Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

12 Nov

Master of None was how I spent my weekend and there’s a whole bunch of photos from this show on this week’s TV Instagram round-up including one that hit me right in the feels. Plus plenty of other set shenanigans from shows like ElementaryJane the Virgin and the forthcoming Legends of Tomorrow.

Future excellent Good Wife guest star and excellent Lucca Quinn outfit ahoy.

The excellent Master of None is definitely a family affair with Aziz Ansari’s parents playing his parents on the show and his brother Aniz collaborated on the writing end. I am now in a post marathoning funk.

And now things are getting a little misty up in here.

I mentioned this a couple of days ago, but I really hope there is more Shannon in season 2 because Danielle Brooks killed it as Dev’s agent.

And you should definitely Treat Yo Self.

Mostly I just want an excuse to talk about how incredible Regina King is on The Leftovers this week (and every week) and the questionnaire scene with Carrie Coon is jaw-droppingly good. Powerhouse performances from both women and I am still thinking about it.

The cast of The Americans has just as much fun with the disguises as I do writing about them.

More from The Americans season 4 table reads and is that Dylan Baker I spy sitting there?

https://www.instagram.com/p/96sn3RQqBz/?taken-by=glenpowell

Scream Queens is pretty patchy; one person who has been consistently brilliant throughout is Glen Powell and he really can work a golf bro ensemble.

I want to see which character comes next in this chain. Maybe Andy Sachs.

Fake rain or real rain on Legends of Tomorrow? I will be very glad when this show starts because a) more Victor Garber on TV and b) Arrow and The Flash can go back to focusing on their own storylines rather than setting up the spinoff.

Elementary made a very welcome return last week and I am as happy as Lucy Liu and Aidan Quinn are delightful in this Jonny Lee Miller snapped shot.

I still need to watch last week’s episode and so I’m reading the look on Viola Davis’ face as one that is questioning my viewing choices.

Best of the 2015 Glamour Women of the Year Awards

10 Nov

There is not a whole lot of 2015 left and time has a way of flying by as we near those end of year lists (I need to start working on mine) and last night the Glamour Women of the Year Awards were held at Carnegie Hall in New York City. This is always one of my favorites because it celebrates a range of women and achievements and I just feel so darn positive afterwards. For more on this year’s recipients head here.

Viola DavisViola Davis’ daughter dressed up as her mother winning an Emmy for Halloween and it was pretty much the most adorable costume ever. Davis is onto another winner in red and black with some really excellent accessorizing.

Lupita Nyong'oWe’re almost at Star Wars press tour time, which means we are in for a treat with way more Lupita Nyong’o red carpet looks are ahead of us. Going for understated elegance in Jason Wu and working it like a charm while on hand to present Misty Copeland with her award.

Dascha PolancoDascha Polanco is serving up caped excellence and giving amazing face. I think this is her best red carpet look to date.

Danielle BrooksAnother fabulous turn from an Orange is the New Black star with Danielle Brooks in a color blocking delight. Oh hey there pockets! Just to make this even better. Brooks is in Aziz Ansari’s new show Master of None and next season needs more of Dev’s ambitious agent Shannon, who is all about getting that Friends money.

Alex MorganThe whole US Women’s soccer team was honored at the event; deservedly so after their World Cup win and Alex Morgan’s red and purple floral gown is beautiful. More pocket plus points getting dished out.

SerenaSports stars slaying all over the place with Serena Williams demonstrating how to do sheer in a way that doesn’t make me want to weep from boredom.

Victoria and Brooklyn BeckhamThe big trends of the night were red and black; these tend to be in favor this time of year and Victoria Beckham embraced crimson in a dress from her own collection. Well if you are getting honored for your work in fashion then it makes sense to showcase your work. Brooklyn Beckham continues to follow in his father’s footsteps by looking rather dapper all suited up.

Amy, Eve and SelenaMore red and one thing I like about this photo other than the perfect red dress symmetry is how random this grouping is; I am so here for groups of people you don’t expect posing together. Amy Schumer’s red Alexander McQueen is a switch up from the LBDs she’s been sporting recently and I love a flared sleeve. Selena Gomez is mixing sweet with sexy in Valentino and Eve Hewson embraces the 90s with a lipstick Winona would be proud of.

