Behind the Insta-Scenes: Photos from the Set

19 Aug

The steady stream of shows returning to set for the fall season continues and we’ve got a mix of weekly favorites such as The Mindy Project and Orange is the New Black with some new faces. Plus magazine cover flashbacks, editorial dance parties and some style highs on this week’s “Behind the Insta-Scenes.”

Jane the Virgin is back for season 2 in October (Monday 12) and the cast are looking all kinds of adorable as they sit down and fist bump over their first table read of the new TV year. And I just remembered Britney Spears is going to be on the show, which might send me down another happy Britney gif hole. I am more than fine with this.

Cute summer dress goals with a twist of 1960s inspiration courtesy of Mae Whitman – who killed it on the Teen Choice Awards red carpet – in Rachel Antonoff when she appeared on The Tonight Show. Whitman got to squish up with Kevin Spacey and Keegan Michael Key and various others in a phone booth and this dress held up well.

Tattoo is back! Season 4 OFFICIALLY begins now

Morgan’s tattoo is making an appearance on season 4 of The Mindy Project but it’s Mindy’s Bedhead flamingo pjs that have caught my eye. Adding to the ever growing Mindy covet list.

It’s not just the ladies who are awash with color and print on The Mindy Project as Garret Dilahunt gives a sneak peek at his bold costuming. Dilahunt will be playing Mindy’s maternity leave cover and he thinks she is a ‘tacky idiot.’

I have definitely got some accidental #NOTASNAP videos on my phone from various nights out where stumbly fingers change the setting, but this one by Chelsea Peretti seems all purpose.

Also from the Brooklyn Nine-Nine set and could this be the return of the wolfie sweater? Or maybe just an old picture (her hair looks different so I’m leaning towards it making a comeback). I am so excited for the return of one of TV Ate My Wardrobe’s sweater and all round costume queens.

Your weekly dose of Orange is the New Black set life with Samira Wiley posting a photo on Instagram while she is looking on Instagram.

On set but not in costume with Jackie Cruz showing her support for the ‘free the nipple’ campaign in a cute crop top, jorts and Cons combo.

The cast of Empire are featured in the iconic Vogue September issue; all super glammed up and with plenty of dancing on set.

So here for old magazine covers, particularly ones which don’t really make a whole lot of sense. Like why did they think the licking of the face thing was a good direction to go in? It is definitely something different that’s for sure and I feel a lot better about this than the other face licking which has appeared on TV recently (I’m looking at you Scandal).

This has made me equal parts happy and sad; I’m still not over you, Carrie Diaries.

It’s a party over at Sleepy Hollow for Jenny Mills, the returning Joe Corbin and a mystery man played by Anthony K. Hyatt.

I didn’t see the first season of Secrets and Lies – did Ryan Phillippe do it? – but Juliette Lewis and her sharp dressing new cast mates are making me very intrigued for season 2.

Happy Wednesday!

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

17 Jul

A lot of great outfits have graced these pages this week thanks to Comic-Con, but don’t worry we’ve got plenty more thanks to premieres, other red carpet events and the ESPYs. Plus new entries into the all important #ladysuitwatch2015.

Brie LarsonA fun Michael Kors dress for Brie Larson at the Trainwreck¬†premiere and the color block pleated bottom turns what could’ve been pretty dull into something wonderful.

Amy Schumer and Leslie MannLeslie Mann’s floral Dolce & Gabbana number is a delight and Amy Schumer’s super sexy and side boob showing Dion Lee number is perfect for this event. Even if I can’t stop thinking about how hot leather must be in the summer. Excellent strappy black heels from both ladies.

Zosia MametZosia Mamet gets a lot of flak for her red carpet attire, but there are some really good moments including this navy Jill Stuart keyhole frock and I am so in love with her green pumps.

Tilda SwintonThis is pretty tame for Tilda Swinton and while I saw some talk of their disappointment at this outfit, I’m gonna give some prayer hands emojis for this tailored¬†Haider Ackermann look.

Rachel McAdams and Jake GyllenhaalTim Riggins is Rachel McAdams’ rumored beau, but she attended the ESPYs with¬†Southpaw¬†co-star and beard grower extraordinaire Jake Gyllenhaal. McAdams is showing off her new shorter ‘do (I’m very into her choppy¬†True Detective¬†bob right now) and enters the #ladysuitwatch2015 excellence list in this super sexy red¬†Cristiano Burani ensemble.

