Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

27 Jan

My Name is Jonas” has been stuck in my head all week and there is a very obvious reason for this as social media has been awash with a blizzard by a certain name. So yes, plenty of snow pics from this edition of Behind the Insta-Scenes. Plus Sundance, red lipstick (insert emoji here), guests stars, that touted Friends reunion and more.

Snow plus dogs equals all the adorable especially when the dog is also dressed for the occasion. Cush Jumbo’s fur hood/gloves/big scarf continues the theme of all things winter wear this week on TV Ate My Wardrobe.

Russell Tovey’s dog Rocky has snow shoes and I can’t even with how cute this is. Rocky does not seem thrilled by this weather.

Diane Kruger attempts a potentially perilous jump in the air snow pic and if I attempted this the likelihood of sticking the landing would be slim. Excellent coats and mittens choice (wouldn’t expect anything less). What we really want to know is who took the photo?

Enjoying the snow also in style is Joshua Jackson. Same question – who took the pic? (This one looks like it could be a selfie)

Not often you get to stand in the middle of a New York road like this. Got to take these opportunities where you can.

Drew Barrymore also has the same idea and everyone is killing it with their coat game.

As is Mark Ruffalo.

Yep there really was a lot of snow as this video from Justin Theroux shows.

It’s not all outdoor adventures for Justin Theroux and craft day with Amy Sedaris sounds truly magical.

And back.

Popcorn selfies that also need the lipstick emoji because Jenny Slate and Zoe Kazan have picked their color well. Can it survive the movie snacks? The true test of a good product.

While we’re on the subject of amazing lip color…

We can’t not include the TV Insta photo that has been making all the headlines this week even if this isn’t a complete Friends reunion.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BA3GOAAwiTE/?taken-by=johnmulaney

This is definitely too much tune. Also I wonder how often this happens to John Mulaney and Nick Kroll.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BA8nRayyav1/?taken-by=americaferrera

Fair.

Jane the Virgin and My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend both returned this week and to celebrate the casts had a joint viewing party.

Broad City is back in under a month (February 17!) and this just got me even more excited.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BA-n_qCAVKN/?taken-by=grantgust

Grant Gustin knows he has no chill.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BA-bYsqFBlM/?taken-by=interviewmag

Get ready for more Rami Malek in Dior. A brand which has already served him very well.

This Scandal director has me all kinds of excited.

From TCA part 1 of a catch me if you can shot with Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich.

And part 2 (it looks better in grid formation on Instagram), Photographer Maarten de Boer also has a whole lot of excellent Sundance pics.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week – Best of 2015 Part 2

31 Dec

We have written about a lot of outfits both on and off screen this year and the 2015 Best Of series turns its attention toward our Look of the Week column, which has featured a whole host of red carpet appearances, magazine covers/editorial styling and many other sartorially infused events. And this is the second part of our “Out of the Box” rundown showcasing our favorites from a very stylish year (head here for Part 1).

Best ‘For Your Consideration’ Ad

Gina RodriguezSomehow Gina Rodriguez did not get nominated for an Emmy this year, which based on her performance and this incredible ‘For Your Consideration’ ad blows my mind. Ladysuit excellence.

Best Twirl

LupitaAnother fantastic year for Lupita Nyong’o on the red carpet and in fashion magazines with this Gucci dress twirl at Cannes giving plenty of 2014 Oscar flashbacks. Plus it proves that if you wear pleats there will always be the urge to whirl. Now for someone to cast her in a lead role please.

Best Peplum

Tatiana MaslanyIt is well documented that I have jumpsuit issues (more on myself than anyone else) and adding peplum opens up a whole world of potential concerns, but this Roksanda number (a brand we heart) is beating the odds and it might help that Tatiana Maslany is the one wearing it. The red pumps do clash with the colored waistband, but this is totally working for me.

Best White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner

Gillian JacobsMixing 70s cool with Old Hollywood glam in Peter Pilotto at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner is Gillian Jacobs showing exactly why she is an “Out of the Box” regular.