Misty CopelandTurtlenecks are in favor again and Misty Copeland shows how they can be worn in a formal setting like this; playing with this classic look as she picks up her Woman of the Year Award.

Elisabeth MossMore 90s lipstick realness from Elisabeth Moss and she’s hitting the vampy line hard in this velvet and sheer frock. There is a danger of looking too washed out when your hair is this blonde and I’m not feeling the shoes, but 90s nostalgia wins out for me here because I am a sucker for this.

Reese WitherspoonOkay so I’m not crazy about Reese Witherspoon’s Erdem dress – the floral pattern/texture is great, it’s the lace neckline that makes it too fussy – but I love everything about her speech. Reese talks about her acting career and how ambition shouldn’t be a dirty word. She also discusses her production company and the exciting slate they have ahead:

“We have over 25 films in development and three television shows, and they all have female leads of different ages and different races and different jobs. Some are astronauts, some are soldiers, some are scientists, one is even a Supreme Court justice. They’re not just good or bad; they’re bold and hunted and dangerous and triumphant like the real women we meet every single day of our lives.”

The full speech is really inspiring and while I am in danger of sounding corny I do always feel extra motivated after reading about events like this.

Judith Light, Caitlyn Jenner and Cindi LeiveOne final and super fun photo with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive hanging out with Woman of the Year, Caitlyn Jenner and the always amazing Judith Light. Light presented Jenner with her award and this is another great dress color symmetry shot. I also love that Jenner has taken her shoes off by this point because I am incapable of keeping a pair of heels on all night.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

2 Oct

A Shondaland celebration, thematic dresses, patterns for fall and more magazine cover/interview delights from Bust in this week’s “Out of the Box.”

Viola DavisKeeping it classic at the Entertainment Weekly party celebrating #TGIT is Viola Davis fresh off that Emmy win. Great lipstick, bracelets and metallic sandals elevate the LBD look. After quitting How to Get Away with Murder mid first season I have returned to the fold and the season 2 premiere did a good job of sucking me back in to all the drama, even if I still can’t remember the names of over half the characters.

Jerrika Hinton, Caterina Scorsone, and Kelly McCrearyGrey’s Anatomy trio all sporting fun looks ticking #ladysuitwatch2015 and cute Peter Pan collar dress boxes. Jerrika Hinton’s high neck lace blouse, t-bar shoes and bold lip color gives her the edge over co-stars Caterina Scorsone and Kelly McCreary, but all three are very welcome additions.

Camilla LuddingtonA precarious #ladysuitwatch2015 from Camilla Luddington and one that probably requires quite a lot of tape, but hey if you can do the suit no shirt thing then go for it as Luddington has.

Kate MaraThere are some projects where it is much easier to work the theme into a red carpet outfit and Kate Mara has done just this at the New York Film Festival premiere for The Martian. This Valentino frock is on the nose of course for this particular film, but the whimsy wins out.

Kristen WiigAlso from the NYFF Martian premiere is Kristen Wiig in Oscar de la Renta. The floral bodice is a slightly awkward design and yet the romantic nature of this gown/non-fussy styling – yes even those beige strappy sandals – makes this a style triumph for Wiig.

Diane KrugerDiane Kruger’s showing how to do in bloom patterns for fall in Preen at the Fashion 4 Development’s 5th annual Official First Ladies luncheon. As this is a daytime event the ankle boots are ideal for giving off a more casual edge and the Mark Cross box bag (which I really want) sells ‘I have some important shit to say’ as Kruger was a guest speaker at this event. Perfect for keeping those flash cards safe.

https://instagram.com/p/8J9FC8pQwO/?taken-by=mindykaling

Another fantastic book tour outfit from Mindy Kaling wearing a TV Ate My Wardrobe designer fave in Roksanda. I devoured Why Not Me? in a couple of sittings and there are some great chapters on personal style, but it is Mindy’s White House dating story that is my personal standout chapter as it encapsulates everything from work, confidence and the rom-com tone which is at the heart of The Mindy Project.

Aidy BryantBust continues to kill it with their choice of cover star with SNL’s Aidy Bryant following on from Jenny Slate and it is a profile which covers a lot of the standard ground – career, love life, school – but in way which feels like we are learning more than surface level BS. When discussing the shows she has been on (SNLBroad CityGirls) she mentions her positive experiences “It’s very cool that their costume departments have been totally accommodating. And guess what? They should be.”

