Pre-SAG Awards parties and movie premieres deliver plenty of colorful and patterned wonders in this week’s edition of “Look of the Week.”
Getting so many disco vibes from Kristen Wiig’s rainbow Swarovski infused Rosie Assoulin dress at the Zoolander 2 premiere with bonus sparkly Christian Louboutin pumps. This is a really good look on her. 
At the Zoolander 2 photocall in Rome, Justin Theroux looks very Kevin Garvey goes out for a nice dinner and I am here for it. This buttoned up polo is also very much in Theroux’s clothing wheelhouse and yep I am here for it.
Super cute floral mini Giambattista Valli for Alexandra Daddario at the premiere for the new Nicholas Sparks movie The Choice (a movie I will no doubt watch at some point). 
Blam! Laverne Cox is smoking hot in Michael Costello at the Entertainment Weekly pre-SAG Awards party.
The Orange is the New Black cast came out strong for SAG weekend at the awards (of which they won both ensemble and actress in a comedy), pre parties and after the affair. This color is great on Samira Wiley giving her plenty of reasons to smile.
Going a little bit mod at the EW pre-SAGs party with a contemporary twist and Sophie Turner nailed it twice this week (three times if you count this excellent photo with Ryan Gosling).

Best of the 2016 SAG Awards Red Carpet Part 2
31 JanWe’re back with more SAG Awards style highs including menswear, the Orange is the New Black cast and even more bold color.