Best Ladies on a Ladysuit

Mae Whitman and Mamie GummerOr rather Mae Whitman wears the “Boob Suit” by Rachel Antonoff at a Refinery 29 event and I adore the irreverence of the ensemble. Whitman is killing it with her red lipstick choice and Mamie Gummer’s coat skirts bathrobe territory without stepping on the Dude’s toes. Excellent boots and jeans pairing.

Best Floral

Aubrey Plaza2015 is the year we said goodbye to TV Ate My Wardrobe style icon April Ludgate, but there is still plenty of Aubrey Plaza sartorial brilliance including this color blast floral Suno mini dress at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Best Stripes

Kirsten DunstChevron striped Gucci for Kirsten Dunst and it is 70s inspired without feeling like it is from Peggy Blumquist’s wardrobe. Another platonic ideal of an outfit.

Best Sheer

Naomie HarrisThis year has been awash with a lot of bad sheer; turning a good outfit into a scrolldown nightmare. However, there are always exceptions to the rule such as this Valentino starry eyed number and Naomie Harris crushed the Spectre promo tour.

Best Magazine Cover Part 2

Fashion was all about the 70s and I don’t think I need to mention again how much I adore the looks from this decade, but this WSJ Carey Mulligan cover/editorial is pretty much the dream. Also more Valentino with this jacket and across the two Out of the Box Best of 2015 posts they are the most featured brand. Good work, Valentino!

Best Black and White

Kiernan Shipka InterviewAnother year of Kiernan Shipka dressing much better than me and it is hard to believe she only turned 16 last month. This Interview shot captures her fashion cool without a) dressing her older than her age and b) putting her in something she wouldn’t actually wear.

Most on Point Dress Part 2

Gwendoline ChristieThis is still the photo on my phone lockscreen and I can’t get enough of Gwendoline Christie in her Captain Phasma infused Giles Deacon dress for the ‘Force 4 Fashion’ Bloomingdales charity event.

Best Sundance Cool

Jessica WilliamsJessica Williams is still our favorite Daily Show correspondent and she is also slaying on the Sundance portrait front showing off the vital boots/tights/thick socks combination.

Most Precarious Walk

Keri Russell heelsLess weather appropriate is Keri Russell in a very snowy/icy New York on her way to The Today Show back in January. I could barely walk in these Alaïa sandals in the best weather conditions and it would very much be a Bambi on ice situation. The rest of the outfit is terrific including the rose covered Victoria Beckham skirt and there are strong coat feelings going on right now. If only it was currently cold enough to wear outerwear like this.

Best Couple

Diane Kruger and Joshua JacksonPushing recent tabloid rumors aside it has been another really strong year for Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson on the red carpet. This is another occasion of Kruger as the Magical Fashion Unicorn as I’m not sure there are many who could pull off this cutout vintage Roland Mouret ensemble and Joshua Jackson scrubs up nicely at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. Let’s hope there is more of this in 2016.

Best TCA Pairing

Mad Men TCAPete and Peggy feeeeeelings are happening because of this winter TCA Elisabeth Moss and Vincent Kartheiser moment. I’m so glad the final season of Mad Men addressed their relationship in this manner. Plus more red pumps <3.

Best ‘Could be Related’

Liv Tyler and Margaret QualleyIt might be the matching luscious brunette locks and similar attire, but Liv Tyler and Margaret Qualley gave off a related to each other vibe at the season 2 premiere of The Leftovers. Now that would be a season 3 twist.

Happy New Year! And here’s to many more sartorial highs in 2016.

Best of TV Costuming 2015: The Collection

29 Dec

As 2015 comes to a close we should take a moment to think of all the TV we have watched and avoid dwelling on the ever growing list of things to catch up on. There is plenty to look forward to in the first few months of the new year including The X-Files revival (of which I have no chill about), Agent Carter (next week!), Broad CityAmerican Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson (which looks like every level of ridiculous/amazing) and The Americans.

