Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

25 Aug

So many fall shows are on the horizon and there are plenty of countdowns to premiere dates on Instagram from a variety of sets and editing bays including Jane the VirginEmpireThe Mindy Project and Black-ish.

Gina in the middle with the ongoing battle between check shirts and v neck sweaters on Jane the Virgin.

Working mirrored sunglasses in a way I could only dream of is Taraji P. Henson.

And what it might look like if Empire was on cable.

When branded freebies from your own show come in very useful. Yes I would very much like my own trash juice receptacle.

Black-ish is on my never ending catch up list and this clip alone is enough to bump it up the list into a prime spot.

A much needed dose of Broad City and the best kind of resting face.

In this week’s Orange is the New Black installment something is going down in the kitchen.

Mindy Kaling’s Saturday night premiere editing shows off more Bedhead pajama treats on a variety of screens.

Playing House is pure lady friendship happiness and Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham blew the first whistle at the Los Angeles Derby Dolls bout last weekend. Here they are clutching their whistles and Parham’s Johnny Depp tee (from Clashist) is a good reminder of his pre-Pirates persona.

Eye makeup goals from Tina Turnbow with The Affair’s Julia Goldani Telles showing off ultimate wings.

Best birthday present food truck. Don’t spill any sauce down your costume (because that is definitely something I would do).

Emmy Nomination Acting Wish List

16 Jul

Happy Emmy nomination day! In a few hours time the title of this can probably be changed to Emmy Nomination Snub Rage List and before they are announced I wanted to make a note of the performances I would love to see recognized this year. Some of these are pretty much locks and will make the cut later, while others have an outside chance and there are of course the complete pipe dream entries.

There are sure to be some that I have missed and so this list doesn’t end up turning into thesis length I’m going to narrow it down to choosing from five shows. The slight loophole (because this list is mine) is I can pick more than one person from the same show.

First up drama!

The Americans 3.10Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell (The Americans)

Many words have been dedicated to The Americans here at TV Ate My Wardrobe and a good third of those are related to the outstanding performances Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell give on a weekly basis. The real tension of this show goes far beyond wigs and spy missions; it Philip and Elizabeth’s complicated relationship that takes The Americans to the next level. Realistically I’m not sure either of them will crack into their respective categories and just in case they don’t I’ve got the perfect gif reaction lined up.

Cookie EmpireTaraji P. Henson (Empire)

There is a lot to love about Empire and at number one on pretty much everyone’s list is probably the same name – Cookie. Taraji P. Henson takes a larger than life character and imbues her with vulnerability and power (she shared her surprising inspiration for Cookie here). And when it comes to style there is no other character that wears patterns or hats quite this well. I will definitely be throwing my shoe at someone if she doesn’t get a nomination.

Carrie CoonCarrie Coon (The Leftovers)

Nobody quite made me feel their character’s pain in the same way as Carrie Coon in The Leftovers from her scream of anguish (which I just rewatched and now my keyboard is soaked in tears) in the standout episode of the season “Guest” to her silent wail in the season finale. It isn’t just her despair that made this such a great performance, but also because she injected some much needed romantic fun into a show that at times leaned so far into the darkness. I for one was thrilled to have a couple to ship.

Mad Men 7.14 Pete and PeggyElisabeth Moss and Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men)

I really want the whole cast of Mad Men to get recognized for their acting talents in the final season, but somehow Vincent Kartheiser has never been nominated for an Emmy. This is unlikely to change even if his reading of “The King ordered it” is pure Pete Campbell perfection. Elisabeth Moss made me cry (sofa confessions) and cheer so loud (roller skating, supreme office strut) which makes her my ultimate Mad Men nominee.

Orphan BlackTatiana Maslany (Orphan Black)

Even when the plot is a little bit all over the place you can guarantee that Tatiana Maslany will ground whatever craziness with whichever seestra she is playing. After three seasons it might be easy to take it from granted how she makes you forget that she is playing everyone, but I still find myself in awe every week. What makes her performance even more impressive is that when they introduced yet another clone (this time Krystal) there was an instant connection (Jordan Gavaris deserves a big shout-out here) and empathy toward her plight.

Now comedy!

The Comeback 2.08Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback)

Nothing would make me happier than seeing Lisa Kudrow repeating Valerie Cherish’s Emmy success and the return of The Comeback after 10 years could have soured the memory of the beloved ‘cancelled too soon’ show. Instead what it did was once again give a searing look at Hollywood including how it treats aging stars. The blowjob episode was devastating and hard to watch, which also makes it one of the most important moments on TV from the past year.

