Best of the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards Red Carpet

2 Jun

It is only Tuesday and this has already been a very busy week for the red carpet. Last night the Lincoln Center was awash with models, singers and actors wearing the creations of designers attending the annual CFDA Fashion Awards. As with the Met Gala this is a celebration of fashion and so the bar for creativity is set higher than your average red carpet; here are our favorite looks from the night.

Diane KrugerKicking things off with Diane Kruger shutting down the red carpet in a Prabal Gurung dress that resembles no other.

Janelle MonaeJanelle Monae showed some caped goodness switching out black and white H&M for white and gold Tadashi Shoji adding to her recent sartorial highs.

Gigi and ZacharyModel Gigi Hadid poses with a rather dapper Zachary Quinto and she has been dipped in the fashion equivalent of liquid gold in a stunning Michael Kors jumpsuit. There are nods to the decade which is currently dominating editorials and the runway and I am so all in on this 1970s revival.

Juliette LewisWearing this many white feathers is hard look to pull off and Juliette Lewis is winning me over with how much fun she is having in this Christian Siriano creation. The crop top factor helps it avoid looking bridal.

Karlie and DianeKarlie Kloss in plunging red polka dot DVF posing with Diane von Furstenberg in another strong pattern that is very on brand; both women look sensational.

Taraji P HensonTwo days in a row for Taraji P. Henson and off the back from winning Best Actress in a Drama at the Critics’ Choice Awards. This super sexy maroon Vera Wang Collection frock packs a huge ‘wow’ punch and shades of red are dominating TV Ate My Wardrobe’s picks from this event.

January JonesI’m on the fence about the overall look of January Jones in J. Mendel, which I think is down to the shape of the pants and my general complicated feelings about jumpsuits (which are well documented on this site). But she looks great and now I’m going to go cry some more about how we left Betty (never getting over it).

Joshua JacksonOh, hello.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

24 Apr

Plenty of style highs from the red carpet this week as the post-award season dry patch comes to an end with a variety of events. Plus a magazine cover which caused me to stop and stare.

Laverne Cox TribecaLaverne Cox does simple chic in red Zac Posen at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Grandma (Cox went for a vamp look earlier in the day).

Alison BrieThe Tribeca Film Festival is the place for cute looks as Alison Brie demonstrates at the premiere of Sleeping with Other People in Valentino.

Aya CashI really need You’re the Worst back in my life as I’m missing those glorious assholes and also this Alice + Olivia embellished dress Aya Cash is wearing at a FX bowling event this week.

Kiernan ShipkaThis is adorable and yes there was a huge cheer at every moment of snark, side eye and general over it vibe from Sally Draper on Mad Men this week. At the ‘harper’ by Harper’s Bazaar launch party Kiernan Shipka flexed her sartorial skills in a collared Valentino (who are killing it in the cute short dress department) frock.

tkIn awe of The Wall Street Journal Magazine Carey Mulligan cover and 70s inspired editorial (and of Carey in general) as this captures everything that makes this my favorite decade for style. Her Vogue cover is fine, but this is exceptional. The jacket is Valentino and they get the “Out of the Box” crown this week with three entries on the list.

Zendaya ColemanMichael Kors is perfect for spring as Zendaya Coleman demonstrates outside Good Morning America this week and she looks effortlessly cool in this matching wrap shirt and skirt.

Julianna MarguliesMore Michael Kors and Julianna Margulies at the Time 100 Gala; as a fan of pretty much all things tuxedo influenced this was always going to be an instant hit.

Lake BellBookending with a Tribeca Film Festival event and Lake Bell at the Chanel Artist Dinner looking super serious mixing Rag & Bone with Stella McCartney. Let’s just say I am getting a whole lot of coat related feelings.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

20 Feb

A big pre-Oscar weekend style edition of “Out of the Box” with NYFW runway watching style, Costume Designers Guild Awards, Vanity Fair celebrating Young Hollywood and the Essence Black Women in Hollywood event.

Natasha Lyonne and Nicki MinajNicki Minaj and Natasha Lyonne at the Alexander Wang runway show this week pulling their best front row DGAF faces.

Allison WilliamsAllison Williams’ style leans towards the classic and she looks at home in matching Spring 2015 Michael Kors floral crop top and skirt at the Michael Kors runway show. With the current New York weather I suddenly turn into my mother and get concerned about how cold she must be,

Christina HendricksA super sophisticated look for Christina Hendricks at Zac Posen in Zac Posen. That is an excellent shade of red lipstick and I’m already getting weepy about the end of Mad Men whenever I see one of the cast members.

Alison WrightDitching the 80s frumpy sweaters for something with an air of relaxed cool at the Tracy Reese show is Alison Wright from The Americans and I am particularly eyeing up her necklace. Wright is also demonstrating how you can do cold weather legs and still look fashion ready.

Kiernan ShipkaMoving on to the Costume Designers Guild Award and Kiernan Shipka is a vision in Oscar de la Renta. This lady is incredible. Also *sob* (see earlier Christina Hendricks remark).

Nicole BeharieOf course we know that actresses are not going to mirror the style of the characters they play (see Alison Wright from The Americans), however as I am so used to seeing Nicole Beharie in a range of leather jackets, jeans and boots on Sleepy Hollow this color/pattern Luis Antonio explosion at the Vanity Fair Young Hollywood event is a fun change-up.

Uzo AdubaThe OITNB ladies have been doing the award and party circuit (deservedly so) and I might have the opposite problem when Netflix gifts us with the next season readjusting to seeing them in their prison beige. Uzo Aduba is a picture of sophistication at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon in this pretty floral L.K. Bennett dress and orange Stuart Weitzman heels.

Laverne CoxPleats are a clothing weakness for me and Laverne Cox does understated elegance which is perfect for this daytime Essence event wearing a Whistles skirt with a Theory top.
