Best of the 2015 BAFTA Red Carpet

9 Feb

Award season stretches for months and we’ve covered a lot of red carpet events here at TV Ate My Wardrobe; with the Oscars so near it means certain dresses are being saved for the last and biggest hurrah so the BAFTAs tends to suffer. This is not to say the red carpet is awash with blah as there are plenty of style highs from last night’s awards, but you can tell some are saving the wow entrance for two weeks time.

Reese Witherspoon BAFTAReese Witherspoon switches things up from cute and sparkly at the pre-party to this plunging purple sexy Stella McCartney gown.

Monica Bellucci and Lea SeydouxWe’re going to see a lot more of Monica Bellucci and Léa Seydoux on the red carpet when Spectre comes out at the end of the year and if it is anything like this then we are in for a treat.

Amy AdamsWhile I might be slightly distracted by the mustard coat in the background, Amy Adams is striking in custom white Lanvin. What really makes this look is the beaded detail and tassel belt (which I would not be able to stop twirling).

Julianne MooreI’ve been going back on forth on Julianne Moore’s Tom Ford gown as I love the color and velvet, but my aversion to chokers thanks to 90s flashback horrors is making the collar detail not so appealing. But Moore does look fantastic particularly while clutching her BAFTA so I couldn’t leave her off this list.

Keira KnightleyI love a tea length frock and Keira Knightley’s floral Giambattista Valli is delightful.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw BAFTAAnother sumptuous pastel gown for Gugu Mbatha-Raw this time in Prada and despite the Hathaway boob dart issue this is a beautiful look.

Rosamund PikeRosamund Pike’s award season style has been a bit hit and miss and at the BAFTAs she plays it safe in black Roland Mouret; it’s nothing to go crazy for but she does look good.

Felicity Jones BAFTAA Christian Dior Couture double for Felicity Jones this weekend and while it doesn’t hit the heights of her Golden Globes Dior it captures Jones’ classic and romantic style.

Hayley AtwellThe sheer trend is one I am not too fond of, but when polka dots are featured it makes me more inclined to like it and as presenter attire this is ideal. Continuing to adore all things Hayley Atwell.

Eddie RedmayneEddie Redmayne continues his winning streak in another fantastic velvet suit. This time it is a midnight blue Armani and wife Hannah Bagshawe wears an incredible Valentino gown; only a slight hint of the lean.

James McAvoy and Anne Marie DuffWhile Anne-Marie Duff’s gown is a tad bridal (and I need some inspiration in this area so thank you) I just couldn’t resist this super adorable shot of Duff with husband James McAvoy.

Best of the 2015 SAG Awards – Color and Print

26 Jan

The SAG Awards is a slightly more relaxed affair; it is still fancy frock aplenty but you can tell that some are holding back for the Oscars. Well not everyone as the TV nominees are done until the Emmys and not every SAG nominee is going to the Oscars. There was plenty of color on the red carpet continuing the Golden Globes trend and here is Part 1 of TV Ate My Wardrobes favorite SAG looks.

Lupita SAGWhen Lupita Nyong’o arrived in this stunning Elie Saab gown she pretty much shut the whole thing down and this is by far the crowning moment of the red carpet. The color, the stripes, makeup and hair are all incredible; Lupita remains the style queen even when she isn’t nominated. I cannot wait for the Star Wars press tour at the end of this year.

Julianne MooreRed hair and emerald is always a winning combination and Julianne Moore has gone for another Givenchy Couture beauty with this beaded delight.

Kiera KnightleyDeep purple really suits Keira Knightley as does this somewhat boho Erdem dress.

Julianna MarguliesOpinion was split regarding Julianna Margulies’ cobalt-blue Giambattista Valli super draped skirt and I am very much on the love it side. It didn’t photograph well from certain angles, but I adore the color and how dramatic it looks.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin TherouxJennifer Aniston has relaxed a lot since she didn’t get an Oscar nomination – the hair is down, the cleave is on show – and this vintage John Galliano goes full plunge while avoiding her usual black gown favoring. Justin scrubs up rather well too.

Claire DanesHere’s another dress that had a mixed reception and it might be my well documented Claire Danes blindness as I think she is totally working this khaki green Marc Jacobs dress; barnacle side beading and all.

Rashida JonesThe blue piping/belting combined with the bold print make this a style win for Rashida Jones in Emanuel Ungaro.

Lorraine ToussaintPockets! And an amazing printed skirt from Lorraine Toussaint.

