Much like Abbi from Broad City whether she is high after dental surgery or looking for the perfect suitcase recommendation I love Drew Barrymore and finding out she was joining the ever growing Netflix series list of actors was a thrill.
Then came the name – Santa Clarita Diet – and it sounded like some kind of Eat, Pray, Love setup. I have never been happier in my first assumptions being wrong and really I should’ve known better as it is from the Better off Ted creator. I have only seen a handful of episodes of Better off Ted several years ago on a plane to New Zealand and always intended on watching the rest of. But I digress.
First the zombie angle was revealed and during the Golden Globes this teaser was released:
And now we have the full trailer and boy does it look full on delightful. Timothy Olyphant is great in these slightly off kilter parts and I’m so glad to see him doing comedy again (plus his hair looks amazing). Also it is makes me want to rewatch Go. The comedy zombie bracket is a crowded one that includes some brilliant takes such as iZombie, Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland and the fun Life After Beth and Warm Bodies, but there is still room for more when it looks this fun.
A very quiet week on Instagram on the TV work front because of Memorial Day weekend. This also means there have been plenty of celebs at the beach/hanging in the sunshine photos splashed across Insta of which we have a couple, but the majority of this week is dedicated to co-star hangouts and cute outfits.
Norman Reedus went to see Eclipsed and this ticks all my supporting a co-star in their other endeavors boxes. Plus a whole lot of patterned outfit delights.
More from the OITNB ladies and they’re celebrating Laverne Cox’s birthday, which also ticks those co-stars who hang out boxes. Plus it is just over two weeks until OITNB returns (Friday, June 17).
So this is not from this week, but as I just caught up with iZombie I have some new Insta accounts to peruse and this is just too wonderful not to include. Robert Buckley in glasses is a really good look.
Maisie Williams is giving me so many flashbacks to my first festival going summer way back when as the 90s continues to dominate. Whenever I see anyone with star earrings like this it makes me regret my non-pierced lobes.
“My Name is Jonas” has been stuck in my head all week and there is a very obvious reason for this as social media has been awash with a blizzard by a certain name. So yes, plenty of snow pics from this edition of Behind the Insta-Scenes. Plus Sundance, red lipstick (insert emoji here), guests stars, that touted Friends reunion and more.
Snow plus dogs equals all the adorable especially when the dog is also dressed for the occasion. Cush Jumbo’s fur hood/gloves/big scarf continues the theme of all things winter wear this week on TV Ate My Wardrobe.
Diane Kruger attempts a potentially perilous jump in the air snow pic and if I attempted this the likelihood of sticking the landing would be slim. Excellent coats and mittens choice (wouldn’t expect anything less). What we really want to know is who took the photo?
Popcorn selfies that also need the lipstick emoji because Jenny Slate and Zoe Kazan have picked their color well. Can it survive the movie snacks? The true test of a good product.
Welcome to another edition of “Behind the Insta-Scenes” and this week we have show crossovers, some sunshine, Parks and Recreation flashbacks, production art and a hilarious Broad City video.
Ben Schwartz continues his Tuesday trip down Parks and Rec memory lane and this week he revisits the days of Entertainment 720. Woah those panda sneakers and major desk chair envy.
Ilana is awesome on Broad City, but she is also a terrible person to share a desk with and her colleague Nicole is keeping track of everything. Press play to find out what Ilana has done this time.
A sport filled weekend with the Australian Open tennis finals and the Super Bowl so while there isn’t any new TV to talk about there are a few highlights of the style and just general ‘what?! amazing!’ I want to mention. Somewhere along the way this took on a bit of a Broad City theme which is on point seeing as I wore my super soft (it really s the softest) Broad City tee this weekend.
First up the moment during the Super Bowl Katy Perry halftime show that looked like we were all taking a collective post-dental surgery trip a la Abbi on last week’s incredible episode of Broad City “Wisdom Teeth” when the dancing sharks appeared.
Bingo Bronson has got a couple of new pals to hangout in Whole Foods with and cause mischief.
Just leaving this here for all the joy reasons.
Despite the news leaking prior to the Super Bowl that Missy Elliott would be joining Katy Perry at some point during the halftime show; her entrance and those opening beats of “Get Ur Freak On” is still an all the prayer hands emoji moment, surprise or not. The less said about Katy Perry’s awkward dancing during this section the better. However, crazy impressed with Perry’s jumping in stacked heels that was immediately not followed by falling over and breaking her ankle during the Lenny Kravitz section of the performance.
The Tonight Show aired a live Super Bowl special last night including another in the series of lip sync battles with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart joining Jimmy Fallon. Normally it is the special guests that take the crown but Jimmy Fallon has a surprise up his sleeve that would make Abbi from Broad City very happy indeed.
And finally…
Unnecessary outrage is an internet staple and one of this week’s biggest non-controversy controversies involved Kim Sears and her apparent potty mouth; saying the word fuck and getting caught on camera is uncouth or something like that. Bit of backstory Kim Sears is an artist who is best known for being tennis player Andy Murray’s fiance and column inches about her have in the past been obsessed with when Murray would finally pop the question (now the they have turned their attention to the wedding and babies of course), her amazing hair (it is amazing) and her courtside style (also amazing). So when Kim let out the odd swear people were SHOCKED. Which, urgh. Kim’s choice of Alexander Wang sweatshirt for yesterday’s final (which Murray sadly lost) was the real winner yesterday and Sears gets all the DGAF points. And yes her hair does look fantastic.
Having been a teenager in the ’90s I have many terrible makeup related stories that mostly feature ill advised blue mascara/sparkly eye shadow combinations and because I messed up my eyes so much I always feared doing the same with my lip color. This meant that I avoided lipstick and instead briefly embraced the concealer as lipstick trend (also terrible). Luckily I have a chance to rectify the mistakes of my youth as everything that was hot in the ’90s is back for another go and hopefully this time around I will get it right. I might leave the daisies behind even if Drew makes them look so enticing.
MAC recently announced they were bringing back some lipsticks and eye shadows from the decade that had us reaching for plaid flannel shirts, crop tops, mini kilts, pop socks, slip dresses and chokers. Brands with discontinued colors aren’t the only ones getting in on this wave of ’90s nostalgia and Nars, a company that produced its first campaign with 12 lipsticks in 1994 has a color that perfectly represents this period and it’s called “413 BLKR.”
The name comes from the location of Nars’ first flagship store in New York City’s West Village. The deep rose brown pretty much embodies the red carpet makeup look of stars like Drew Barrymore and Winona Ryder. Pairing with super smoky eyes defies the bold lips and eyes rule but things were a messier in 1994. Now you can take a cue from the Michelle Williams Louis Vuitton campaign that pairs a strong brow with the dark lips. It’s dramatic without looking like you’re going to a ’90s themed party.
This is perfect timing for the Reality Bites TV show because apparently people have run out of ideas and nothing can be left alone. If we’re going to pick over the carcass of all music, movies and TV shows from the 90s I’d quite like to see The Craft on the small screen (yes I know The Secret Circle only last one season).
This is mostly so I can see the return of Fairuza Balk, who I find terrifying and mesmerizing in equal measures.