The man of the hour and double SAG Award winner Idris Elba (in both TV and movie categories) looking cool as fuck backstage with his two trophies.
9 year-old Jacob Tremblay is a tuxedo wearing expert by now and this three piece is another hit to add to every other one he worn so far. The adorable factor also remains strong.
Rami Malek is another repeat customer to these ‘best of’ awards posts and he ditches Dior for double-breasted Ovadia & Sons. Terrific pocket square pattern detail too. Stylist Ilaria Urbinati continues to do stellar work.
Laverne Cox goes full Grecian in a wine color Prabal Gurung and this side shot gives an excellent view of the dramatic caped element (always a fave).
The color looks great on Uzo Aduba – winning again for Best Comedy Actress – and I am always in the bag for pleats so this Zac Posen gown definitely does it for me.
I love everything about this group shot of the Orange is the New Black cast on stage together after winning Best Comedy.
One of the standout pattern gowns comes courtesy of Ellie Kemper in Peter Pilotto. Once again I do think this would benefit from a bold red lip.
I will never get bored of these two at these things even if I do miss Hugh Dancy’s Will Graham curls. The block blue Stella McCartney gown is a little flattening, but the color is great on Claire Danes. Gonna change the record and suggest a hot pink lip to set the look off.
A different play on red for Anna Faris in Naeem Khan looking super hot with a contrasting demure neckline and high leg slit.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week
15 JanA red carpet heavy week with pre-Globes, other awards, the main event, after parties and TCA with some people pretty much attending all of these. We’re going to concentrate on mostly TCA and after party sartorial delights with a dash of the Marie Claire Image Makers celebration.
Rami Malek takes the crown for best dressed dude this week slaying in everything from his button upped style to looking super sharp in Dior Homme at the Golden Globes. Stylist Ilaria Urbinati is one of my favorites especially when it comes to menswear and she gave a rundown of the getting ready process for GQ, which includes Rami in a very lovely striped sweater. At the Mr Robot TCA panel he shows that he can also do the suit with tie thing in Calvin Klein rounding off this excellent week.
Mr Robot is also killing it in the lady style stakes and Carly Chaikin’s AFI floral number was another high point of this very busy period (see also Portia Doubleday’s Golden Globes disco ball frock). Chaikin’s got another winner here in polka dot Jill Stuart and this is when a little bit of sheer totally works.
In surprising good news from the USA Network panel it was announced yesterday that Playing House has been renewed for a third season and I’m so happy about this as I really need more of this wonderful show. Bold block colors were on trend at the Golden Globes and creators/stars Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham both look fabulous in this style choice.
A classic floral frock for Juliette Lewis at the Disney/ABC TCA day and a very muted prelude to the cracked out brilliance of what she would be wearing later that day.
Ultimate Kristen Stewart red carpet attire at the first annual Marie Claire Image Makers event and everything about this from the coat to the metallic detail on her Sally LaPointe is perfect. Stewart was there to honor makeup artist Jillian Dempsey and her hair stylist Adir Abergel was also getting recognized.
The length is awkward, but this color looks amazing on How to Get Away with Murder’s Aja Naomi King. Plus it has pockets!
I know I’ve already written about Maggie Gyllenhaal’s art deco looking Marc Jacobs dress (which I still adore), but I couldn’t resist this Honourable Woman reunion with Tobias Menzies at the HBO Golden Globes after party.
So here for the size of Gaby Hoffmann’s hair – Ali’s hair on Transparent in season 2 reaches new heights of everything – her dress, which at first I thought might be a jumpsuit and Carrie Brownstein’s oh so amazing patterned frock/general super cool vibe. Amazon Head of Comedy Joe Lewis looks rather pleased and swish at the Amazon Golden Globes celebration and I’m guessing that has a little something to do with the Mozart in the Jungle double win.
Oh HBO, your backdrop is like the wallpaper I wish I had, but would immediately regret and it very much works with Laverne Cox switching one incredible white gown for another in custom Mark Zunino; adding her to the list of caped wonders.
And this is where the choice of posing wall pattern makes it feel like you are looking at a Magic Eye picture and therefore giving me a rage induced headache because I could never see the sailboat or whatever. I do like Kathryn Hahn’s dress despite the optical obstacle.
Ending on Transparent chaos and another angle of this shot. Kathryn Hahn’s pose/face is everything. This looks like the later hours at a wedding.
Best of the Golden Globes 2016 Red Carpet: Black and White
11 JanBlack and white frocks don’t have to be the safe choice as this next collection of Golden Globes 2016 red carpet highlights demonstrate.
Laverne Cox is gasp worthy in Elizabeth Kennedy serving all levels of drama from her gown to her makeup.
SO MANY CAPES THIS YEAR! All caps needed because Emilia Clarke’s Valentino gown is a vampy turn I did not expect from her.
And for a softer caped turn we have Saoirse Ronan in ethereal Yves Saint Laurent couture.
One of the ‘surprising not so surprising’ wins of the evening came from Lady Gaga (who thanked Matt Bomer first because who wouldn’t?) and she looks like a movie star from the 50s in custom Atelier Versace.
I know some were underwhelmed by Alicia Vikander’s apron style pleated Louis Vuitton, but I am so here for it as it matches her general super chill vibe. And I think she will go big at the Oscars.
This Alexander McQueen is a little witchy boudoir from Caitriona Balfe, but I am also enjoying this twist on a black gown.
A train looks incredible, but it can also cause logistical problems with people standing on it as Taraji P. Henson found out when she went up to collect Best Actress; so I can see why she changed out of this Stella McCartney wonder for the after parties. It looks incredible here as she poses with her Golden Globe.
Valentino featured big on our end of year “Look of the Week” posts and this is another excellent frock from this fashion house with Kirsten Dunst going full cleav. It is a shame she didn’t win for her Fargo role, but hopefully another project in the future will mean more Dunst on TV.

America Ferrera looking terrific for the crazy early Golden Globes announcement (my live stream kept buffering so I didn’t get to see a whole lot of Ferrera presenting, I did get to see Dennis Quaid pronounce “Saoirse”) and this dress definitely falls into the ‘perfect for announcing award nominations’ category (if there is one).
So this is definitely a guest star spoiler which is why I have buried it in the middle of the post and I love how Jessica Jones got their Daredevil fill in this way. Firstly we need more Rosario Dawson on TV and secondly it worked very well for the narrative. And look how happy they both are.