Broad City 2.08Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer (Broad City)

Season 2 of Broad City took everything that was great about its first year and made it even better from Val, to new BFF and Whole Foods shopping partner Bingo Bronson, Kelly Ripa and Ilana’s mother. Abbi and Ilana detailed another crazy birthday night out and gave the perfect response to being told to smile. All that is left to say is Yas Kween(s)!

Jane the VirginGina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin)

A performance that can make me laugh and cry in equal measures with Gina Rodriguez delivering (no pun intended) in both areas. The world of Jane the Virgin can be kind of out there and the show moves at a pace to rival Orphan Black, but as with Tatiana Maslany this show has a lead that can ground the crazy and make you feel every bit of pain and joy that she does.

You're the WorstKether Donohue and Aya Cash (You’re the Worst)

Another show I would give all the awards to with BFFs Gretchen and Lindsay each clinging to some expectation of the life they should be living while embracing the one they think they shouldn’t. For Lindsay this is playing wife to a husband she doesn’t love while partying with Gretchen on the side and Gretchen attempts to ignore the very real feelings she has for Jimmy. Both Kether Donohue and Aya Cash are brilliant and I still have Lindsay’s haunting drunk rendition of “This Woman’s Work” playing on repeat in my head.

Inside Amy SchumerAmy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer)

The “Last Fuckable Day” sketch from the season opener is hilarious and sadly too fucking accurate; this is one example of how good Inside Amy Schumer has been this season a long with boy band parodies which ring true to the episode long take on 12 Angry MenNow there are magazine covers galore and her movie Trainwreck is out in the US this weekend and this really is the year of Amy Schumer.

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

8 Jul

Plenty of away from set photos this week with Independence Day celebrations including a whole lot of swimwear, inflatable animal floats and sunshine. Reunions aplenty and Magic Mike XXL outings are also on the cards so dive in to our Instagram highlights.

Rivaling Taylor Swift for most fun on a swan (or rather a flamingo) float and we’re sounding the adorable couple klaxon for Diane Kruger and a beardy Joshua Jackson.

https://instagram.com/p/40QeCmitKv/?taken-by=januaryjones

January Jones was also at Diane Kruger’s to celebrate the holiday weekend and Kruger shows off her excellent hosting talents with plenty of July 4th themed treats, an excellent way to use a watermelon and listening skills so good they make the hashtag.

Wearing very patriotic looking swimwear and the Jones/Kruger Instagram crossover is quite possibly my new favorite. And for breakup texts look no further than January Jones’ post holiday upload.

Parks and Rec reunion happiness. These super sunny photos mean plenty of excellent sunglasses.

https://instagram.com/p/4xz3vTJwBe/?taken-by=serayah

Unicorn float (well it looks like a unicorn sans the vital horn) for Serayah and Taylor Swift with more excellent swimwear to behold.

https://instagram.com/p/4sVQmwJwH1/?taken-by=serayah

The Taylor 4th party is a well documented extravaganza and this shot looks like it could be straight out of a Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren lookbook. Also prompting me to ask the forever question – is there someone who is employed by Swift as the official Insta photographer?

Balcony barbecue for Jessica Williams in a super laid back outfit which I am coveting.

Now this is one reunion I would like to see translated into a Pushing Daisies return to TV in whatever capacity (pretty much alternating between this and Wonderfalls for bedtime watching at the moment). Nice beards boys.

I love everything about Gabe Liedman’s Urkel tee story and it should definitely be hung on a wall.

Does this mean we can expect to see Matt McGorry on the You’re the Worst Sunday Funday sequel or are they just having a Sunday Funday of their own? Another excellent dress from Kether Donohue.

https://instagram.com/p/42elSdtfvu/?taken-by=broadcity

Broad City has found a new home on UK TV and will be airing on 4 Music. Abi and Ilana are excited about this and so am I.

Perfect Magic Mike XXL viewing girl squad vibes.

Ending things this week on sleepy prettiness from Jussie Smollett on the set of Empire.

3 Jun

TV Instagram is mostly off the set this week with a whole bunch of award shows including cartwheels, mutual appreciations and a whole range of emotions. Plus some of our other faves.

This photo is my happy place.

This video is my happy place.