Maisie Williams and Sophie TurnerSpeaking of pockets; Maisie Williams is a lady after my own heart as she tweeted “DRESS POCKETS ARE IMPORTANT & DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE” (all caps are her own but I support the emphasis). This super cute red dress does have pockets and Williams’ on screen sibling Sophie Turner has a fantastic pair of heart heels to go with her chic black gown.

Danielle BrooksThis is beautiful from Danielle Brooks in a navy custom Christian Siriano working old Hollywood glamour with aplomb.

Melissa FumeroOff the shoulder blue frocks were on trend and here is another excellent take with Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Melissa Fumero in Maxime Simoens.

Lauren LapkusRounding off the blues with Orange is the New Black’s Lauren Lapkus. Also passing the now patented Maisie Williams pocket test.

OITNBAnd speaking of Orange is the New Black – how great is this shot of the cast on stage taking home Ensemble in a Comedy Series?!

Best of the Golden Globes 2015 Red Carpet: Sparkle Motion

12 Jan

Welcome to TV Ate My Wardrobe’s coverage of the 2015 Golden Globes red carpet and we’re going to be splitting this up into four posts covering all the major trends of the night. This was a really strong year for a variety of styles and not only that but the awards themselves were at times incredibly touching with many misty eye inducing speeches. Good work everyone.

First up the super sparkly gowns.

Diane KrugerKicking off with the best dressed couple of the night and Diane Kruger’s super shimmery Emilia Wickstead dress is eye catching and the same can be said for Joshua Jackson in a tux. Kruger also had the best reaction to The Affair winning best show as January Jones can attest.

julianne mooreJulianne Moore serving up feathered and sequin perfection in Givenchy Couture. There was cheering at this red carpet moment.

Uzo AdubaAnother big style win for Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba in a column of silver Randi Rahm goodness.

Maura tierneyTaking a brief break from all over silver with Maura Tierney in a chain mail style wine color frock and this is one of several looks from the night with a 70s inspired edge.

Emma stoneAnd now for something completely different and Emma Stone gets added to my “huh, jumpsuits can be pretty fantastic list” with this stunner from Lanvin. The bow that turns into a train should be too much but it works.

Dakota JohnsonMore metallic decadence and former Ben and Kate star Dakota Johnson dazzles in Chanel Couture.

ellie kemperEllie Kemper is a beaded beauty in this exquisite Naeem Khan dress. Bonus red lipstick points are awarded.

Stay tuned for more Golden Globe red carpet reactions.

Out of the Box: Look of the Week

6 Jun

Red carpet events, polo, new summer shows and magazine editorials all make up this edition of “Out of the Box.”

Aaron PaulLast weekend a whole host of stars attended the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic and this means it’s time for sunglasses and super cute dresses. Olivia Munn is radiant in white lace Lover (not pictured, but Munn also had the most amazing Devi Kroell wooden clutch), as is Busy Philipps. Both Lupita Nyong’o and Dakota Johnson work brimmed hats with black/white patterned frocks and Julianne Moore does the almost impossible and makes a jumpsuit appealing (by Rosie Assoulin, who also designed this Keri Russell dress). Only model Behati Prinsloo underwhelms in beige. Aaron Paul holds court in the center looking very dapper in a summer suit.

Lucy LiuSwitching things up with Lucy Liu in this gorgeous strapless Carolina Herrera gown at the 2014 Huading Film Awards. The gold geometric print is eye-catching starting small and intricate on the bodice, getting larger further down the skirt. It is a silhouette that works incredibly well on Liu and it is a dramatic change from the looser fitting shift dresses she tends to wears on Elementary.

Halt and Catch FireHalt and Catch Fire premiered this week and I’m starting to think Girls/OITNB costume designer Jenn Rogien was right when she said at the recent Vulture festival that you end up dressing the year you were born, as recently I’ve been drawn to early ’80s style from The Americans and now Halt and Catch Fire which is set in 1983.

Mackenzie Davis plays Cameron and her red sweater is making a mark on my already extensive TV knitwear list and short hair looks amazing on Davis. She’s got an Agyness Deyn thing going on. Scoot McNairy is working the sadness beard like no other and Lee Pace is doing well with the mysterious/handsome all about his eyebrows look. Let’s hope this show can build on what I thought was a promising, but not quite fulfilled pilot (so like most pilots really).

Brie Larson and Shailene WoodleyThis shot of Brie Larson and Shailene Woodley comes from their New York magazine cover story this week and this shoot is giving off all the Simon & Garfunkel “Bookends” vibess (and this automatically makes me think of Almost Famous). Getting prepared to heave cry when The Fault in Our Stars comes out. Will be drinking plenty of water on that day if the book/trailer are anything to go by.