This isn’t always the case when it comes to big magazine shoots with the rest of the cast as “They’ll have two dress options for me and they’ll have 20 for Kate, Vanessa, Cecily and Sasheer. Those are the only times where I’m like, ‘This is wrong. I manage to dress myself in a cool way. A professional stylist could have figured it out.'” Get better at this other magazines; I love the Peter Pan collar ASOS Curve dress from this cover shot.

Best of the Emmy Red Carpet – Bold Color and Print

21 Sep

Pink was not the only color on the Emmy red carpet and this is one of the brightest and boldest displays in recent years with a lot less monochromatic offerings. We’ve given you sparkle, now here are some patterned treats.

Ellie KemperEllie Kemper didn’t get nominated for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but she more than makes up for this in a stunning multi-color Naeem Khan dress; definitely a top 5 pick.

Zoe KazanBetween Ellie Kemper and Zoe Kazan I am getting rather mesmerized by their frocks; Kazan’s red and white Miu Miu is perfect for her twee styling, which I adore. Red lipstick points ahoy!

Laverne CoxA flawless look for Laverne Cox in a teal Calvin Klein Collection dress.

Mindy KalingCanary gowns will forever have to stand up to the Best Oscar Gown and Mindy Kaling’s custom Salavador Perez is definitely striking and the highlight of the 2015 Emmy yellow frock push.

Lauren LapkusThe pattern, cut and color is gorgeous on Lauren Lapkus and I would love it if she returned to Orange is the New Black.

Kristen SchaalKristen Schaal and Lauren Lapkus could definitely play sisters and someone should get on that. Meanwhile Kristen Schaal is resplendent in shimmering Rubin Singer.

Judith LightJudith Light slaying in floral Zac Posen.

Maggie GyllenhaalGoing for big colorful ball gown Oscar de la Renta and Maggie Gyllenhaal doesn’t over accessorize this already dramatic look.

Kiernan ShipkaWe’ve entered the “I don’t know why Dior keep doing this” portion and I’m including this to show that Kiernan Shipka is very much a Magical Fashion Unicorn, but she deserves so much better than this.

January JonesThe same can be said for January Jones and she is certainly working the Ulyana Sergeenko Couture jumpsuit, but the draping is causing me to pull all kinds of confused faces. The color and brooch are stunning and yet I really wish this was a dress or a slightly more tailored jumpsuit.

January and ElisabethIn fact from behind it looks better and this shot with former co-star Elisabeth Moss is giving me all the feelings.

Danielle BrooksA twirling dream from Danielle Brooks in pleated custom Christian Siriano. Whenever I wear a pleated skirt or dress I spend half my day twirling. I don’t get much done.

Emily RobinsonThe cut of Emily Robinson’s Kayat gown reminds me of Caitlin Fitzgerald at the Golden Globes and it is working just as well for Robinson in this delicate print.

Chelsea Peretti and Jordan PeeleBest couple alert! A fun floral contrast from Chelsea Peretti in Gabriela Cadena and Jordan Peele doing the standard tuxedo thing.

Teyonah ParrisTeyonah Parris twirls in Francesca Miranda polka dots in this stunning mid-action shot.

Viola Davis EmmyClosing our Emmy gown rundown with THE moment of the night and Viola Davis winning Best Actress in a Drama. The Carmen Marc Valvo dress is amazing, her speech is better and you can watch it below.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

4 Sep

Avoiding all things sheer from the VMAs and still picking some maybe contentious looks from the night showing my bias toward certain patterns and colors. Plus it is time for tennis and cute frocks as we transition from summer and fall. And we’ve also got the TGIT Entertainment Weekly cover.

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift’s glitzy Ashish ensemble has been pretty divisive and I am firmly in the love it camp; yes it looks like fancy pajamas or exercise attire, but I am all in on the houndstooth pattern and it is something slightly different for Tay. The Christian Louboutin ‘Pumpstagram’ pumps don’t entirely go with the look and yet I am still drooling all over them.

Cara DelevingneStarry Saint Laurent for Cara Delevigne and my favorite sartorial turn from Team Taylor at the VMAs. This is relaxed cool and Cara really looks like she gives none of the fucks. And I suspect she probably doesn’t.

