Leftovers Season 2 Artwork and New Trailer: Begin Again

10 Sep

Moving to a town which did not lose any of its inhabitants on October 14 seems like a great way to start again for Kevin Garvey on The Leftovers with his new makeshift family in tow and yet it doesn’t take long for the undercurrent of fear to take hold. As with the first trailer everything starts off well and then it all goes to hell as this new location holds as many secrets as Mapletown. Coincidence or conspiracy that all goes to shit just as they arrive bringing all their baggage (literal and figurative) with them?

Expanding on who the new characters are with Regina King providing the voiceover as Erika explains how special Jarden, Texas is – “The Jarden of Eden” – and we see how many people are flocking to this town. One thing remains the same is how no one really wants Matt to talk about what happened and he is of course going to do it regardless; suffering the consequences of his refusal to be quiet. The Guilty Remnant haven’t been consumed by the fire at the end of last season and Patty despite being dead is here to torture Kevin some more. Some ghosts are just assholes.

The Leftovers Season 2The Nora/Kevin relationship takes center stage both in the new trailer and artwork with Nora appearing as this force of light and good while Kevin is tied down. Definitely picturing Patty holding on to the rope.

This relationship offered a semblance of hope for the characters and the audience; their losses were of very different kinds but their shared fuckedupness made them an ideal couple with a hint of trouble ahead. Plus Carrie Coon and Justin Theroux have great chemistry and it will be interesting to see how their relationship grows and evolves in this new location. Even if I am full on expecting Kevin to fuck it all up somehow and the trailer hints there will plenty of obstacles for them to navigate their way through. I am fully expecting to get some use out of this other Carrie Coon role gif:

For all its season 1 messiness it was still one of my favorite shows of 2014 and it is definitely on the most anticipated list for fall.

Homeland Season 5 Trailer: You Can Take the Girl Out of the CIA…

27 Aug

Homeland ventures to Europe for season 5 as Germany takes center stage with Carrie getting pulled back into her old life. A breach, paranoia, explosions and a conflicted Carrie Mathison are vital Homeland ingredients and last season went a long way in restoring my faith in the show. It was still messy in places, but Brody’s death breathed new life into the show and its lead character.

There’s a lot to take in with plenty of new characters who might prompt “Hey! It’s that guy/lady!” including Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings), Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others) and Alexander Fehling (Inglorious Basterds).

It also looks like Carrie is back to making excellent art collages or rather figuring out evidence. This isn’t quite the color wall delight, but it’s almost that good.   Plus there is a blink and you’ll miss it maybe hooking up moment between a very divisive pairing. I am firmly in the shipping camp and have been pretty much since his introduction; it isn’t as out of the blue as some suggested last year.

Watch the trailer below and Homeland returns Sunday, October 4.

The Leftovers Season 2 Promo: No Miracle in Miracle

6 Aug

Throwing an extra component into the mystery and a change of location could be what The Leftovers needs as the town of Mapleton was starting to feel claustrophobic as the weight of the missing threatened to suffocate those left behind. Season 2 is doing just this and taking what looks like most of the Garvey clan, Nora, her brother Matt and his wife Mary to a town in Texas where none of the population disappeared on October 14. A town that happens to be called Miracle where all is not as it seems (dun dun dun).

This promo introduces us to Kevin and Nora’s – they are still together much to my delight – friendly new neighbors played by Regina King and Kevin Carroll with an invitation to a birthday dinner . Starting fresh doesn’t mean the slate is wiped clean as things go from idyllic porch hugs to disappearances, fights and people who are dead appearing in the background. But it will be nice to see Kevin and Nora happy for a few moments before it all goes to hell again and I’m really excited about this second season. Very much feeling Nora’s new summery look (will write more on this) with a whole lot of red and white attire; I can’t wait to have Carrie Coon back acting the shit out of everything on TV once again.

You’re the Worst Season 2 Trailer – How to Avoid Becoming “Disgusting Normals”

4 Aug

You’re the Worst returns next month (September 9) and the first full length trailer delivers a whole array of Jimmy and Gretchen avoiding their feelings with other distractions; including a whole lot of getting wasted and some leather underwear. Anything to prevent them from becoming “disgusting normals.”

I don’t think there are enough words to explain just how excited I am to spend time with these wonderful assholes with all of their emotional baggage, especially now that Lindsay is most likely single and Gretchen is living with Jimmy. Gretchen’s apartment prior to the fire was what you might call organized chaos or a trash heap of appliances so factoring this into the new cohabitating setup should be rather fun.

