Best of the Pre-Golden Globes Parties: The BAFTA Tea Party

7 Jan

Happy Golden Globes Day! This is set to be a very different kind of awards as it is the first big film/TV awards ceremony to take place since the Harvey Weinstein allegations first came to light at the start of October. What has followed has been a reckoning in this industry, but this isn’t just a Hollywood problem.

Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks, aka The Fug Girls, spoke to Constance Grady from Vox to discuss what we can expect to see tonight, why you can care about fashion and still be a feminist (I hate that we even have to justify this, but of course we do) and the movement—with #MeToo and #TimesUp—that is taking place.

I will be covering the Golden Globes red carpet tomorrow, but will be mindful of the bigger conversation that is taking place. Racked tried to get comments from any/all stylists about what they planned on doing with their clients outfits and they didn’t get a single reply. Playing it close to their chests in case anything changes late in the day.

Before tonight’s ceremony, there are the pre-parties. The BAFTA L.A. Tea Party is an annual fave and here are the best looks from this day event. There’s been a lot of bold color on the red carpet this week, I wonder if in part this is to show a big contrast to the black frock statement.

Emilia Clarke switches up the blazer I am still coveting for the perfect Michael Kors tea party floral frock. This is a lot of ruffles—which seems to be a big trend at the moment—but the color of this Rosie Assoulin dress looks great on Issa RaeMichelle Williams in a very Michelle Williams Louis Vuitton (of course) choice. You know I love it. Looking forward to Busy’s Insta Stories from tonight. More ruffles! I really wish this dress was lined, but I’m gonna give Rachel Brosnahan all the drama points in floral Christopher Kane. More ruffles and florals with Elizabeth Chambers ticking off these two trends in Giambattista Valli. Ilaria Urbinati does it again, giving Armie Hammer something fun to wear. This time more plaidEmily V. Gordon continues to deliver on the patterned frocks. This one is perfect for this setting. Kumail, you look good too.

Also, count me in with this idea.A bold suit and paisley shirt combo for Daniel Kaluuya in pattern clashing Etro.I am still mad about what happened in The X-Files premiere. I am not mad about what is going on here with Gillian Anderson wearing a geometric print Victoria Beckham.Andrea Riseborough shows the #TimesUp message is one that can be worn all weekend.Well, holy shit. This is how you do a ladysuit. Bowing down always, to Isabelle Huppert. Also Gucci continues to do the most in the suit department.