Gigi HadidIn the same way I can’t resist houndstooth this shade of yellow is my weakness and this Emilia Wickstead dress happens to be called ‘Emma:’ yes Gigi Hadid looks like she has come to the VMAs cosplaying the Mad Men episode “The Jet Set” and I am more than fine with this. Still shaking my head at myself as I only just realized that Yolanda from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is Gigi’s mother.

Kat GrahamKat Graham is not one to shy away from a bold red carpet look and vintage Versace is ideal for her. Plus pockets!

Amanda SeyfriedMoving on and I will spending the next two weeks obsessing over the US Open and this kicks off a busy couple of weeks in New York (Fashion Week is coming). The 15th annual USTA opening night gala took place on Monday and Amanda Seyfried’s RED Valentino frock is cute collar perfection.

Anna ChlumskyAnna Chlumsky’s white ribbed dress is tennis watching simple chic and would look even better with a glass of Pimms and lemonade in hand (yes this is the US Open, but traditional Wimbledon drinks are where it is at).Fall TV is right around the corner and Thursday night television is Shondaland on ABC. This is my favorite of the four Entertainment Weekly covers as it showcases Shonda and her leading ladies and with Shonda at the center; the red of her dress matches the cover title and she is the star here.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

7 Aug

TCA continues and so do the cute patterned frocks on this week’s “Out of the Box.” a dash of a couple of other events and magazine covers.

Kerry WashingtonThis kind of reminds me of a colorful version of the wallpaper in Sherlock’s 221b Baker Street, which doesn’t necessarily sound like the compliment it is meant to be. Kerry Washington looks great in Mary Katrantzou at the ABC day at TCA.

Viola DavisViola Davis was also part of the TGIT panel at TCA and she switched out her heels for far more comfy looking flats for the photocall. They might not completely go with this patterned cocktail dress, but I’m all for her continuing this trend.

Elizabeth HenstridgeThere is a lot going on here with Elizabeth Henstridge in House of Holland and yet it manages to stay this side of psychedelic experiment. It feeds into everything I love about a very 70s sleeping bag I once had (but with less orange/brown). Once again this doesn’t sound like the good thing I was intending it too.

Camilla LuddingtonThis outfit is super cute and Camilla Luddington’s lipstick blouse gets added to the list of clothes I need with a makeup motif. Maybe I need to change this to “What Lipstick Top is She Wearing?”

Chace Crawford and Ed WestwickYou know you love me. xoxo

P.S. This really making me want to start that Gossip Girl rewatch that I am always talking about and have no time for right now.

TransparentAt the Transparent panel they announced the season 2 premiere date (December 4!) and Jay Duplass ditched the top button done up styling of his character Josh, while Judith Light is a vision in white.

Joanna FroggattThe Downton Abby cast are starting their final hurrah and Joanne Froggatt stood out at the TCA photocall in Ermanno Scervino’s fun take on houndstooth adding a pop of color with red strappy sandals.

Taraji P HensonAt the Empire panel on Thursday Taraji P. Henson went for simple chic in a long sleeve Cushnie et Ochs teal dress adding oomph to this look with embellished Alaïa sandals.

Christina BaranskiMoving onto the Ricki and the Flash premiere with Christine Baranski killing it off screen as much as she does when she is Diane Lockhart.

Laverne CoxA very fun twist to the standard mini dress from Laverne Cox in Elizabeth & James paired with studded white Louboutins. This blue is really great on her as is the vampy shade of red lipstick.

Christina ApplegateChristina Applegate goes for 70s inspired plunging glam in a stunning Naeem Khan at the 5th Annual Celebration of Dance Gala presented by the Dizzy Feet Foundation.

Idris ElbaIdris Elba is the first guy to appear on the cover of Maxim (this fact surprised me) and boy did they pick a very striking cover image. Never before have I considered buying this magazine, but they might have me with this fantastic editorial including Idris wearing so many good coats.

Jenji KohanThere’s no mistaking who the cover star of Variety’s female showrunner issue is this week with Jenji Kohan’s recognizable specs and colorful hair. This quote from The Affair’s Sarah Treem really resonates “This is not about rah-rah girl power. This is about advice on how to literally run a show and adapt to what you’re given in a way that can make it work. “It’s helpful to have people tell you you’re not crazy to be struggling with it, and also helpful to have people tell you you have to adjust the way you’re working.”