23 OctThe red carpet is awash with bold looks this week from PaleyFest, the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards and a variety of other events delivering sartorial highs.
As promised here is Tatiana Maslany at the Orphan Black PaleyFest panel wearing a fabulous Roksanda ruffled jumpsuit with color clashing red pumps. This is one way to brighten up a classic look with excellent results.
Another jumpsuit twist with Diane Kruger sporting a quilted look from the Balmain x H&M collection event. I have a feeling this might be a Magical Fashion Unicorn situation with Kruger and it falls into my own personal ‘jumpsuits are awkward’ category. Very much into Zachary Quinto’s chevron sweater and they look like they’re attending a super hip party in the 1970s, which might include a bowl of keys.
A gold pleated sparkly treat from Laverne Cox wearing Alice + Olivia at the One Life/Live Them event and this is getting added to the festive party ideas list. It was announced this week that Cox is going to star in the new Rocky Horror Picture Show TV remake and I am suddenly more interested in this project.
Take two for Roksanda this week and another signature color blocking delight. Olivia Wilde also choose to give the outfit an extra pop of wow with red pumps; she balances the look out by opting for minimalist makeup and accessories at The Headstrong Project’s 3rd annual Word of War event in New York.
Now entering the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards section kicking off with Ashley Madekwe in Calvin Klein Collection teaming leather with what looks like a sweater and I am so here for this mix of edgy and comfy. So happy sweater season is firmly here.
Alicia Vikander is serving up casual cool in, you guessed it Louis Vuitton – the current print ad campaign is fabulous – and this is one fashion partnership I can’t get enough of. And now I’m left wondering what Raf Simons departure will do in regards to JLaw and the HUGE final Hunger Games press tour, which is fast approaching.
Pow! Ahna O’Reilly in what would be an ideal (if a little on the nose) dress for something like Comic-Con and it also works like a super fun charm at this celebratory event.
Red shoes are so on point this week with America Ferrera pairing her patent Kurt Geiger pumps with electric blue Novis and all these bright and bold “Out of the Box” looks have put me in a wonderful mood.
Best of the Emmy Red Carpet – Bold Color and Print
21 SepPink was not the only color on the Emmy red carpet and this is one of the brightest and boldest displays in recent years with a lot less monochromatic offerings. We’ve given you sparkle, now here are some patterned treats.
Ellie Kemper didn’t get nominated for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but she more than makes up for this in a stunning multi-color Naeem Khan dress; definitely a top 5 pick.
Between Ellie Kemper and Zoe Kazan I am getting rather mesmerized by their frocks; Kazan’s red and white Miu Miu is perfect for her twee styling, which I adore. Red lipstick points ahoy!

Canary gowns will forever have to stand up to the Best Oscar Gown and Mindy Kaling’s custom Salavador Perez is definitely striking and the highlight of the 2015 Emmy yellow frock push.
The pattern, cut and color is gorgeous on Lauren Lapkus and I would love it if she returned to Orange is the New Black.
Kristen Schaal and Lauren Lapkus could definitely play sisters and someone should get on that. Meanwhile Kristen Schaal is resplendent in shimmering Rubin Singer.