For now let’s bask in the best of 2015 and for your easy perusal here are all of our costuming, music and red carpet essays/posts in one place.

The Americans 3.10 Philip and Elizabeth - CopyRemoving Disguises and Revealing the Truth on The Americans

Our number one show of the year if we were to rank these things in list form and The Americans took everything from season 2 and kicked it up a gear from tension levels to secrets which were shared. The costuming was as intricate as ever balancing disguises with Philip and Elizabeth’s everyday attire with some shocking moments which featured the removal of some of these items. New levels of intimacy were reached in a scene which took at home dentistry to the extreme which had me both transfixed while also half covering my eyes.

You're the WorstThe Music Monday Edition – You’re The Worst

This has been an incredible year for music on TV with final scenes and end credit offerings hitting sublime notes from many shows. You’re the Worst went big this year in their storyline choices and the music that accompanied the many crushing moments; adding to these highly emotive scenes in the way a soundtrack should. We’ve got the perfect playlist for you to end 2015 on.

Hanibal 3.09 Alana and WillAlana Bloom – Queen of Ladysuits on Hannibal

#LadySuitWatch2015 was a big thing here at TV Ate My Wardrobe and Alana Bloom’s season 3 change of style on Hannibal took this trend to new and amazing heights.

Mad Men 7.12 Queen Peggy Peggy B - sunglassesBookending the 70s with Mad Men and Fargo or a Tale of Two Peggys

The 1970s is my favorite fashion decade (for reasons) and Mad Men and Fargo captured the beginning and end of this period in very different ways. Two characters called Peggy both stood out and while they are worlds apart they both capture everything I love about the styling of this period.

Broad City ValBest of the Rest – Part 1

There were so many fantastic costuming moments across a variety of genres and viewing platforms that we had to split this picture heavy rundown into two posts. From dragon necklaces to the discussion of male nudity on cable with denim, leather jackets and red lipstick all getting a look in. Plus ultimate cabaret performing attire and a whole lot more.

Taraji P Henson WOut of the Box: Look of the Week – Part 1

So many sartorial moments of excellence in 2015 on magazine covers, editorials, the red carpet and at a wide arrange of events. Out of the Box gave a weekly compilation of the best of these and now we have our favorites of the year including this jaw droppingly good Taraji P. Henson cover. Look out for Part 2 on New Year’s Eve.

Mr robotBest of the Rest – Part 2

The second part of our costuming round-up includes a show I only started watching this week and ones I have been obsessed with for a long time. Hoodies, Hollywood glam, saying goodbye to some faves and many other clothing moments to salivate over and celebrate. This year really has been incredible for television.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by this year and I can’t wait to talk about TV in 2016!

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

23 Dec

Plenty of Insta gifts both holiday themed and general behind the scenes delights including many happy memories, magazine covers, newcomers and style inspiration.

https://www.instagram.com/p/_anflAPqMZ/?taken-by=skittishkid

Everything about this is perfect.

Everything about this is perfect (Part II).

Another Throwback Thursday treat with Justin Theroux looking far from Kevin Garvey and Amy Sedaris killing as per usual.

https://www.instagram.com/p/_ZfPNmpQ1j/?taken-by=mindykaling

I’ve fallen behind on The Mindy Project, but what I’ve heard about the most recent episodes has got me intrigued. And of course there is always the pattern clashing joy from Mindy’s costuming as an added bonus.

Things did not end well for Lady on Game of Thrones, but luckily life does not imitate life and Sophie Turner adopted Zunni when Lady’s part came to an end. Someone seems pretty happy to see Santa.

As “Out of the Box”  is going to be an end of year Best Of for the next two weeks I didn’t want to miss out on this Broad City fashion mag cover joy, so thank you Broad City Insta for posting their Flare shot.

More Stephanie Beatriz glasses to covet.