Katie Aselton shows how to be blonde and brunette at the same time.

The couple that wears matching onesies together is the couple that stays together.

Birgitte Hjort Sørensen showing off her big baby blues on the set of the new currently untitled Martin Scorsese Rock ‘n’ Roll HBO project. While I might still yell KATRINE when she appears on screen it is good to see Sørensen’s profile blowing up with Pitch Perfect 2 and as my new Game of Thrones character Karsi.

Transparent creator showrunner Jill Soloway captured Gaby Hoffmann busting out some extra special dance floor theatrics after the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Plus an encounter with Abbi and Ilana.

More from the Critics’ Choice Awards with Yael Grobglas snapping a car selfie with some of the Jane the Virgin cast on the way to the event.

Plus an excellent table shot with some unaware participants.

More from the best dressed cast at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Sad faces all around.

And more (plus a close up of Jane Levy’s excellent lip color).

Amy Schumer couldn’t attend the Critics’ Choice Awards as she was at the Peabody Awards (SO many awards this week), but TJ Miller made sure she was kinda there.

Ultimate lady gang hangout goals at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Must wear something with gold accents.

Kerry Washington reacts to Maisie Williams in the most relatable way.

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

27 May

Reunions, reminders of how long ago a show left the air and plenty more behind the scenes action in this week’s TV Instagram selection.

Still feeling emotional about the end of Mad Men? Elisabeth Moss has you covered with this photo from her final day and it is fitting that her last scene is with Vincent Kartheiser after all their characters have been through together. This also gives me another reason to talk about how much I love Peggy’s costuming as this is a Top 3 ensemble.

Yes I love it when onscreen besties also hangout in real life, even more so when it is long after a show has ended and a Buffy reunion like this ticks all those boxes. Especially when they (accidentally) co-ordinate their denims.

I have conflicted Dawn feelings (okay they’re not that conflicted, but Georgina Sparks made me appreciate Michelle Trachtenberg in a whole new way), but this shot from “Once More with Feeling” is stunning. And how has it been 12 years since this show ended?! That is not okay.

The last ever episode of Late Show with David Letterman delivered another TV reunion.

Continuing the “How many cast members can you fit in one elevator?” selfie series with Scandal. Not quite as crowded as the CW lovefest; might need to get a few more #TGIT representatives in here.

This photo by Eliot Glazer is making me want to go to a dog wedding or at least rewatch “The Matrix” episode of Broad City.

At the moment I can’t stop listening to John Mulaney’s “Salt and Pepper Diner” story and while this might be a rather tenuous link I’m going with it.

Diane Kruger picks the perfect outfit for her Oxford University visit. Got a whole lot of hat/coat/bag envy right now.

True love is sharing prop pizza on the You’re the Worst set. Continuing the excellent sunglasses trend too.

The Jane the Virgin cast also like each other a lot.

Just in case you are getting Flash or Arrow withdrawals Caity Lotz has you covered.

Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

29 Apr

You’re the Worst doesn’t have a return date yet (*sigh*) however the cast are back on set and they are already gifting us with plenty of photos. More like you’re the best (I will see myself out). Also included in this week’s Instagram round-up is my new favorite show, an unexpected crossover idea, Mad Men feels and getting ready for wrestling.

https://instagram.com/p/1zNCHXCMhw/?taken-by=maybeayacash

Aya Cash calls it like she sees it when it comes to her co-stars dissatisfaction at this adorable photo. Yes I am still coveting Cash’s Alice + Olivia dress that she wore to the FX event.

Worstie besties forever.

Will Edgar still harbor his “This Woman’s Work” infused crush on Lindsay? All signs point to yes, especially if she is wearing this super cute strapless dress.

Adding to the forever always Peggy Olson worship is this photo courtesy of Elisabeth Moss from the set of Mad Men. Forever wincing at what Vincent Kartheiser went through to get the perfect Pete Campbell hairline.

Dramatic eye makeup for Yael Grobglas as she gets ready for Petra as The Cold Warrior on Jane the Virgin.

https://instagram.com/p/1_RykBOqZW/?taken-by=jennyslate

Without having seen a single episode I’m already calling the untitled Jenny Slate/Ari Graynor FX show from The Obvious Child team my new favorite. T-necks and leather jackets assemble.

This organized chaos desk scene looks very familiar and Jessica Williams audacious Effie Trinket inspired outfit is all part of a Daily Show bit skewering CNN’s coverage of the WHCD over Baltimore.