Going for big colorful ball gown Oscar de la Renta and Maggie Gyllenhaal doesn’t over accessorize this already dramatic look.
We’ve entered the “I don’t know why Dior keep doing this” portion and I’m including this to show that Kiernan Shipka is very much a Magical Fashion Unicorn, but she deserves so much better than this.
The same can be said for January Jones and she is certainly working the Ulyana Sergeenko Couture jumpsuit, but the draping is causing me to pull all kinds of confused faces. The color and brooch are stunning and yet I really wish this was a dress or a slightly more tailored jumpsuit.
In fact from behind it looks better and this shot with former co-star Elisabeth Moss is giving me all the feelings.
A twirling dream from Danielle Brooks in pleated custom Christian Siriano. Whenever I wear a pleated skirt or dress I spend half my day twirling. I don’t get much done.
The cut of Emily Robinson’s Kayat gown reminds me of Caitlin Fitzgerald at the Golden Globes and it is working just as well for Robinson in this delicate print.
Best couple alert! A fun floral contrast from Chelsea Peretti in Gabriela Cadena and Jordan Peele doing the standard tuxedo thing.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week
7 AugTCA continues and so do the cute patterned frocks on this week’s “Out of the Box.” a dash of a couple of other events and magazine covers.
This kind of reminds me of a colorful version of the wallpaper in Sherlock’s 221b Baker Street, which doesn’t necessarily sound like the compliment it is meant to be. Kerry Washington looks great in Mary Katrantzou at the ABC day at TCA.
Viola Davis was also part of the TGIT panel at TCA and she switched out her heels for far more comfy looking flats for the photocall. They might not completely go with this patterned cocktail dress, but I’m all for her continuing this trend.
There is a lot going on here with Elizabeth Henstridge in House of Holland and yet it manages to stay this side of psychedelic experiment. It feeds into everything I love about a very 70s sleeping bag I once had (but with less orange/brown). Once again this doesn’t sound like the good thing I was intending it too.
This outfit is super cute and Camilla Luddington’s lipstick blouse gets added to the list of clothes I need with a makeup motif. Maybe I need to change this to “What Lipstick Top is She Wearing?”

At the Transparent panel they announced the season 2 premiere date (December 4!) and Jay Duplass ditched the top button done up styling of his character Josh, while Judith Light is a vision in white.
The Downton Abby cast are starting their final hurrah and Joanne Froggatt stood out at the TCA photocall in Ermanno Scervino’s fun take on houndstooth adding a pop of color with red strappy sandals.
At the Empire panel on Thursday Taraji P. Henson went for simple chic in a long sleeve Cushnie et Ochs teal dress adding oomph to this look with embellished Alaïa sandals.
Moving onto the Ricki and the Flash premiere with Christine Baranski killing it off screen as much as she does when she is Diane Lockhart.
A very fun twist to the standard mini dress from Laverne Cox in Elizabeth & James paired with studded white Louboutins. This blue is really great on her as is the vampy shade of red lipstick.
Christina Applegate goes for 70s inspired plunging glam in a stunning Naeem Khan at the 5th Annual Celebration of Dance Gala presented by the Dizzy Feet Foundation.
Idris Elba is the first guy to appear on the cover of Maxim (this fact surprised me) and boy did they pick a very striking cover image. Never before have I considered buying this magazine, but they might have me with this fantastic editorial including Idris wearing so many good coats.
There’s no mistaking who the cover star of Variety’s female showrunner issue is this week with Jenji Kohan’s recognizable specs and colorful hair. This quote from The Affair’s Sarah Treem really resonates “This is not about rah-rah girl power. This is about advice on how to literally run a show and adapt to what you’re given in a way that can make it work. “It’s helpful to have people tell you you’re not crazy to be struggling with it, and also helpful to have people tell you you have to adjust the way you’re working.”
A couple of week’s ago I mentioned how my teenage love for Kirsten Dunst was likely to resurface as a result of Fargo season 2 and as if on schedule upon seeing her editorial in the September issue of Town & Country I clapped with glee upon seeing the photos. There’s a little 70s styling in the woodland shots which is entirely appropriate given the setting. In the interview Dunst mentions how she got some helpful advice regarding the TV transition:
“TV is a lot harder than film. A lot harder. When I got the part, my friend Lizzy [Caplan], who is on Masters of Sex, said, ‘Be sure to get B12 shots to get you through the week.’ I was like, ‘Really? That sounds very dramatic, Lizzy.’ By the third week I was all over the B12. It was one of the best roles I’ve ever played—the writing is spectacular—but by the end I was tapped out.”
Dunst also briefly discusses her Fargo character Peggy Blomquist “She is very much like me at my craziest, my mother at her craziest, my grandma at her craziest. I could really combine the nutsiest parts of the women in my family.”