Another Instagram newcomer and Will Forte went with the JJ Abrams lens flare option showcasing both his epic beardiness and Mary Steenburgen.

Oh to be in New York so I could go see Oh, Hello.

Gil and George not only got a stellar New York Times review, but they also had a very handsome guest come to their show.

Now entering the Jane the Virgin portion this week and this cast continues to be one of the most active on Instagram. First up Brett Dier sharing a festive message/picture.

These two don’t spend a whole lot of time on screen together, but the writers should definitely make this happen as it will probably be magical.

And I am so here for this.

https://www.instagram.com/p/_ZmdU1kZHt/?taken-by=dianeguerrero_

From one prolific Instagram using cast to another and this friendship appears to be just as close off screen as well as on.

More frames inspiration. Plus #FriendshipGoals.

And because I guess it is the most on point hashtag for this SNL sketch #SquadGoals.

Kirsten Dunst posted this to Twitter and it not only perfectly showcases everything that I love about Peggy’s costuming, but it also looks like it could be from 1979. Got to love a filter.

Best of TV Costuming 2015: Bookending the 1970s with Mad Men and Fargo or a Tale of Two Peggys

21 Dec

Welcome to TV Ate My Wardrobe’s “Best of 2015” costuming series and rather than doing a straightforward countdown we’re going to do a variety of posts that look at which costumes and shows have made a huge impact this year. From items we want in our own wardrobe to pieces that got everyone talking; we want to celebrate the work of television’s best costume designers.

Lurid patterns in earthy tones, high waisted flares, corduroy, sheepskin collars, pussy bows and ribbed turtlenecks are all in my favorite clothing wheelhouse and the current 70s fashion (re)cycle continues to bring so much pleasure. If I could cosplay one film it would be Almost Famous and 2015 delivered on the 1970s clothing on TV front with two shows that bookend this decade. Mad Men entered the 1970s in its final season and the second season of Fargo is takes place in 1979. Even The Americans which is actually set in the early 80s has a whole lot the decade before it still leaving its trace particularly in the knitwear, underwear and wig department.

1970 is where Peggy Olson really comes into her own and her office wear has never been as cool as it is in this final season. Long gone are the frumpy days with Pete Campbell critiquing her choice of attire and her confidence emanates through the bold patterns and colors of her costuming.

Mad Men 7.09 Pima and PeggyTHE Peggy Olson moment of the final season is of course her power strut through the offices of McCann and this is an ultimate cool as fuck declaration. All the applause for Janie Bryant and her incredible costume design work on Mad Men and especially for giving us this incredible Peggy entrance outfit.

Mad Men 7.12 Queen PeggyEverything about this look is perfect and also perfectly Peggy. The other best thing about this is ensemble is that it can later be seen hanging on her office door in the season finale for when it is needed next.

Megan, Betty and Joan are the three characters whose style has been influenced by fashion magazines of the time and the looks most likely to be updated and copied now. That is until season 7 when Peggy upped her game or rather embraced a style which is manages to be both work appropriate and embraces the color/pattern explosion of the time without being too much.

Here is a selection of looks I would wear today:

Mad Men 7.11 Peggy dress Mad Men 7.14 Peggy (stan) Mad Men 7.14 Peggy (stripes) Mad Men 7.14 PeggyAnd if it didn’t result in another roller skating related broken wrist I might try this out for size.

Mad Men 7.12 PeggyThe other Peggy in question has high hopes and stacks upon stacks of fashion magazines in her basement, which comes in very handy for more than just sartorial tips later in the season. Peggy Blumquist wants way more from her comfortable small town life and dreams big; this should be filed under ‘careful what you wish’ for in the second season of Fargo.

Peggy’s signature red beret and fur collared coat caught our attention back when the first trailer appeared and these two items are worn throughout the season paired with her fantastic red leather gloves.

PeggyThere’s a little something Faye Dunaway as Bonnie in Bonnie and Clyde that always springs to mind whenever a beret is worn or I start humming Prince.

