Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

14 Jun

A day earlier than the usual Behind the Insta-Scenes posting time and that’s because it has been jam packed with the ATX Television Festival in Austin delivering on the TV reunion front. Plus the Tony Awards and other great TV related hangouts.

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts… @atxfestival

The ATX Television Festival provided a whole lot of feelings all over Instagram (I would be a mess if I was there IRL) and the Friday Night Lights reunion was the number one source.

Also from Austin we’ve got Mae Whitman bringing together two parts of the Jason Katims TV map. I really like her glasses.

In more excellent TV reunion photos with the ladies from Ugly Betty and one boozy hangout dream scenario; Vanessa Williams AND Judith Light.

Posing up a storm and the UnREAL cast continues to crush all things on Instagram (also this week’s episode is SO great).

Danai Gurira was one of our Tony Awards red carpet faves and not only is she delivering on the excellent Insta multi group shots, but she’s also given us a getting ready photo diary over at Vogue.

In non-shocking news to regular readers, but I adore this selfie. And everything about this friendship. Michelle Williams’ lipstick looks even better in close up.

One last one from last night.

This is also really wonderful and showcases the hell out of Busy Philipps’ amazing frock.

More in the Tony selfie stream and Lucy Liu was one of the yellow frock delights from the night.

Lupita gifts us with a Tonys dress and accessories still life; such exquisite and detailed work.

Glenn Close looks amazing and in a ‘stars they’re just like us’ moment she’s seen her clutching heels rather than wearing them after a big event (I normally last 2 hours, maybe 3 if/when the booze kicks in).

Busy Philipps has the Jane Eyre Olympia Le-Tan book cover clutch and this Bell Jar one (as mentioned in this Tonys post) is my ultimate clutch wish list item.

Dazed and bloody… Ep10

A well earned coffee break on the set of Outlander.

You’re the Worst is now shooting season 3 and I cannot wait for more. Love the slippers, Kether.

BrainDead started last night and I liked the pilot a bunch; the leads are great and former Good Wife costume designer Daniel Lawson is giving me a whole new blazer wardrobe to covet.

Behind the scenes of this fantastic New York Magazine Tracee Ellis Ross photo shoot gives the bonus of seeing Ross dancing to Beyoncé.

Best of the 2016 Tony Awards Red Carpet Part 1

13 Jun

The 2016 Tony Awards celebrated all things Broadway last night in New York City* and this red carpet event has become one of my favorites. Mixing bold color with pattern was a big trend and Part 1 of this round-up is awash with dresses (and suits) of this kind.

*While also touching upon the horrific violence and mass murder at a gay club in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday morning. Writing about fashion after such an event always feels somewhat glib, but the Tonys and musical theater has such strong ties to the LGBT community and this celebration shows the kind of inclusivity that theater offers.

For a complete list of all Tony Award winners click here.Michelle Williams and Busy PhilippsBusy Philipps as Michelle Williams’ awards show date is one of my favorite traditions – ticks all those IRL bestie boxes- and both look stunning. Michelle Williams is wearing Louis Vuitton (of course) and her whole makeup/hair styling is very much like this 2013 campaign. As my own personal hair inspiration I am thrilled to see Williams going shorter again.

There’s a whole lot of different florals going as you will see when you scroll and I love Philipps’ take in a strapless pink Ingie Paris gown. Busy Philipps also has an Olympia Le-Tan book clutch, which is on my ultimate list. Busy has Jane Eyre (can also see it here); I would love The Bell Jar.Lupita Nyong'oAnother awards show red carpet triumph for Lupita Nyongo’o in a colorful Hugo Boss gown. Designer Jason Wu explained to Vogue that the look of the dress was inspired by Tetris; the sequins and 3-D textural effect is incredible.Lin-Manuel Miranda and Vanessa NadalAn emotional night was made even more so when Lin-Manuel Miranda delivered a sonnet that he had written yesterday in reaction to the senseless violence in Orlando.

Part of the sonnet was also dedicated to his wife Vanessa Nadal and her bespoke Edie Parker Hamilton clutch is as delightful as her beautiful paint splattered looking frock, which I love.Renee Elise GoldsberryKeeping on the Hamilton track and Tony winner Renée Elise Goldsberry pairs two of the night’s big trends – yellow and botanicals – with great success in Oscar de la Renta. Plus pockets. Lucy LiuMore pale yellow delights and I wonder Alicia Vikander’s Louis Vuitton Oscar dress has led to a bump in this shade (a dress I liked, but didn’t love). I prefer both Goldsberry’s and Lucy Liu’s Zuhair Murad take on this yellow tone and the floral detail here also adds to the dreamy texture.Cynthia ErivoCynthia Erivo won for The Color Purple and crushed it on the red carpet in a show stopping Roberto Cavalli gown. There is a lot of dress to work with and Erivo doesn’t let it overwhelm her. Also a good reminder that this Tony actress roundtable is every 100 emoji worth of your time.Daveed DiggsDaveed Diggs was another well deserving Hamilton winner and he took the guys suit game up a notch in Commes des Garcons. This patchwork/mixed texture choice is pattern clashing at its height and I think he looks great in a very hard to pull off lookJoan SmallsIn the best dress worn by a supermodel category Joan Smalls takes the prize in sparkly Altuzarra.Laura BenantiMore bold florals from Oscar de la Renta from nominee Laura Benanti and the rose bush backdrop is working wonders with all of these colorful frocks.Sophie OkonedoRounding off Part 1 with another botanical stunner with Sophie Okonedo in Zac Posen combining long sleeves with strapless and a really interesting silhouette.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

