Shows back from summer hiatus while others come closer to their end. Plus cast reunions, dancing, fancy dinners at the White House and more from this week’s TV Instagram highlights.
You’re the Worst returns this month – August 31 – and I cannot wait; just look at these faces. All the heart emojis. Catch up on Hulu now and in the meantime I will be listening to this season 2 credits music playlist to get in the mood.
But wait! There is more You’re the Worst cast antics on Instagram and I spy sunglasses to covet on Aya Cash’s head.
Keeping with the sunglasses trend and adding a big dose of “holy crap this is adorable” from Lucy Liu with her son Rockwell on the set of Elementary.
Fun getting ready pictures of Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys’ trip to the White House last night from hair stylist Brian Magallones. Cue every Russian spy joke ever and it would appear that the Obamas are fans of The Americans as they scored a prime spot at the state dinner table. Excellent dress choice by Keri Russell and a nice prelude to the Emmys next month.
Sometimes a hiatus beard happens (see Matthew Rhys) and other times in between seasons a different dye job is the thing (or this could be work related). Regardless, from this obscured shot the blonde looks great on Sophie Turner.
While we’re on the subject of Game of Thrones here is a fun reunion.
This is actually from the Fast and Furious set, but Tormund would look great with a wolfie of his own as this photo shows.
It can be dangerous as well as super stylish on the set of BrainDead.
OITNB cast closeness continues even when one of them is away.
I am so glad I am all caught up on iZombie for a number of reasons. One is that I get to enjoy these delightful “behind the brains” shenanigans.
Oh there’s more dancing.
And sneaky eating. Craft service would easily be my downfall. Just look at all those pastries.
There have been a lot of missteps on UnREAL this season including keeping Rachel and Quinn apart and at loggerheads. The end of this week’s episode included a really satisfying moment that doesn’t erase everything that has come before it, but it felt good to see them together again. Also this is a really nice photo of Constance Zimmer and Shiri Appleby.
Joining the shows that are no longer on summer break; New Girl.
Last Man on Earth is also back from hiatus and January Jones continues her reign as Insta Queen.
While other shows are nearing their very end.
And in shows/onscreen pairings that I miss we have Diane Kruger and Demián Bichir back on The Bridge.
For a closer look at some of the Emmy nominated costumes including this personal fave head to the Costume Designers Guild Awards page for a lot more treats.
This photo of Michiel Huisman led to a very fun conversation about dudes in sweaters on Twitter last week and I thank him for that much needed break from work.
Continuing on from yesterday’s Met Gala highlights we’ve got some getting ready and Gala hangout offerings. Plus more from the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner and the Girls ladies get back to work for their final season.
Still the dress moment of the evening and it is worth seeing Claire Danes in all her glowing glory once again.
And here it is in the early stages.
I have so many questions about the bathroom situation considering the size/constricted nature of some of the gowns (going short seems like a wise choice) and as somehow who has talked about how much they love the use of bathrooms particularly in teen shows, I am so here for this.
As with this Lady Gaga in the background facial expression I am also obsessed with what Jemima Kirke is thinking in this moment.
This was another favorite look of the night and Danai Gurira is a spectacular force on the red carpet, as Michonne on The Walking Dead and as a writer. There is another reason for Gurira to celebrate this week as her play Eclipsed received six Tony nominations including writing and for best play.
One thing I love about Instagram and fashion posts is the detail you get to appreciate that wouldn’t normally come across in red carpet shots. Case in point the parts of SJP’s Hamilton inspired look.
This is also magical.
That is definitely a stacked shoe and a whole lot of woah from Mindy Kaling’s footwear.
Peering behind the getting ready curtain with Allison Williams.
Now for her day job and after its best season yet, the Girls team are back to work.
More from Girls and I do love a good use of photoshop with actual old photos of the actors involved.
Now for more White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner including this delightful shot of Michelle Dockery on her way to the event. I adore her yellow Cushnie Et Ochs gown.
This also makes me very happy.
Elevator magic from Abbi and Ilana.