Whereas Megan Draper looks like she influences the pages of Vogue, Peggy Blumquist is very much the woman who carefully curates her outfits to match the ones she sees in magazines. This isn’t to say that Peggy will wear whatever is deemed cool and costume designer Carol Case ensures that she never goes full on fashion ridiculous with high end style ensembles. Instead she carefully puts together a look which fit in with her real life while pointing toward the great things she believes can happen.

She is also the kind of woman who wears her expectations on her sleeve including trips to Paris she sees in her future.

Fargo - PeggyAnd for all your high waisted needs, well Peggy has that covered too. Even when her outfits take a turn for the grey when the shit hits the fan.

Fargo - Peggy BFor Peggy at her most down to earth look no further than ribbed stripes at dinner.

Fargo - Peggy in stripesAnd for her most flamboyant.

Peggy B - sunglassesPeggy Blumquist is not only of the best dressed characters on TV during 2015, but she’s also one the standouts in terms of performance and her overall journey. Kirsten Dunst delivers on every level in making Peggy’s seemingly monstrous act at the start of the season so emotionally crushing in the why of it all. She is both incredibly naive and blinkered in how she views reality and that final scene in Lou’s car is devastating as she realizes exactly what has been lost in her attempt to achieve what she thinks she deserves.

Two Peggys, two very different stories and bookending a time of progression, turbulence, social discord and some rather out there style choices.

For more Best of 2015 posts stay tuned!

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

4 Dec

An eclectic “Out of the Box” this week including Star Wars: The Force Awakens pre-premiere press tour excitement, a variety of events and a series of stunning black and white posed shots.

Lupita Nyong'oA Zac Posen dress that sparkles as if it is a starry sky from a galaxy far away (I’ll see myself out) for Lupita Nyong’o first at Bloomingdale’s ‘Force 4 Fashion’ event on Wednesday followed by an appearance on The Daily Show. The dress is low key elegance that turns into a sparkly light up display and I am so ready for this press tour.

Gwendoline ChristieOne of the ‘Force 4 Fashion’ dresses is this stunning Giles Deacon creation; inspired by Captain Phasma and worn here by Phasma herself, Gwendoline Christie. For more incredible photos and a chat about the making of the gown head to Vanity Fair. I love this photo so much I’ve made it my new phone wallpaper; so much power and poise.

Elisabeth MossA cute and simple Peter Pan collared frock for Elisabeth Moss at the IWC Schaffhausen Rodeo Drive boutique opening; an ideal look that can be dressed up or down for day or night. It maybe also slightly resembles the dress worn by me in my Twitter avatar.

Emmy RossumFeeling festive in an all red Salvatore Ferragamo pleated turtleneck dress is Emmy Rossum (in her second appearance this week) at the Godiva ‘Hot Chocolate for a Cause’ benefit. If this wasn’t December this might be too matchy matchy, but it is perfect for a December event like this.

Amy PoehlerAmy Poehler received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week and did so in style wearing a charming winter floral dress. Amy was joined by a variety of co-stars/collaborators to celebrate including beautiful tropical fish Rashida Jones and she’s also showing off the pattern pretty.

Viola DavisInStyle gets their first cover of 2016 – yes it is already 2016 in magazine world – so right with this fantastic beauty shot of Viola Davis. Inside the issue Davis talks about her own style versus Annalise’s and a very refreshing beauty philosophy – “What’s released me most from the fear of aging is self-awareness. I’ve never determined my value based on my looks or anything physical. I’ve been through a lot in life, and what has gotten me through is strength of character and faith.”

Charlotte Rampling and Isabella RosselliniNow entering the black and white section of this week’s “Out of the Box” with Variety’s Actors on Actors‘ conversations following the same model as their Emmy series. The idea of Charlotte Rampling and Isabella Rossellini sitting down discussing anything is exciting enough and this portrait captures them in all their regal glory. Which is perfect considering they are both acting icons.

