Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

5 Aug

If there was a “Behind the Insta-Scenes” theme this week it would probably be #SquadGoals. A lot of shows are now back to work and getting their promo on as fall season looms, but there are also plenty of vacation shots occurring.

Brie Larson joined Instagram last week and this human pyramid of lady greatness is one of her first photo offerings. The only time I’ve been involved in one of these was at Reading Festival about 10 years ago and surprisingly no one was hurt (I am ultimate clumsy). I did see a far messier one at the wedding I attended this weekend, which is what happens at 1 am. Larson also shared this excellent shot from the Jenny Lewis “One of the Guys” video.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is guest starring on the forthcoming season premiere of The Mindy Project as (spoiler alert) Mindy’s husband. Say what?! Well, Mindy is very not pregnant in this party shot (super hot dress BTW) and Sliding Doors is the inspiration for this alt-reality setting. If you read our Felicity discussion posts you will know I love a ‘road not traveled’ exploration. Although interestingly enough I have never seen Sliding Doors the whole way through.

Because Mindy Lahiri is most definitely pregnant and wearing a very fetching Salvador Perez orange ensemble while shooting a subway scene. This is only adding to my current craving for orange clothes. Kaling is really great at showing sneak peeks of the amazing costuming and hopefully the premiere date will be announced soon.

This image of Taraji P. Henson is everything and needs to be printed on t-shirts/mugs/fridge magnets.

Double Cookie for your pleasure this week and Empire is another highly anticipated returning show.

Alan Cumming is back in full Eli Gold garb and hopefully this caption means big things will be happening for this character in season 7.

The first full length You’re the Worst promo was released this week just as shooting the second season comes to a close. I heart this cast so hard.

Break out the dance party as Playing House is back. Here is a stunning photo of Lennon Parham laughing it up backstage at Late Night with Seth Meyers.

It is Jon Stewart’s last week on The Daily Show and I’m feeling pretty emotional about it to be honest. Going to watch it being filmed back in 2010 was an experience I never imagined I would have and it was even more wonderful than expected. Here is the always incredible Jessica Williams with her boss in the background. Enjoy this truly excellent segment from last night’s episode.

There are going to be plenty of these kinds of shots this week (I expect Instagram to be awash with Daily Show photos tomorrow) and Amy Schumer is doing the waiting in the wings thing before she goes on. Schumer also explained just how the JLaw boat hangout went down.

Selfie love from the Orange is the New Black ladies all in costume.

And another OITNB delight to round off this week’s “Behind the Insta-Scenes.”

If you are suffering from Mindy Project withdrawal then the second season of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Hit Record on TV might be just what you need as Mindy Kaling dreamed up a short for the series and got the dancing Chris Messina to show off some of his skills in this department. Here are JGL and Messina performing in front of a green screen and the Hit Record site has a variety of making of videos to watch before the premiere.

Ideal summer vibes outfit and food choice from Jenny Slate.

I miss Jane the Virgin. Luckily most of the cast are big Instagram users and there’s a lot of pre-Emmy chat surrounding this show.

TV’s Olivia Benson meets Taylor’s Swift’s Olivia Benson and all seems to have gone down rather well. No need to for any law or order (yes I will see myself out)

Now this is how you celebrate LA Pride and get the word out about your little dance movie sequel.

Now that season 3 of Orange is the New Black is available to watch the number of set photos has dramatically increased including this beauty.

This drink looks really good and I love when TV friendships spawn into IRL forever BFFs (that’s a whole lot of caps).

I think they did a pretty good job with the posing switcheroo.

Just remember to lock it up. Don’t want Hannah to lose another bike (after that episode last season I became extra paranoid every time I locked my bike up).

Best of the 2014 Oscar Red Carpet

3 Mar

So after nearly 7 hours of red carpet and the actual award show combined (yikes, that is a VERY long time and no wonder my snacks ran out) we have chosen our favorite red carpet looks. While the Film Independent Spirit Awards were awash with color and pattern, the Oscars were more on the muted side with dark gowns and a whole lot of nude metallics on display. Here are our highlights of the red carpet and a couple of bonus shots from the show.

Lupita Nyong'o red carpetStarting with Lupita Nyong’o as she has been the star of this award season and this gorgeous pale blue Prada gown is the perfect dress for the Oscar winner. Nyong’o’s speech was touching and from what I could tell everyone on my Twitter feed had a very blurry screen during this moment. The one divisive aspect was the headband and for the record I am pro this accessory.

Lupita Nyong'o OscarsHere’s an extra shot as it looks stunning in movement and Nyong’o helped design this gown; I would totally want something I could swish like this if given the opportunity.

Kate HudsonNow this is how you do old Hollywood glamour and Kate Hudson’s Atelier Versace gown is oozing with style. The semi-cape is giving me so much life (and it’s a shame she ditched it when she presented) as are the slightly boxy shoulders. The combination of the delicate beading and deep plunge give it that extra oomph; I can totally understand why Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were beaming when she stepped out on stage.

Amy AdamsI saw some refer to this as boring, but I really like that Amy Adams chosen something as simple and sophisticated as this navy Gucci Première frock. It’s tuxedo inspired and the lapels are such a great detail; it’s the opposite of the plunging American Hustle type gowns we saw earlier in this awards cycle and it’s wonderful.

Karen OO, Karen O you look incredible in black Camilla Stærk. Another plunging neckline and the broach really set it off, plus this is also a little capey so you know I love it. The gold and black geometric clutch adds the right amount of glitz to this ensemble.

Karen O performanceBonus Karen O! Performing “The Moon Song” with Ezra Koenig with heels placed to the side, they made this song feel really intimate in a venue that large. The red gown is flowy and spectacular and I love that Koenig’s socks match Karen O’s dress. Excuse me while I go listen to this song on repeat.

Olivia Wilde and Jason SudekisBold statement ahoy – sorry Brad and Angelina (because I’m sure they will be reading), but here is my best dressed couple of the evening. Wilde is wearing a black Valentino column dress with a mock turtleneck and the white open back gives it that something extra. It’s all about monochrome with her accessories and she looks incredible. By accessories I mean her clutch and jewelry, not her baby bump as E! decided this was part of the accessory discussion. Jason Sudeikis is snazzy in Prada and I’m totally digging the beard.

Emma WatsonEmma Watson is shimmering in metallic Vera Wang, going for a pewter hue, rather than all the many nude sparkly affairs that were on trend last night (but none that I really liked). The slight mermaid kick of the skirt and the lighter top turn what could have been a nothing dress into something special. As does the dramatic dark lipstick which I’m coveting quite hard.

Emma Watson and JGL

And because I’m sure this pairing sparked new real life shippers here is Emma Watson presenting with the always dapper Joseph Gordon-Levitt. You’re welcome.