The Elementary team are pretty prolific Instagram users, but alas they have shot the final day of season 3 so this will be the last one from awhile (it hasn’t been renewed yet, but it seems likely it will).

https://instagram.com/p/11MowVN6j6/?taken-by=ilanusglazer

I just really adore this photo/sentiment/Abbi’s outfit.

Crossover potential ahoy! The Scandal team would probably do pretty well in a zombie apocalypse situation particularly the B613 trained folk. It would not be so good for all the beautiful costumes which feature on the show. If they ever get to Washington DC on The Walking Dead they might need a fixer of a different kind.

Amazing Outfits Aplenty at the Variety Emmy Studio

31 Mar

Award season has only just wrapped up, but there is another coming in a few months time and the Emmy chatter hum is already starting. The red carpet is part of why I adore award season, the other is all the pre-gaming with endless roundtables and GoldDerby one-on-one interviews. The actual winners and ceremony is far down the list and this is reserved for mostly outrage at the omissions.

Variety host an annual Emmy studio and while they have favored panels in the past (and they might still go down this route) over the weekend a variety of comedy and drama stars from network, cable and streaming platforms interviewed each other. While these videos aren’t available to watch just yet – I will definitely be discussing/posting those when they do – we can see what everyone was wearing and it is safe to say they ladies are killing it.

Don, Claire, Lizzy, AllisonA Showtime foursome (although Allison Janney is there for Mom) with Don Cheadle, Claire Danes, Lizzy Caplan and Allison Janney. Claire Danes is wearing a fabulous check Erdem frock complete with the requisite pocketed goodness. Caplan’s lipstick game is strong with Janney’s glasses earn best accessory. And like most of the dudes at this thing Cheadle looks good, but in pretty standard attire.

Variety panel - Fred, Abbi, Ilana, CarrieThere is a lot of “Yas Kween!” about this photo from Abbi Jacobson’s floral and leather jacket combo, the crop top/necklace pairing Ilana Glazer has opted for and Carrie Brownstein’s pink lipstick and tuxedo jacket. You look fine too, Fred.

Maggie and LievReally excited to see Maggie Gyllenhaal taking part and talking The Honourable Woman as it was one of my favorite performances of last year. And Gyllenhaal is looking lovely in print with Liev Schreiber getting a whole lot of stripe sock points.

Jessica and TaylorI love how giddy Taylor Schilling looks next to Jessica Lange while her all black ensemble with leather pants is exudes cool.

Jane and ViolaMajor style and legend status at play here with Jane Fonda and Viola Davis; this is one chat I can’t wait to see.

Jeffrey Tambor and JLDAnd I really want to know what’s going on in this photo to make Jeffery Tambor look so concerned. Orange is a really great color on Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Director Variety chatThrilled there’s going to be an all women director’s discussion with Gail Mancuso, Jill Soloway, Lisa Cholodenko, Lesli Linka Glatter (director of Now and Then! Plus a whole lot of TV faves) and Michelle MacLaren. This will be another ‘soon as the video goes up I will post it on here’ situation. Ace floral and stripe top from Jill Soloway.

Uzo and Gina VarietyWell, this is just the best and there is so much joy to be had from Gina Rodriguez and Uzo Aduba taking a selfie together. Both women are in A+ dresses and that color on Aduba is everything.

Kerry Washington VarietyLove Kerry Washington in Giambattista Valli pattern clashing polka dot/floral frock and that she’s gone for a colorful pair of lace pumps.

Taraji and MindyAnother selfie and amazing outfit duo with Mindy Kaling and Taraji P. Henson. Vibrant yellow on Henson is stunning and Kaling’s matching skirt and top is super pretty.

Julianna MarguliesSticking to a designer favorite is Julianna Margulies in Narciso Rodriguez and this classic monochromatic take is really working for The Good Wife star.

Turning Two with Broad City: Abbi, Ilana and Me

17 Mar

TV Ate My Wardrobe turns two next month and with this comes far too much introspection and anxiety when contemplating what I have/haven’t done since its inception. Carving out a corner of one’s own is a daunting task when the internet has already been chopped up in every way imaginable and if there’s one show to aid optimism rather than feed my hypercritical side it is Broad City. Yesterday I wrote about the notion of faking everything on Girls and while the two shows are of course very different the location and age/gender of the protagonists leads to automatic comparisons. The reason I bring it up is because Abbi and Ilana aren’t so much faking anything and instead they are taking the opportunities they have and running with them even if this results in falling down a hole in a park or smashing a very expensive mirror.