Such as Gretchen’s very different sense of home decorating style. That Kat is pretty Kool.

IMG_1722And trying to keep the heat alive with FaceTime strip club adventures. Excuse me while I covet Gretchen’s top button done up white shirt look.

IMG_1723And the aforementioned underwear and an approach to undergarments that goes beyond Gretchen’s typically effortless sexy style.

IMG_1729And getting fucked up in new and impressively outlandish ways that go way beyond naked driveway passing out.

IMG_1730Lindsay has found a way to monetize dating life and continues to wear the very best in floral summer dress attire. Meanwhile Gretchen’s sunglasses and leather jacket game are still very much on point.

IMG_1727After Lindsay’s heartbreaking rendition of “This Woman’s Work” Edgar’s intrigue levels went up to hair smelling levels and something is definitely occurring here. This something could just be Lindsay’s attempts at making Paul jealous. Don’t break Edgar’s heart, please.

Empire Season 2 Teaser: Free the Lyons

23 Jul

The power dynamics and alliances are forever shifting on Empire; the number of schemes that went down during its first year might even make Blair Waldorf stop for a second. The new season 2 teaser suggests it will be just as intense when the show returns Wednesday, September 23 as the looks between characters intensify. Defiant poses and walking with purpose are also on the cards with Cookie’s attire hitting all new highs.

Empire Season 2Cookie is not the one who is currently incarcerated (aside from whatever is going on in the scene above) and the teaser shows a #FreeLucious concert with Jamal taking center stage in this brief glimpse – will Hakeem appear on stage to support his father?

One thing Hakeem has in the opening strut is an IO Hawk – kind of like a hands free Segway – and it is such a random/perfect detail to show their indulgent lifestyle. I saw someone using one of these a couple of weeks ago and I had so many questions such as a general ‘Why?’ And how do you make it stop?

Anyway here is Terrence Howard trying one out onset courtesy of Kaitlin Doubleday’s Instagram:

I would definitely fall off.

And here is your first look at Empire season 2.

This is a big preview time of year with FargoThe AffairWet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and the HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero all featuring on TV Ate My Wardrobe recently.

Fargo Season 2 Trailer: “This Thing’s Only Getting Bigger”

22 Jul

The year is 1979, the place is Luverne, Minnesota and mustacheless Nick Offerman warns that things are about to spiral for everyone featuring in the Fargo season 2 preview. The new trailer shows off some of the major players and there are plenty of familiar faces; so while I am sad there will be no Allison Tolman, there’s a whole lot of Jesse Plemons to enjoy and it looks like he will be taking the role of accidental and hapless criminal.

Let’s take a moment to take delve into the costuming and the 1970s is a style decade favorite of mine so when I heard this season would be set in 1979 I was thrilled; this trailer does not disappoint and had me clapping with glee throughout at the excellent array of knitwear, synthetic fur lined coats and garish designs. Oh hey Cristin Milioti!

IMG_1434 (1)The real costuming star is Kirsten Dunst and I have a deep affinity with Dunst thanks to a teen repeat watching diet of The Virgin SuicidesBring it On and Drop Dead Gorgeous. I am pleased to see her return to TV after a long time away (she previously had an arc on ER as a homeless teen Doug Ross tried to help as well as various other early roles).

More outwear and layered excellence; even though it is really warm right now this has me yearning for knee high brown boots and a not so incognito attempt at incognito attire.

IMG_1439And a closer look at the beret, sunglasses and this big bow floral number.

IMG_1441Plus stripy ribbed sweaters!

IMG_1436Also Landry maybe kills another guy and Jesse Plemons looks even more like Matt Damon now.

IMG_1435And just how did this shoe get up there?

IMG_1442Fargo returns in October and I am so ready. Watch the trailer below and expect plenty more costume chat when it is back.

New Season 2 Key Art and Promos for The Affair Offer up New Persepctives

13 Jul

A couple of weeks ago Showtime released a first look at the new season of The Affair which teased plenty of angst, smooches and a super beardy Joshua Jackson. In that post we discussed the pre-season Emmy interview with Maura Tierney where she mentioned that the number of perspectives would be shifting from the original two with Noah and Alison and expanding to four; adding Cole and Helen to the this narrative device.

At the time I was thrilled by this news and I still am because my main issue with The Affair’s first season was that I didn’t find Noah and Alison’s relationship all that compelling. And it didn’t help when the season finale dipped into the absurd with explosive confrontations and Noah’s arrest.