Elizabeth Banks and Carey MulliganAnother entry in the Variety ‘Actors on Actors’ series and a shot featuring two more TV Ate My Wardrobe favorites; Elizabeth Banks and Carey Mulligan both make really interesting choices in the their work and style. This is no exception.

Amy SchumerThe new 2016 Pirelli calendar photos have been unveiled including this stunning shot of Amy Schumer taken by Annie Leibovitz. Schumer posted the photo on her Twitter with the accompanying words “Beautiful, gross, strong, thin, fat, pretty, ugly, sexy, disgusting, flawless, woman” getting ahead of the comments. Click on the image for a clearer look.

Sadly the calendar is not available to buy and unless you are in the fashion industry it will be hard to get your hands on one. Guess I’ll be sticking with the Countryfile calendar my dad buys me every year instead.

SerenaHere is the April entry and Serena Williams giving off nothing but strong and beautiful vibes. Head to Elle for more entries including Patti Smith and Tavi Gevinson.

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

25 Nov

Talking TV friendships, real life unions, costuming and make-up behind the scenes snaps on this week’s Insta round-up. Plus previewing a couple of things for 2016.

The caption on this photo says it all really. Loving this lip color on Elisabeth Moss.

Halfway through Jessica Jones and the Jessica/Trish friendship is currently my favorite thing on a long list of things I really like about this show. There is a rich history and their relationship is so incredibly layered; it’s not always easy, but they can count on each other even when they disagree. Glad to see it looks just as fun on set.

Now for more Jessica Jones cast shenanigans. This time with hats.

https://www.instagram.com/p/-ehzlVG6Go/?taken-by=msjackiecruz

Speaking of excellent lady friendships on TV; here is another terrific one. Also loving the red beanie vibes.

https://www.instagram.com/p/-eqtTwIQD5/?taken-by=officialraulcastillo

Because there can never be enough pictures of the Looking dudes.

Things might not be in a great place for Jane and Raphael at the moment, but everything looks peachy between Gina and Justin.

Lucca Quinn continues to be our new favorite style queen and Cush Jumbo gives us a peak at a before and after make-up shot all in the same photo.

https://www.instagram.com/p/-VisG8JQ5Q/?taken-by=mindykaling

Mindy Kaling mixes patterns with aplomb with her wardrobe and decor choices; everything about this screams my perfect room (okay I would probably switch out the poster).

Veering into movie Insta because I can never have enough of Effie Trinket and these A-MAZING looks.

Fox gifted us with a Grease: Live teaser yesterday and I am so ready for Kether Donohue as Jan (and Aaron Tveit as Danny).

The first season 6 Game of Thrones teaser was released this week with a bloody Jon Snow (though not in the place he was stabbed) and the official Insta is giving the Funko figure the same poster treatment complete with sad expression.

Getting Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind vibes from this Elementary set dressing and woah do they really get the best views.

The Scandal love interest web continues to spin ever on and while I was very much Team David and Abby, I could definitely get on board this new pairing. The regifting in the last episode was not a classy move though and David loses points for that one.

Celebrity weddings and the coverage of these events can range from no photos at all (see Jen and Justin) to a magazine deal (see Brad and Angelina). And then there is Sofia Vergara who decided to cut out the middle man and use social media to share plenty of photos of her special day with Joe Manganiello. This custom Zuhair Murad gown is stunning.

And there are plenty of Modern Family faces on hand to help celebrate the big day. For many more dancing and party pictures of the big event head here. Meanwhile I will be contemplating the politics of celebrity access particularly at an event like this.

Best of the 2015 Glamour Women of the Year Awards

10 Nov

There is not a whole lot of 2015 left and time has a way of flying by as we near those end of year lists (I need to start working on mine) and last night the Glamour Women of the Year Awards were held at Carnegie Hall in New York City. This is always one of my favorites because it celebrates a range of women and achievements and I just feel so darn positive afterwards. For more on this year’s recipients head here.