Broad City 2.08There are a lot of things to write about Broad City this season and for some inexplicable reason I’ve been experiencing a kind of block with what direction to take this piece in. The garbled notes this post started as looked a little something like this:

Bras

Drew Barrymore impression

Lady friendship

Sex-positive

Body confidence

Style

Kelly fucking Ripa

VAL

Analyze this if you will and the one somewhat cohesive element is that every single thing on that list is something you can derive a lot of joy from and Broad City’s appeal lies in how much fun is to be had by the characters on screen and from watching it.

Role model is a term which suggests living the ‘right’ way and rather Abbi and Ilana (both Wexler/Abrams and Glazer/Jacobson) are showing how to live your best life whether its sitting on the couch falling into the occasional internet hole or trying to progress with your dream job or even your dreamish one. It is telling a different story of your twenties which doesn’t necessarily rely on falling in love or making a buttload of money; if you’ve got your best friend by your side and a day of unplanned adventure whether that’s finding the Narnia of parties or skating to a dog wedding this is all you need in that moment. Your twenties is not just for the daily grind of figuring it out but having someone to do this with.

Broad City 2.05It doesn’t really feel like there is anything else quite like Broad City on TV particularly in regards to sex-positive storylines such as Abbi’s pegging experience and Ilana’s encounter with a woman who looks a whole lot like her last week (Alia Shawkat shout out). These aren’t portrayed as A Very Special Episode BIG DEAL encounters nor is Abbi and Ilana’s sexuality played just for laughs. Things go right, things go wrong and the other is always just a phone call or video chat step away for all or none of the advice they might need.

The clothes worn on screen is a big part of who we are at TV Ate My Wardrobe and Broad City’s costume design features an endless stream of crop/vest tops, funky bras and leggings making this a summer show for the ages. Ah yes Broad City shoots in the sunnier months so the warmer climate attire reads a little odd while I’m up to my eyeballs in knitwear, but it also plays into the wish fulfillment aspect. Abbi and Ilana don’t just excel at all things casual as they kill it whenever they have a fancier affair to attend whether its Abbi rewearing her “Fattest Asses” dress of glory (because this is what people do) or Ilana’s shiva outfit in “Knockoffs” (a personal favorite of mine and one that also incorporates the top Ilana wore in “Fattest Asses”).

[source]

One of TV Ate My Wardrobe’s regular features is “The Wish List” and generally everything featured on there would either fall into the splurge or ‘there is no way I could ever afford this’ category. With Broad City the outfits come from places within Abbi and Ilana’s means and recently costume designer Staci Greenbaum spoke to Flavorwire mentioning where they shop “We tend to do a lot of H&M, Topshop, Forever 21. We do thrift stores. We do Beacon’s Closet sometimes, as you saw.” The dress Abbi wore in “Coat Check” when she went to Kelly Ripa’s to return her jacket is from H&M and it is something this Jane the Virgin post touched on; after almost two years of writing about the clothes we see on screen I can tell you it makes a difference when you see a character wearing something that is fancy affordable rather than a gorgeous, but crazy expensive item.

Broad City 2.09Style and figure wise I am far more Abbi than Ilana as the thought of wearing either a crop top or shorts has me running for the hills. The body confidence of both women is something to celebrate as we’ve seen both each of them shed their clothes this season – with blur bars – from Abbi’s Lady Gaga naked apartment dance to Ilana’s modeling in Abbi’s life drawing class. And what about Val? Abbie’s blackout drunk alter ego and the moment that made me scream the most (so far) this season. So unexpected, so amazing and the perfect way to deal with Ilana’s FOMO.

Broad City ValCheesy sounding sentiment it might be but there is something incredibly inspiring about Broad City and the two women behind the show and in front of the camera; I am proud of what this website has achieved so far but I know there is still the Narnia of parties out there and my Val moment is yet to come. When I feel like garbage and in one of those feeling worthless spirals I know a Broad City pick me up will help resolve the funk and give a push in the right direction. And before I spill too much all over the page I want to close on one of another season 2 highlight moments from and why I heart Abbi and Ilana so hard. It’s just like how Abbi feels about Drew Barrymore.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week – Magazine Cover Roundup

13 Mar

A bonus “Out of the Box” as there is just too many brilliant new magazine covers to squeeze into our regular column. I have in the past talked about my magazine feelings (they are strong) and new magazine cover week is often a mixture of disappointment and excitement; sometimes bad photoshop takes the shine off, alternatively a cover star might be a someone unexpected and amazing.