The new season 2 key art pulls away from the isolated Noah/Alison pairing used for season 1 and physically inserts Cole and Helen into the image as they stare out at us while their exes remain oblivious. The tagline also suggests that just because there are more viewpoints things will not become any clearer. Oh and did I mention Joshua Jackson’s beard? Okay, I did.

Along with the new artwork Showtime has released a couple of new preview videos which hint at a whole host of conflicts born from this affair; families torn apart and the murder Noah has been accused of committing. From these videos alone I’m feeling a lot more hopeful as to the direction season 2 is going in and I’m particularly excited about the prospect of a lot more Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson.

Going behind the scenes on the photo shoot with the four core cast and Ruth Wilson asks “Are we doing Friends or are we doing angry friends?” and now I really want to see them sipping milkshakes together or hanging out by a fountain. Plus there are the usual talking heads reminding us where we left off and what is to come.

Basically I am anticipating this new season way more than I thought I would be after I watched the season 1 finale.

First Look at Oscar Isaac, Winona Ryder and Catherine Keener in Show Me a Hero

13 Jul

Between all the Comic-Con Star Wars and X-Men: Apocalypse coverage, today has involved a lot of Oscar Isaac related discussions and gifs on Tumblr. Now HBO has released the first trailer for the new David Simon miniseries Show Me a Hero and we might as well call this Oscar Isaac Day. This is an excellent way to start the week. *insert dancing gif here*

In the six-part miniseries Isaac’s plays real-life Yonkers, New York mayor Nick Wasicsko who was elected in 1987 and immediately faced a huge social issue after a federal court ordered low-income housing to be built in the wealthy part of town. This was met with much opposition and Isaac’s Wasicsko is the man caught in the middle.

Check out the trailer below including Isaac’s ‘tache, Winona Ryder asking “what you going to do?” and Catherine Keener’s rather large spectacles. Catch parts one and two on Sunday, August 16.

Watch the ‘Red Dragon’ Hannibal Preview from Comic-Con and the Hannibal Panel (Update)

13 Jul

The future of Hannibal still hangs in the balance (sadly both Amazon and Netflix have passed) and at the Hannibal Pannibal on Saturday at Comic-Con Bryan Fuller said they are still exploring options including the possibility of a feature.

There is still plenty of Hannibal left to enjoy and it looks like this week’s episode will be wrapping up the Hannibal on the run storyline. A time jump of three years will take us into the Red Dragon arc and a five minute preview reveals a whole lot more of Richard Armitage as Francis Dolarhyde (the blurring button is getting a workout this season). Armitage was introduced to the world of flower crowns and Fannibals at the panel this weekend.

Hannibal PannibalArmitage appears far less terrifying here than he does as Dolarhyde and it really looks like he has captured the terrifying physicality of this character that in the past has been played by Ralph Fiennes and Tom Noonan. There are two sides to Dolarhyde and if this preview is anything to go by Armitage nails both.

If you are unfamiliar with the Red Dragon arc and don’t want to know what fate awaits Hannibal then maybe wait to watch this clip until after this Thursday’s episode, but I definitely clapped my hands with glee at new haircuts, visual flourishes, red suits (because of course) and different living arrangements. This is the one Thomas Harris book I have read and I’m looking forward to seeing how Bryan Fuller is going to put his spin on the material (especially when he has used some of it for the Freddie fakeout last season).

Updated!

Watch the super fun panel below includinb Bryan Fuller revealing how Comic-Con played a big part in the “spitters are quitters” line from a couple of weeks ago, how short shorts are coming and Hugh Dancy reminding Fuller of which Red Dragon lines they have already used. Also Fannibals have such good costumes and questions.

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp New Poster and Trailer

2 Jul

Quick confession – I have not seen Wet Hot American Summer (I know) and I’ve now got just under a month to rectify this before the prequel series lands on Netflix. It doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense that it passed me by for a number of reasons including the Bradley Cooper phase I went through as a result of marathoning Alias – I even own Kitchen Confidential. The rest of the cast is made up of people to draw hearts around (Garofalo! Rudd! Poehler! Banks!) and really there is no excuse for this personal oversight.

Netflix has released not only a full length star studded trailer but also a fantastic and also star studded poster riffing on the original artwork.

Wet Hot American SummerWatch the trailer below and just let it been known I am now strongly coveting denim high waisted flares thanks to Elizabeth Banks.

IMG_1105Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp will be available on Netflix Friday, July 31 and before then watch the original 2001 movie, also on Netflix. I know I will be.