Kirsten DunstA couple of week’s ago I mentioned how my teenage love for Kirsten Dunst was likely to resurface as a result of Fargo season 2 and as if on schedule upon seeing her editorial in the September issue of Town & Country I clapped with glee upon seeing the photos. There’s a little 70s styling in the woodland shots which is entirely appropriate given the setting. In the interview Dunst mentions how she got some helpful advice regarding the TV transition:

“TV is a lot harder than film. A lot harder. When I got the part, my friend Lizzy [Caplan], who is on Masters of Sex, said, ‘Be sure to get B12 shots to get you through the week.’ I was like, ‘Really? That sounds very dramatic, Lizzy.’ By the third week I was all over the B12. It was one of the best roles I’ve ever played—the writing is spectacular—but by the end I was tapped out.”

Dunst also briefly discusses her Fargo character Peggy Blomquist “She is very much like me at my craziest, my mother at her craziest, my grandma at her craziest. I could really combine the nutsiest parts of the women in my family.”

Drama Actress Emmy Roundtable – “I Want to Play Everything I’ve Never Played Before” (Update! Watch the Full Video)

11 Jun

This is the one I have been waiting for and every year the drama actress roundtable is the highlight of The Hollywood Reporter’s Emmy series. It might be a premature declaration as there are still more discussions to come as part of this season, but I am pretty confident in this assertion after reading the transcript and watching the clips which have been made available prior to SundanceTV airing it in full come August (Update – you can now watch the full discussion at the end of this post). I do want to point to the comedy actress chat as another enlightening and fascinating entry into the roundtable Hall of Fame. And now there is another group to add to my boozy lunch wish list.

The line-up is entirely different to last year (sometimes there are repeats) with Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Honourable Woman), Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder), Taraji P. Henson (Empire), Jessica Lange (American Horror Story), Ruth Wilson (The Affair) and Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex). Gone are the questions of ‘how do you balance work and family?’ and instead there is a strong focus on their work from the shows they are currently on to past experiences. There are four Oscar nominees among these women (some multiple) and a two time winner showing the caliber of talent television attracts particularly when it comes to complex roles for women. A mixture of cable and network with ages ranging from 32 to 66 shows how well television caters to a range of experiences.

THRAs the cover so boldly states there is a focus on race, sex, age and nudity with the latter coming up on multiple occasions. Lizzy Caplan and Ruth Wilson joke about the name of their network – “Showtits” – and sex plays a big part in both Masters of Sex (it is in the title after all) and The Affair. Sex isn’t just there for sensationalism or to be gratuitous; it is worth noting that both shows have a female showrunner with Caplan going so far as pointing out that Michelle Ashford is kinda prudish and those scenes can be hard for all involved.

How to Get Away with Murder is Viola Davis’ first starring role on prime time and she talks about her initial concerns when she took the project on including her appearance. There is one point which really sticks with me and is worth quoting in full exemplifying why this roundtable series strikes a chord:

“I’ve been doing this for 27 years. I’ve performed in basements, churches, off-Broadway. I want the work to reflect my level of gifts and talent. I don’t want it to reflect my color, my sex or my age. That’s what I want most.”

The comedy actresses talked about bad auditions and incidents earlier in their careers where they maybe tried to adjust their look for an audition. This is something Maggie Gyllenhaal discusses in terms of her appearance and how she has been judged in the past in terms of being ‘sexy.’ Gyllenhaal also mentions her interest in nudity and what she looks for in a sex scene.

Cookie Lyon has made such a huge impact on the TV landscape this season and Taraji P. Henson jokes “I hate that bitch. She’s stolen my identity! My friends don’t want to talk to me unless it’s about Cookie.” I’m only halfway through Empire but within the first few minutes of seeing this character on screen it was love. Henson also reveals who she sometimes channels when she is playing Cookie and the answer is not who you might expect. There are no boundaries when it comes to want roles Henson wants to play “I want to play a superhero. I want to be a Bond girl. I want to play a man. I want to play a white woman. I want to play everything I’ve never played before.”

There are more clips to watch here before the full thing becomes available in August.