Viola DavisViola Davis’ daughter dressed up as her mother winning an Emmy for Halloween and it was pretty much the most adorable costume ever. Davis is onto another winner in red and black with some really excellent accessorizing.

Lupita Nyong'oWe’re almost at Star Wars press tour time, which means we are in for a treat with way more Lupita Nyong’o red carpet looks are ahead of us. Going for understated elegance in Jason Wu and working it like a charm while on hand to present Misty Copeland with her award.

Dascha PolancoDascha Polanco is serving up caped excellence and giving amazing face. I think this is her best red carpet look to date.

Danielle BrooksAnother fabulous turn from an Orange is the New Black star with Danielle Brooks in a color blocking delight. Oh hey there pockets! Just to make this even better. Brooks is in Aziz Ansari’s new show Master of None and next season needs more of Dev’s ambitious agent Shannon, who is all about getting that Friends money.

Alex MorganThe whole US Women’s soccer team was honored at the event; deservedly so after their World Cup win and Alex Morgan’s red and purple floral gown is beautiful. More pocket plus points getting dished out.

SerenaSports stars slaying all over the place with Serena Williams demonstrating how to do sheer in a way that doesn’t make me want to weep from boredom.

Victoria and Brooklyn BeckhamThe big trends of the night were red and black; these tend to be in favor this time of year and Victoria Beckham embraced crimson in a dress from her own collection. Well if you are getting honored for your work in fashion then it makes sense to showcase your work. Brooklyn Beckham continues to follow in his father’s footsteps by looking rather dapper all suited up.

Amy, Eve and SelenaMore red and one thing I like about this photo other than the perfect red dress symmetry is how random this grouping is; I am so here for groups of people you don’t expect posing together. Amy Schumer’s red Alexander McQueen is a switch up from the LBDs she’s been sporting recently and I love a flared sleeve. Selena Gomez is mixing sweet with sexy in Valentino and Eve Hewson embraces the 90s with a lipstick Winona would be proud of.

Misty CopelandTurtlenecks are in favor again and Misty Copeland shows how they can be worn in a formal setting like this; playing with this classic look as she picks up her Woman of the Year Award.

Elisabeth MossMore 90s lipstick realness from Elisabeth Moss and she’s hitting the vampy line hard in this velvet and sheer frock. There is a danger of looking too washed out when your hair is this blonde and I’m not feeling the shoes, but 90s nostalgia wins out for me here because I am a sucker for this.

Reese WitherspoonOkay so I’m not crazy about Reese Witherspoon’s Erdem dress – the floral pattern/texture is great, it’s the lace neckline that makes it too fussy – but I love everything about her speech. Reese talks about her acting career and how ambition shouldn’t be a dirty word. She also discusses her production company and the exciting slate they have ahead:

“We have over 25 films in development and three television shows, and they all have female leads of different ages and different races and different jobs. Some are astronauts, some are soldiers, some are scientists, one is even a Supreme Court justice. They’re not just good or bad; they’re bold and hunted and dangerous and triumphant like the real women we meet every single day of our lives.”

The full speech is really inspiring and while I am in danger of sounding corny I do always feel extra motivated after reading about events like this.

Judith Light, Caitlyn Jenner and Cindi LeiveOne final and super fun photo with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive hanging out with Woman of the Year, Caitlyn Jenner and the always amazing Judith Light. Light presented Jenner with her award and this is another great dress color symmetry shot. I also love that Jenner has taken her shoes off by this point because I am incapable of keeping a pair of heels on all night.

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

22 Sep

Taking a break from Emmy coverage (including the special Emmys Inst-Scenes post) with a return to our normal schedule of TV Instagram photos.

https://instagram.com/p/76OobYpQ1P/?taken-by=mindykaling

Another very cute Mindy Project outfit and eating on the go from Mindy Kaling. I would definitely have a spilling situation occurring in this scenario.

