelle Williams in yellow Vera Wang from 10 years ago.

There are still plenty of dresses to peruse and welcome to part 1 of our highlights – kicking off with all the sparkly delights.Saoirse RonanSaoirse Ronan delivered the first WOW reaction of the night in emerald Calvin Klein Collection and it is giving me Keira Knightley Atonement dress feelings with a 1970s sequin twist. That is a very good thing.Naomi Watts and Liev SchreiberMore sequins and a gown that looks just as stunning in motion as it does in these posed photos; Naomi Watts is onto a winner in Armani Privé and Liev Schreiber is doing the classic tux thing (for dudes in exciting suits check out the style highlights from the Independent Spirit Awards).Margot RobbiePlunging gold snakeskin for Margot Robbie and this is another dress that is giving off so many 1970s vibes and in not so shocking news I am very much here for this decade’s strong influence.Sandy PowellSound the #LadySuitWatch2016 klaxon and costume designer Sandy Powell (no E! this is not Tilda) does not disappoint in a year when she has been nominated not once, but twice (for Carol and Cinderella – see photos from a Cinderella exhibit here). Amy PoehlerWhen I first saw Amy Poehler in Andrew Gn I snap judgement declared this my favorite ever red carpet look for her and the morning after I still feel the same. Love the embroidery and the drama. Plus a caped sleeve is always going to hit my sweet spot.Alicia VikanderIt has been a season of big hitters for the always fashion forward and adventurous Alicia Vikander so I was a little disappointed with what Louis Vuitton made for her very big night. Don’t get me wrong it is a lovely gown (bubble hem aside), but it’s not the triumphant levels we saw at the SAGs. I feel greedy for wanting more.

I am glad she won (even if it should have been for Ex-Machina) and I’m really looking forward to seeing what she does both on screen and on the red carpet in the not too distant future. Shout-out to the woman in silver sequins in the background as she looks fabulous.Daisy RidleyAnother recent red carpet big hitter and Daisy Ridley crushed the Star Wars press tour on every level. Chanel Couture is a great step although I am not in love with the sheer trim, but Ridley is certainly working the awkward length and gets those all important lipstick points. John Legend and Chrissy TeiganChrissy Teigen posted a photo on Instagram of final Oscar prep which included getting sewn into her dress – standard fancy gown procedure which always has me wondering about trips to the bathroom – and she looks incredible in rose embroidered Marchesa. John Legend as always scrubs up very well.Juliet RylanceAnother incredible embroidered creation and Juliet Rylance’s Temperley London frock gives off a very fresh vibe. Rylance was there with her father Mark Rylance and his Best Supporting Actor speech was one of my favorites from the night. Such grace and humility. Plus that wonderful accent. Now I am also wondering whether we will get any more of The Knick as I have so many hopes for Cornelia.

Stay tuned for part 2 of our Oscar coverage.

Best of the 2016 Independent Spirit Awards Red Carpet: Dudes in Suits and Couples

28 Feb

Now for the guys and the Independent Spirit Awards delivers on more than just your average black tuxedo with a variety of suit styles and colors. Plus we’ve got some very well dressed couples.

For a look at the many amazing bold and patterned dress plus a new #LadySuitWatch2016 entry head here.Kumail NanjianiAs co-host, Kumail Nanjiani has gone the mostly traditional route, but switches out black for navy and looks dapper as fuck.Jacob TremblayIf you’d told me 6 months ago that a 9-year-old boy would be one of the best dressed stars of this season I would have probably scoffed at the notion. Cue present day and Jacob Tremblay has been showing all the adults how it is done; from sports jackets to tuxedos and now he is nailing the colored suit/bold tie combo.Abrahamm Atta and Cary FukanagaAbraham Attah is also crushing it when it comes to sartorial choices of younger dudes and the 15-year-old Beasts of No Nation star and Best Actor winner delivers in the polka dot bow tie and cool suit department. Oh hey there Cary Fukunaga! Working the lighter suit/dark shirt styling with aplomb. I do miss his glasses/longer hair.Idris ElbaThe hat isn’t completely detracting from all the wonderful things about Idris Elba’s ensemble, but it certainly isn’t doing it any favors. Gonna give him a pass though because he is Idris.

Rami MalekRami Malek continues to kill it on every red (or blue) carpet and this burgundy Calvin Klein suit is multiple heart eye/flames/100 emoji levels of amazing. Shout out to stylist Ilaria Urbinati for the amazing suits she picks for him.Mark Duplass and Katie AseltonA couple of couples and Mark Duplass and Katie Aselton are regular Independent Spirit Awards attendees and they have the whole super cool aesthetic down. Also very much into Duplass’ salt and pepper beard.Zoe Kazan and Paul DanoLast month Zoe Kazan gave an interesting insight into the whole award season process and gave high praise to the talented stylists who give us so much to talk about during this fashion heavy time. Leith Clark has picked out another fantastic dress that is giving me 1960s wedding vibes and as this is the final event on Paul Dano’s nomination calendar this season it makes sense to go out with a super cute bang. Excellent suit choice for Dano too.