THR drama actress roundtableIn terms of the styling of the group it turns out I wasn’t proved wrong after all with an explosion of sparkle and while Ruth Wilson is the lone person in print (a beautiful Erdem frock), there is some color with Viola Davis’ Lanvin and range of styles suiting the wearer in question. Lizzy Caplan’s Donna Karan ensemble is reminiscent of her Donna Karan Atelier Emmy stunner from last year (Caplan also chose this designer when she wowed at the Met Gala last month). During the chat Caplan wears an oversized tuxedo jacket and looks super cool while doing so. Excellent lipstick game from all the ladies with Caplan’s fuchsia reminding me of my new favorite lip color. And now if you will excuse me I will be drawing hearts around this entire conversation.

Check back for more Emmy related discussions in the weeks/months to come.

Update! Watch the full uncensored Emmy Drama Actress roundtable below.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

29 May

A relatively quiet week for “Out of the Box” but there are still plenty of treats in store including another Sarah Michelle Gellar reunion moment, magazine covers, pre-Emmy nominations events and how to brighten up the red carpet if you’re a dude.

IMG_1659Orange is the New Black returns in just two weeks (and then we will have the dilemma of  how quick to watch it) and Bust continues its excellent cover run with Laverne Cox looking super cute in a very summery gingham halter top and high waisted shorts.

Ellie KemperEmmy roundtable season is here and The Hollywood Reporter kicked off the acting side of things with funny ladies talking about a whole range of issues in smart and interesting ways. Ellie Kemper’s tiered skirt (or an extreme twist on peplum) with the turquoise underlining is the standout in this collection of bold dresses and I love what she says about Kimmy’s style during this conversation “I think that [Kimmy] came from this horrible, unspeakable experience, and she is tough like a young girl might be tough. She is all pinks and candy and yellows but still very powerful.”

IMG_0680Now this is how you do a “For Your Consideration” ad with bonus lady suit points (those leather sleeves!).

Viola DavisAt a screening for How to Get Away with Murder, Viola Davis does casual chic in an all black ensemble save for some sparkly sneakers. Heels versus flats have been a big talking point since Cannes and while I’m not sure these kinds of flats would work on a big red carpet event, they look really great in this setting.

Cruel IntentionsThanks to a surprise reunion at a performance of The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions this post has been written with the Cruel Intentions soundtrack as the musical accompaniment (sorry neighbors for my attempts to sing-along to Skunk Anansie) and it has made me so happy for so many reasons. I think Sarah Michelle Gellar is fully on board with the 90s nostalgia kick. Next up recreating one of these WB ads.

Colton HaynesColton Haynes switches out this signature red for pink at the San Andreas premiere demonstrating that suits don’t just come in three colors.

Amazing Outfits Aplenty at the Variety Emmy Studio

31 Mar

Award season has only just wrapped up, but there is another coming in a few months time and the Emmy chatter hum is already starting. The red carpet is part of why I adore award season, the other is all the pre-gaming with endless roundtables and GoldDerby one-on-one interviews. The actual winners and ceremony is far down the list and this is reserved for mostly outrage at the omissions.

Variety host an annual Emmy studio and while they have favored panels in the past (and they might still go down this route) over the weekend a variety of comedy and drama stars from network, cable and streaming platforms interviewed each other. While these videos aren’t available to watch just yet – I will definitely be discussing/posting those when they do – we can see what everyone was wearing and it is safe to say they ladies are killing it.

Don, Claire, Lizzy, AllisonA Showtime foursome (although Allison Janney is there for Mom) with Don Cheadle, Claire Danes, Lizzy Caplan and Allison Janney. Claire Danes is wearing a fabulous check Erdem frock complete with the requisite pocketed goodness. Caplan’s lipstick game is strong with Janney’s glasses earn best accessory. And like most of the dudes at this thing Cheadle looks good, but in pretty standard attire.

Variety panel - Fred, Abbi, Ilana, CarrieThere is a lot of “Yas Kween!” about this photo from Abbi Jacobson’s floral and leather jacket combo, the crop top/necklace pairing Ilana Glazer has opted for and Carrie Brownstein’s pink lipstick and tuxedo jacket. You look fine too, Fred.

Maggie and LievReally excited to see Maggie Gyllenhaal taking part and talking The Honourable Woman as it was one of my favorite performances of last year. And Gyllenhaal is looking lovely in print with Liev Schreiber getting a whole lot of stripe sock points.