6 May

The busiest red carpet week since award season was over with the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on Saturday and the Met Gala extravaganza on Monday. There are still plenty of other events delivering on the sartorial front with the Tony Awards ‘Meet the Nominees’ press junket, a Netflix Jessica Jones screening and other outings. Plus a fun game of ‘What scenario does Sam Heughan’s Interview editorial make you think of?’Michelle WilliamsMichelle Williams looks cute and chic in a Louis Vuitton (of course) black number at the Tony nominee press shindig; in not shocking news I am obsessing over her embellished collar. Michelle wasn’t included in my Met roundup (I liked the look, but not for the Gala) which was a super hard choice because I really loved the super chunky boots all the LV ladies wore; I would maybe switch out her black pumps here for those boots. Lupita Nyong'oWhile I’m on the subject of shoes; Lupita Nyong’o in flats makes me so happy (because I do adore a flat) and she looks incredibly fresh in a peach lace crop top and skirt. Plus on Instagram, Lupita gives a close up shot of the Tony nominee pin that is the accessory of this celebration.Danielle BrooksA pure moment of joy from Danielle Brooks and I am excited that Taystee will be back in my life next month (June 17). Plus stripes and leather pleats are very much in my fashion wheelhouse so excellent daytime event outfit choice. Krysten RitterKrysten Ritter goes all in on the crimson theme in Altuzarra and bold lip color. Gold spiky Louboutins and a Jimmy Choo clutch finish off a fabulous look courtesy of TV Ate My Wardrobe stylist fave Ilaria Urbinati. Racheal TaylorAlso at the Jessica Jones FYC screening is the other half of one of the best lady friendships on TV right now and Rachael Taylor’s Dion Lee dress looks perfect for swishing in. And for the whole cast hanging out check out this week’s “Behind the Insta-Scenes.”Rachel McAdamsApparently all I need to like sheer is equal amounts of wine color velvet to break it up and a fantastic velvet collar to boot. Rachel McAdams looks great at the Sonic Sea screening and this is such a good hair length on her.

Trench coats and particularly Burberry trenches are my weakness and Claire Danes in a patterned number from Burberry is ticking SO many boxes.

Sam HeughanInterview is on a roll with the TV dudes at the moment and this Sam Heughan photo shoot led to a very fun conversation on Twitter regarding what kind of character you get from the Henley/neckerchief wearing attire above. The interview is also fun and Heughan gives off so many delightful vibes.

Best of the 2015 Tony Awards Red Carpet

8 Jun

The Tony Awards red carpet was awash with color and print with some stunning frocks on display from nominees, presenters and attendees. Here are our favorites of the night.

Elisabeth MossElisabeth Moss is radiant in floral Oscar de la Renta wisely ditching the white belt from the original and adding extra color with her lipstick choice.

Vanessa HudgensThis is very much a summer awards show and Vanessa Hudgens is very on point in Naeem Khan with the gorgeous flower print and halter silhouette. Hudgens has been a pleasantly surprising sartorial force this year.

Patricia ClarksonRed roses for Patricia Clarkson in Alexander McQueen continuing the print theme and Clarkson is always a delight.

Emily SkeggsA dramatic and beautiful gown for Emily Skeggs with a hint of Carey Mulligan about her. And while Skeggs didn’t win in her category, it was a good night for Fun Home winning 5 awards.

Jennifer LopezJennifer Lopez delivers full elegant starry eyed drama in Valentino Couture.

Ruth WilsonMoving into the block color portion of the red carpet and I keep going back on forth on Ruth Wilson’s fuchsia Ralph Lauren frock. It’s the drop waist which is confusing matters and I’m still not over how much she made me like culottes last week. Very into the clashing lip color with the bold pink.

Annaleigh AshfordI adore Annaleigh Ashford as Betty in Masters of Sex and she won Best Featured Actress in a Play for You Can’t Take it With You (beating out my other fave Patricia Clarkson). Ashford stands out in a green Zac Posen frock with a dramatic bustier top and all important pockets.

Anna ChlumskySimple and chic from Anna Chlumsky in Sophie Theallet.

Bobby Cannavale and Rose ByrneHaving quite the Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale week after seeing Danny Collins and Spy. Byrne is a regular on TV Ate My Wardrobe and she tends to take a lot of red carpet risks including this amazing plunging crimson Delpozo dress with Cannavale looking dashing in Brooks Brothers.

Patina MillerPrevious Tony winner Patina Miller looks divine in Jason Wu showing how to red carpet flats and killing it with her accessory choices.

Judith LightYas Kween!