Different editorials are aiming for a variety of things with shifting units being high on the list of priorities and the cover has a huge impact on this. Fashion, entertainment and lifestyle magazines all feature in this week’s column and I will be adding all these issues to my already burgeoning print and digital collection.

Mad MenThe first of many Mad Men covers to come celebrating/sobbing over the final hurrah and they are starting with a doozy on The Hollywood Reporter. In the issue they go back to the beginning with an oral history and the only thing this cover shot is lacking is some Kiernan Shipka. They all look fabulous and if you want to find the perfect way to distract yourself just take a look at the Jon Hamm close-up portraits.

Maisie WilliamsApril is going to be a great month for TV and Game of Thrones is high on the most anticipated list. Experiencing the build-up buzz for the first time after finally catching up last year is going to be fun; case in point the unveiling of Arya Stark’s new look with a hint of “Tragic Kingdom” era Gwen Stefani on the cover of Entertainment Weekly got me all a fluster. New costumes to pore over ahoy.

IMG_1406Because all things Broad City, including this New York cover lead to joy (except the realization the season finale is next week).

Marie Claire Kerry WashingtonKerry Washington is mesmerizing on Marie Claire’s April edition and after last month’s InStyle debacle it is an image that thankfully looks like the Scandal star. It is a captivating pose and while they’ve gone for an Olivia Pope clothing color palette, there is plenty of Washington shining through with very un-Olivia like tussled hair. Soon to be Scandal guest star Lena Dunham has written the piece aptly entitled “Why We All Want to be Kerry Washington.”

Robin WrightAnother stare into your soul cover from another amazing lady; Robin Wright is exuding all kinds of cool on Vanity Fair and she is the main reason House of Cards is calling out to me. Short hair perfection and the story behind this amazing cut is that it was a necessity ““I was just cutting off damaged hair—too much bleach over months of [appearing in] different movies. It was a mercy killing, but it works for the character.” Iconic haircuts often are the result of an accident (see the Rachel) and this is one of those.

Head here for a PaleyFest themed “Out of the Box.”

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

13 Mar

PaleyFest is in full swing and this week’s “Out of the Box” is dedicated to the style highs from the ScandalThe Good WifeBroad CityOutlander, Homeland and Girls panels. The line between casual/fancy is blurred at these types of events and on the whole it is probably best to remember there will be a lot of sitting down photos after the obligatory red carpet posing. Red carpet is where our focus lies, but first a moment of panel facial expression joy.

Julianna Margulies and Christine BaranskiThis shot of Julianna Margulies and Christine Baranski is everything and I’m pretty sure their laughter could power buildings.

Kerry WashingtonA very fun look from Kerry Washington in Mary Katrantzou, which is all textured goodness including a sequined bodice and delightful collar. The pop of yellow and a darker lip color really makes this outfit sing.

Darby StanchfieldAnother Scandal style high with Darby Stanchfield wearing a whole lot red in a 2nd Skin Co. super sparkly frock. This is an occasion where bold lip color is not needed as that would be a shade red too far.

Lena Dunham and JenjiPatterns ahoy from Lena Dunham in Tanya Taylor and Jenni Konner working metallic color explosion with a black sweater and looking fantastic in the process.

Abbi Jacobson PaleyFestRelaxed cool from Abbi Jacobson at the Comedy Central panel in this not quite polka dot sleeveless shirt.

Caitriona BalfeLooking a whole lot like the tuxedo inspired jumpsuit Maya Rudolph wore at the SNL 40th anniversary is Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe. A reminder to catch up with Outlander before it returns coupled with the desire to finally try a jumpsuit on at some point in the near future.

Claire Danes PaleyFestLeaving Claire Danes in Proenza Schouler until last because I’m pretty sure this can be filed under “Danes Style Blindness” as the snakeskin strip of random is a whole lot of what? and yet I also think she has pulled it off. Like I said this is a case of “Danes Style Blindness” – the phenomenon to describe someone who you think looks amazing no matter what they are wearing.

Bonus “Out of the Box” this week with this magazine cover special.