Jessica and TaylorI love how giddy Taylor Schilling looks next to Jessica Lange while her all black ensemble with leather pants is exudes cool.

Jane and ViolaMajor style and legend status at play here with Jane Fonda and Viola Davis; this is one chat I can’t wait to see.

Jeffrey Tambor and JLDAnd I really want to know what’s going on in this photo to make Jeffery Tambor look so concerned. Orange is a really great color on Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Director Variety chatThrilled there’s going to be an all women director’s discussion with Gail Mancuso, Jill Soloway, Lisa Cholodenko, Lesli Linka Glatter (director of Now and Then! Plus a whole lot of TV faves) and Michelle MacLaren. This will be another ‘soon as the video goes up I will post it on here’ situation. Ace floral and stripe top from Jill Soloway.

Uzo and Gina VarietyWell, this is just the best and there is so much joy to be had from Gina Rodriguez and Uzo Aduba taking a selfie together. Both women are in A+ dresses and that color on Aduba is everything.

Kerry Washington VarietyLove Kerry Washington in Giambattista Valli pattern clashing polka dot/floral frock and that she’s gone for a colorful pair of lace pumps.

Taraji and MindyAnother selfie and amazing outfit duo with Mindy Kaling and Taraji P. Henson. Vibrant yellow on Henson is stunning and Kaling’s matching skirt and top is super pretty.

Julianna MarguliesSticking to a designer favorite is Julianna Margulies in Narciso Rodriguez and this classic monochromatic take is really working for The Good Wife star.

Best of the 2015 SAG Awards – Black, White and Shimmer

26 Jan

Welcome to Part 2 of the SAG Awards coverage and while color was a big trend there was plenty of fantastic black, white and sparkly gowns on display. Check out our faves below.

Viola DavisViola Davis won for How to Get Away with Murder and did so in a stunning custom MaxMara halter gown in one of the best looks of the night.

Sarah PaulsonA surprising turn from Sarah Paulson in black and white Giorgio Armani. Surprising in that it manages to look different to a lot of other red carpet attire without landing in the usual ‘huh’ spot Paulson favors.

Joanne FroggattJoanne Froggatt does the whole black mermaid gown thing but what elevates this Honor gown is the pointed bodice.

Lorelei LinklaterA very different black Honor gown for Lorelei Linklater and I love the gothy vibe and bell sleeves. This looks like something April Ludgate would wear to an awards show and I cannot wait to see what Lorelei will wear to the Oscars (and what color hair streak she opts for). Bonus red lip color points also awarded.

Maggie GyllenhaalMaggie Gyllenhaal’s custom Thakoon white gown is very Nessa Stein and I love that her Honourable Woman character’s style is sneaking in on this red carpet.

Chelsea PerettiNew favorite couple alert! Chelsea Peretti’s midnight blue Rubin Singer gown has a gold shimmer and Jordan Peele’s all black suit perfectly complements the look without going matchy matchy.

Amy Poehler and Natasha LyonneAnother perfect pair and both are going for the beaded sparkle thing with Amy Poehler in Jenny Packham and Natasha Lyonne in custom Proenza Schouler. Fun shenanigans look like they are being had.

Reese WitherspoonOff the shoulder was a big trend at the SAGs with plenty opting for color and asymmetric; Reese Witherspoon avoids looking bridal in custom Giorgio Armani adding sparkle with the sequin diagonal strip.

Kelly Macdonald and Gretchen MolBoardwalk Empire ladies reunion and Kelly Macdonald’s black vintage Moschino is how you do a shorter length at an event like this, even if it does look slightly casual next to Gretchen Mol in an ethereal Dennis Basso silver gown.

Jackie CruzAnother custom Christian Siriano frock for an Orange is the New Black actress and Jackie Cruz is a sequinned gold beauty.

Emmy RossumThis photo doesn’t quite convey how much sparkle there is on Emmy Rossum’s Swarovski crystal infused Armani Privé gown, but she looks stunning nonetheless.

Nikolaj Coster-WaldauSwitching to a couple of fine looking dudes and Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau wears a tuxedo as well as he does a suit of armor.

Eddie RedmayneDoing the lean! And this time Eddie Redmayne’s choice of suit is a Prada double breasted affair; another super charming approach and style win.