Caitlyn JennerWearing custom Versace, Caitlyn Jenner delivers an incredibly moving speech at the ESPYS and this gown is simple chic at its best.

AnnaSophia RobbMore cute summer prints on display at the New York premiere of Irrational Man¬†and AnnaSophia Robbs’¬†Giamba dress and sandals is an ideal look for this warm time of year. By the way I still miss¬†The Carrie Diaries.

Laverne Cox and Parker PoseyBest and maybe most random “Out of the Box” pairing this week goes to Parker Posey in all her turban and glitzy glory with Laverne Cox in an Opening Ceremony mini dress and amazing yellow Kenzo bag at the¬†Irrational Man¬†premiere.

Kiernan Shipka and Chirstina HendricksThey didn’t get to spend very much time together on screen, but I am so here for this¬†Mad Men¬†duo on the red carpet and two very different takes on floral. Christina Hendricks is wearing a dreamy¬†BCBG Max Azria maxi dress for hosting duties at¬†the Los Angeles Confidential ‘Women of Influence’ Celebration and Kiernan Shipka opts for a very cute¬†Giamba frock to support her former co-star; Giamba is this week’s go to brand for young starlets.

New York Fashion Week: Best of the Runway Watching Looks Part 1

8 Sep

The new TV season is about to start and a good way to get word out about these shows is to have the stars attend New York Fashion week or as with the women from Orange is the New Black they are still enjoying their well deserved victory lap. Whatever the reason there are plenty of famous attendants showing off their own style (good or bad) while also taking in what they will be wearing in the future.

Rather than waiting until the end of the week with “Out of the Box” here are some of the best looks from the first half of NYFW.

SJPSarah Jessica Parker goes with NYFW like Carrie Bradshaw does with Manolo Blahniks and SJP wore this is beautiful Preen dress to the Lexus Design Disrupted event. The metallic pumps from her own SJP collection work like a charm against the bold color of this frock.

Allison Williams DVFAt the Diane von Furstenberg show Allison Williams was lucky enough to wear something from the Spring 2015 RTW collection; this white dress with a gingham detail is of the usual Allison Williams girly styling without being too on the nose a la her Emmys dress. Bonus lip color points.

Uzo Aduba Christian SirianoUzo Aduba continues her style streak moving away from 70s secretary bowed chic (which I love) to this shimmery art deco looking delight at the Christian Siriano show.

Jackie Cruz, Selenis Leyva, amanda WarrenAduba’s¬†OITNB¬†co-stars Selenis Leyva, Jackie Cruz, Kimiko Glenn along with¬†The Leftovers’¬†Amanda Warren showed off a range of bold styles at Nicole Miller. Kimiko Glenn kept things simple chic in a grey pencil skirt and crop sweater, while Cruz and Leyva went for the bold patterned look and Warren had a chest of feathers.

Margarita LevievaAt the same event former Revenge star Margarita Levieva wore some really meh nude pumps, but made up for it in a vermillion color dress with cut out side panels.

Katie CassidyThe Nicole Miller show was the place to be and Katie Cassidy demonstrates how to do runway watching in a super casual comfy manner (ok those shoes probably hurt) while still looking chic.

AnnaSophia RobbHere’s a guide to wearing your jacket on your shoulders as told in two parts at the Rebecca Minkoff runway show. First up AnnaSophia Robb and I’m still not over the¬†Carrie Diaries¬†cancellation even if Austin Butler and his hair will be making their way to¬†Arrow.¬†I am beyond in love with this geometric multicolored pleated skirt.

Jamie ChungJamie Chung could be a Pink Lady with this jacket slung over her shoulders, but it’s her print dress and blue bag that I’m coveting while ignoring whatever clunky strappy shoes she is wearing.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

14 Feb

As promised it’s a New York Fashion Week special with a look at some of the famous faces who attended the runway shows this week and for all our other NYFW coverage head here.

Solange at MillyWe tend to only focus on faces from TV with this feature, however it would be remiss of me if I didn’t include Solange at the Milly by Michelle Smith runway show as this is hands down my favorite outfit from the front row this week. Combining bubblegum pink with two such bold colors could have been a step too far and yet Solange pulls it off and looks incredible. This coat is my everything and will help combat the current chilly New York climate.