They also found recent Broad City guest star Tracee Ellis Ross gifting us with this selfie.
Jessica Jones cast hangouts courtesy of the Netflix screening event last night. Also reminding me that I still have over half a season of Daredevil to watch.
If you only follow one stylist on Instagram make it Ilaria Urbinati for lots of dudes in suits treats such as this Scott Speedman delight and plenty of ladies looking amazing (including Krysten Ritter from the event in the previous photo).
This is wonderful and bizarre. Thank you, Jessica Chastain.
A very special visit from the woman who inspired Olivia Pope.
While I’m on the subject of very special visitors; the cast of The Crucible were graced with the presence of the one and only Stevie Nicks.
Other significant post-play important hangouts of the week and now I have all the feelings.
Welcome to this week’s installment of “Behind the Insta-Scenes” and we’ve got sartorial highs, set shenanigans and some very cute animals to share with you.
Someone needs to make a movie with these three ladies as triplets. Tom Cullen has already come up with the tagline. Please and thank you.
When the Mr Robot dudes go away for SXSW the ladies get their puzzle on.
Lupita Nyong’o serving up every level of fashion BAMF and turning the backstage area of Late Night with Seth Meyers into her very own runway.
I love Aya Cash so much.
Not one, but three kittens! Thank you Brooklyn Nine-Nine for this furry treat.
And not to forget all the dog lovers – Constance Zimmer showing off this little cutie on the set of UnREAL. And now I’m wondering what manipulative role this puppy will be playing.
By now you will probably know how much I love it when co-stars hangout off set and this is the perfect example of that. All the warm feelings
Also here for random encounters like this one with Chris Noth walking by the Girls set and getting accosted by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner (also understandable).
I haven’t caught any Vinyl yet, but I can see how incredible Bobby Canavale’s hair is and how much work it takes to get the look.
Another amazing Mindy Project costume moment and a really great spring romper from Moschino.
Ariana Grande did a superb job on SNL this week accidental swear and all. And now I have This is Not A Feminist Song” stuck in my head for at least another three more days.
Greg Williams has one of the best celebrity photography Instagram accounts and the access he gets at events like Letters Live lends to some very intimate moments; including this amazing shot of Gillian Anderson peaking from behind the curtain.
PaleyFest is in full swing and this week’s “Out of the Box” is dedicated to the style highs from the Scandal, The Good Wife, Broad City, Outlander, Homeland and Girls panels. The line between casual/fancy is blurred at these types of events and on the whole it is probably best to remember there will be a lot of sitting down photos after the obligatory red carpet posing. Red carpet is where our focus lies, but first a moment of panel facial expression joy.
This shot of Julianna Margulies and Christine Baranski is everything and I’m pretty sure their laughter could power buildings.
A very fun look from Kerry Washington in Mary Katrantzou, which is all textured goodness including a sequined bodice and delightful collar. The pop of yellow and a darker lip color really makes this outfit sing.
Another Scandal style high with Darby Stanchfield wearing a whole lot red in a 2nd Skin Co. super sparkly frock. This is an occasion where bold lip color is not needed as that would be a shade red too far.
Patterns ahoy from Lena Dunham in Tanya Taylor and Jenni Konner working metallic color explosion with a black sweater and looking fantastic in the process.
Relaxed cool from Abbi Jacobson at the Comedy Central panel in this not quite polka dot sleeveless shirt.
Looking a whole lot like the tuxedo inspired jumpsuit Maya Rudolph wore at the SNL 40th anniversary is Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe. A reminder to catch up with Outlander before it returns coupled with the desire to finally try a jumpsuit on at some point in the near future.
Leaving Claire Danes in Proenza Schouler until last because I’m pretty sure this can be filed under “Danes Style Blindness” as the snakeskin strip of random is a whole lot of what? and yet I also think she has pulled it off. Like I said this is a case of “Danes Style Blindness” – the phenomenon to describe someone who you think looks amazing no matter what they are wearing.
Bonus “Out of the Box” this week with this magazine cover special.