THIS PHOTO. I would watch this drama unfold in a heartbeat.

https://instagram.com/p/75DvSxuID6/?taken-by=glassofwhiskey

Definitely high on my most anticipated TV show list – it has undergone a name change from The Way to The Path – and slightly softening the end of Hannibal blow.

There’s a reason Joshua Jackson has remained a favorite since 1998. Also, yay Diane!

Aaaaaand I’ve definitely done this.

I really need Playing House to be renewed already. This dress, that episode and everything about this show and these ladies is fantastic.

A reminder that Jane the Virgin is back in a few weeks and it has been far too long.

https://instagram.com/p/7zONXEgVA1/?taken-by=grantgust

Grant Gustin has got the Flash apparel situation locked down and it does indeed look rather cold.

There’s a Mad Men tree and I definitely want to find it. Elisabeth Moss has goggles chic down.

So this is tangentially Emmy related as photographer Lisa Guerriero shared this photo of Jon Hamm goofing around onset to celebrate his win. It is both terrifying and amazing.

Best of the Emmy Red Carpet – Bold Color and Print

Pink was not the only color on the Emmy red carpet and this is one of the brightest and boldest displays in recent years with a lot less monochromatic offerings. We’ve given you sparkle, now here are some patterned treats.

Ellie KemperEllie Kemper didn’t get nominated for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but she more than makes up for this in a stunning multi-color Naeem Khan dress; definitely a top 5 pick.

Zoe KazanBetween Ellie Kemper and Zoe Kazan I am getting rather mesmerized by their frocks; Kazan’s red and white Miu Miu is perfect for her twee styling, which I adore. Red lipstick points ahoy!

Laverne CoxA flawless look for Laverne Cox in a teal Calvin Klein Collection dress.

Mindy KalingCanary gowns will forever have to stand up to the Best Oscar Gown and Mindy Kaling’s custom Salavador Perez is definitely striking and the highlight of the 2015 Emmy yellow frock push.

Lauren LapkusThe pattern, cut and color is gorgeous on Lauren Lapkus and I would love it if she returned to Orange is the New Black.

Kristen SchaalKristen Schaal and Lauren Lapkus could definitely play sisters and someone should get on that. Meanwhile Kristen Schaal is resplendent in shimmering Rubin Singer.

Judith LightJudith Light slaying in floral Zac Posen.

Maggie GyllenhaalGoing for big colorful ball gown Oscar de la Renta and Maggie Gyllenhaal doesn’t over accessorize this already dramatic look.

Kiernan ShipkaWe’ve entered the “I don’t know why Dior keep doing this” portion and I’m including this to show that Kiernan Shipka is very much a Magical Fashion Unicorn, but she deserves so much better than this.

January JonesThe same can be said for January Jones and she is certainly working the Ulyana Sergeenko Couture jumpsuit, but the draping is causing me to pull all kinds of confused faces. The color and brooch are stunning and yet I really wish this was a dress or a slightly more tailored jumpsuit.

January and ElisabethIn fact from behind it looks better and this shot with former co-star Elisabeth Moss is giving me all the feelings.

Danielle BrooksA twirling dream from Danielle Brooks in pleated custom Christian Siriano. Whenever I wear a pleated skirt or dress I spend half my day twirling. I don’t get much done.

Emily RobinsonThe cut of Emily Robinson’s Kayat gown reminds me of Caitlin Fitzgerald at the Golden Globes and it is working just as well for Robinson in this delicate print.

Chelsea Peretti and Jordan PeeleBest couple alert! A fun floral contrast from Chelsea Peretti in Gabriela Cadena and Jordan Peele doing the standard tuxedo thing.

Teyonah ParrisTeyonah Parris twirls in Francesca Miranda polka dots in this stunning mid-action shot.

Viola Davis EmmyClosing our Emmy gown rundown with THE moment of the night and Viola Davis winning Best Actress in a Drama. The Carmen Marc Valvo dress is amazing, her speech is better and you can watch it below.