Tina Fey spotted smiling while leaving the Lincoln Center during NYFW in New York CitySpeaking of weather preparedness here is Tina Fey leaving the Carolina Herrera show on Monday switching out strappy heels for Hunter wellies and they still look pretty fantastic with this outfit. I’m on the fence with the Tootsie like glasses, but everything else is fantastic.

Diane Kruger Hugo BossOut of the Box regular Diane Kruger’s outfit manages to be weather appropriate and super stylish as she heads to the Hugo Boss show. There’s no cute, but freezing strappy shoe BS here and it’s no surprise that I am very much in love with the sweater she is wearing.

Zosia Mamet Rebecca MinkoffThe coat over the shoulders thing is very fashion week and Girls’¬†Zosia Mamet also demonstrates this at Rebecca Minkoff in stunning orange. Coats and sweaters are my jam.

Taylor Schilling and Caitlin FitzgeraldLooking very different from their Masters of Sex¬†and¬†Orange is the New Black¬†characters is Caitlin Fitzgerald and¬†Taylor Schilling hangout together at the Thakoon show. I’m normally not all that into jumpsuits, but pairing it with these booties has got me on board the whole jumpsuit of it all and Fitzgerald is giving off an effortlessly chic vibe. I’m pro tights and I love the color combination of Schilling’s bold print dress with the rainbow infused sparkly coat. So much shimmer.

Rose ByrnePolka dots! Rose Byrne wearing a dress at Michael Kors that I would very much like in my closet and it’s a classic look. I’m going to ignore the clumpy heels as this is a perfect outfit without them.

AnnaSophia RobbMore polka dots! And this time it’s shoes with AnnaSophia Robb wearing the cutest heels with a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress at the DVF show (of course). Robb is always a delight at both NYFW and on the red carpet; while we don’t know if she will return as 1980s Carrie Bradshaw, in the present day she is just as fashion forward.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

5 Jul

The weather is heating up and so this edition of “Look of the Week” is a special summer dress and thanks to the all¬†Mad Men¬†affair¬†last week this will feature some red carpet appearances from the past two weeks. This is a quieter period for TV watching (though some shows like¬†Dexter¬†and¬†Ray Donovan premiered on Sunday) and so this is the first time there are no entries from shows, just red carpet and public appearances.

Winner: Allison Williams at the Nantucket Film Festival

Allison-Williams

This red and pink patterned printed dress that Girls¬†star¬†Allison Williams wore to the Nantucket Film Festival would work for either daytime or evening affairs and could easily be dressed up or down. Here at TV Ate My Wardrobe we love patterns and this dress mixes four different types that flatter rather than overwhelm. I’m not a huge fan of nude pumps, but I can understand why Williams has chosen a simple pair of shows with a dress like this. Accessorizing with thin gold bangles is also a smart choice and adds detail without cluttering this look.

Runner Up: Allison Janney at The Way, Way Back Premiere

Allison Janney

There are several reasons why I’m looking forward to seeing¬†The Way, Way Back¬†and one of them is Allison Janney who is excellent in everything she does (ok I’m ignoring THAT episode of Lost, but hey that mess wasn’t her fault). Janney has been killing it on the red carpet while promoting this film and this floral dress is super cute; the belt detail and yellow clutch are perfect. As with Allison Williams’ I’m not a big fan of the nude shoes, but they go fine with a dress that is this embellished.

Runner Up: Michelle Dockery at Wimbledon

Michelle Docekry Wimbledon

Michelle Dockery is at Wimbledon; a tournament which is well known for rain so this is summery while also looking prepared for the inevitable downpour. The pale pink shirtdress and navy coat complement each other and the brown flats make this daytime appropriate. As with all of the outfits that are featured this week, it’s a look that could be dressed up or down. The¬†Downton Abbey¬†star gets bonus points for the yellow bag that we can see the strap of, simply because yellow bags are a weakness of mine (especially in the summertime). This is a simple and elegant outfit that is well suited for the venue.

Runner Up: AnnaSophia Robb at The Way, Way Back Premiere

AnnaSophia Robb Way Way Back

The cast of¬†The Way, Way Back¬†is rocking flower power and AnnaSophia Robb’s Red by Valentino has a twist as the floral print is layered underneath black polka dots.¬†Robb is living up to her¬†Carrie Diaries¬†role and is often one of the best dressed on the red carpet and the only thing that doesn’t quite work with this look is the clunky looking black strappy heels. They’re not terrible, they’re just terrible for this dress and something less severe would make this the perfect look.
